Re: Offensive Line
That's fair. I'm certainly not expecting to see an OL built like Georgia or some of the other SEC schools where they are as big or bigger than most NFL lines. 300 lbs is a big OL in our system and that's fine. We've recruited more of those HS kids who are 6'5" and already 275 or 280 than we used to get. Seems reasonable for those guys to gain up to 295 or 300 over the first couple of years. Overall, I really don't see OL as having been a problem but having some big bodies in the rotation would help in the red zone and short yardage. My S&C comment is more general in terms of injuries (which will happen regardless but could be reduced - hopefully). It is more of a general feel and when I think of individual players (for example of defense) it certainly doesn't seem to stand out as a factor. That's why I gave a disclaimer up front. I would love to hear comments from someone who actually knows more specifics about how things are working. Honestly, I just haven't heard much talk about S&C lately.

Re: Offensive Line
I think the OL issues likely arise from the fact that in our four losses this year, we seemed to have lost the battle in the trenches. Is it a question of the OL personnel this year, or the fact the opposition that beat us had better personnel on the DL, or is it scheme? It may be unfair to judge our OL based on one year. Statistically, I believe our sacks were actually down this year. We certainly ran for fewer yards but some of that is a factor of the increase in the passing attempts. We also averaged a full yard less per rushing attempt than last year. Is that the OL , or the running backs, or improved defenses we faced this year?

Re: Offensive Line
The last three games of the season concern me as to the o line , three including the post season. Is it technique, conditioning ? I don't know. But we got beat up front.

Re: Offensive Line
Not making excuses but pointing out what could be the difference. Helms played the last three games with a torn MCL. I’m not sure how that could affect the whole line but it can’t be ideal.

Like links in a chain , had an impact no doubt. Also speaks to a lack of depth , playing him as your best at the position even though he was injured. We have recruited hard at O Line , soon we will find out if we have recruited well.

Re: Offensive Line
I think that it is a bit of depth, but more of a wish to preserve RS. If Helms couldn’t go, I don’t think that we would have played him. And if he couldn’t have gone, then you could probably slide Hunter back to guard and played Everett at Center with Luke Smith and Williams backing up both. But then you burn a Red Shirt on both Everett and Williams.
