After all the years of waiting and all the speculation on how meaningful a win over UNC would be, how many times this year did you hear an announcer say "this is the team that beat UNC and South Carolina both in 2019." Outside of our state, it really didn't buy us much. Oh, don't get me wrong....I absolutely LOVED those wins! Just saying I think we obsess a little too much.

True. But what has the conference championship bought us? Again, I'm not in any way downplaying conference championshipsYosef84 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 11:44 amAfter all the years of waiting and all the speculation on how meaningful a win over UNC would be, how many times this year did you hear an announcer say "this is the team that beat UNC and South Carolina both in 2019." Re: Beat UNC-CH or win the Conference title?
I'd say the whole package has brought us some really good recruits, repeated championships and a really good shot at more championships moving forward. Can't really separate the accomplishments. I'm sure they all contribute, but my point is simply that announcers certainly talk more about our conference championships and bowl wins than they do about those two ACC wins. Just an observation.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 1:09 pmTrue. But what has the conference championship bought us? If you beat Carolina, that and $6 will get you a McDonalds meal. Win the division and the championship and you will get metal.

Re: Beat UNC-CH or win the Conference title?
Beating Michigan was a big deal. We were FCS and they were a P5 team rated highly at beginning of season...M did not end up highly rated. Beating mediocre P5 team when we are now FBS is not going make a statement so to speak. If we beat a P5 team and they end up in Top 10 at end of season.
That is something to remember. Whether the Mothership and other sports networks remember and talk about it consistently as the M win. Who knows....let's do that and find out..

But who, outside of us, talk about them? I say next to no one.PhillyApp1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 1:48 pmAppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 1:21 pmWhat has beating UNC, SC and being close against Penn St. and Tennessee got us?WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 1:09 pmTrue. We are FBS.... the target is P5 wins to grow Yosef and season tickets
Sunbelt championship without P5 win is not enough to grow

I think beating UNC and USC and declaring #2 in the Carolinas is a lot more than a sunbelt G5 champ

So you would rather beat Carolina and our other P5 opponent versus a NY6 berth? Ok. We can agree to disagree.PhillyApp1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 2:14 pmI think beating UNC and USC and declaring #2 in the Carolinas is a lot more than a sunbelt G5 champ

Re: Beat UNC-CH or win the Conference title?
The P5 wins can help to fuel growth ONLY if they are in addition to the conference championship. Without the championship, they are just viewed as flukes and explained away. If we are a consistent SBC champ who then beats a P5, we have much more legitimacy.

If we don’t beat a P5, there won’t be NY6 invite.
Winning P5 grows App State
Beating Miami,Penn State, Wake, and Tennessee is better than Sunbelt champs
That is a lot of almost’s
Can’t we do both ??

Re: Beat UNC-CH or win the Conference title?
Yep, we can and should do both. They are in no way mutually exclusive, which is exactly why I said earlier that I hate these topics. My only point is that we, as App fans, give the UNC games WAY too much hype. I get that they're important, and losing would hurt a lot, but the actual impact isn't what people seem to make it.PhillyApp1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 2:29 pmIf we don’t beat a P5, there won’t be NY6 invite.

Re: Beat UNC-CH or win the Conference title?
That is a moot point for this thread. If we don't beat the 2 P5 AND win the SBC title we don't go to a NY6 bowl. It's pointless to choose which games we'd rather win.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 2:18 pmSo you would rather beat Carolina and our other P5 opponent versus a NY6 berth? Ok.
