Not anymore. We were in that category a couple years ago. Georgia would like a word though.

Re: Returning production
"Returning production" probably does mean less than before the portal as you basically build a roster one year at a time now.I did find the article interesting though.

Re: Returning production
I realize I'm an eternal optimist or a "sunshine squad" type fan (in the opinion of some) but this metric, although disturbing at first glance, just doesn't mean much in terms of predicting 2023. In the first place, it's only half of the issue. It doesn't account for what is waiting in the wings. It also doesn't account for other factors like style of play, change in coaching personnel, and the expected (or possible) changes in the works. App relied more heavily on the passing game that we generally do, so losing QB1 is HUGE. We also lost some RB talent but we have a room full of RB talent and I don't see any drop at all. We also have a at least two...probably three viable QBs on the roster. WR room is loaded. On the defensive side, we have holes to replace but we have burned up the portal and are bringing Sloan home, so there is reason for some optimism there.
I would still like to see some OL studs brought in but I expect that to happen. I hope so at least. I think we have talent on the OL but need more depth and experience.
This off-season articles and rankings are really just click bait and fodder for message boards.

Re: Returning production
GW has a good team, but there is no way in hell they will beat us!!! We have better talent and better coaches. I'm sure the guys are pissed at this past season and they have something to prove this season. Bet we surprise a lot of people they season, even ones on this board. Go App!!!

Re: Returning production
Actually in 2019, we won by an average of 18 points per game not 30 points. I do realize you were just making a point, and a valid one. However, we weren't quite that dominant.311neers wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 2:58 pmA short 2 years ago we were in the driver seat, along with Cincy, Boise, SDSU, to be the Georgia of the G5 (just steamroll everyone by 30 no matter who it is)...now we dont have a guaranteed win on the schedule? Guess that's why they play the game. If we go .500 or less, fan base will lose it's mind, rightfully so. When you consider production lost and the fact we replaced a ton of coaches, since many have said coach turnover hurts big time, we should seriously expect about 5 wins. I expect preseason magazines to pick us mid tier in the SBC because of our name but for most others I could see close to last in the east.
I’m happy with staff changes we made though and believe we could exceed expectations. I admit I’ll be ecstatic if we somehow get 7 wins though. Anything more than 7 and I think Clark is a COY candidate. If he somehow wins more than 7 with all the turnover on staff and roster then that would be a very impressive season. We will see how it goes.
I guess I’m spoiled! I’ll admit it. I suspect it’s going to be tough for me to get through next year . As I look at the schedule I really only see one “for sure”win. (GWU) can’t even put ULM in the “for sure” category since it’s away. Everyone else looks ,at best, like a toss up. Schedule, loss of production and almost a completely new coaching staff make it hard for me to be optimistic.

It’s also important to understand that the 2019 defense was comprised of DeMarco Jackson, Shawn Jolly, Demetrius Taylor, Akeem Davis Gaither, and Shemar Jean Charles. All of which are in the NFL now.

Re: Returning production
Even though changes and lack of production returning say we should struggle I think coaching was a big problem so I feel better about it. We also needed to upgrade talent in some areas and I think we did. I don’t expect 8+ but I believe we should go 6-6 or 7-5, which is better than we should on paper. I could see some magazines picking us to only win 3-4 games.pop5app wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 6:59 amBlack Saturday wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 6:05 amyes, as spoiled fans we will have our mettle tested this year.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 1:21 amWhen you consider production lost and the fact we replaced a ton of coaches, since many have said coach turnover hurts big time, we should seriously expect about 5 wins. Re: Returning production
Speaking of returning, do we know if Harrington and Cobb are returning for 2023? Do we have an updated roster with all returning? All I can find still includes Brice, Cam, Hampton, Jones, etc

Re: Returning production
Cobb has zero eligibility left. Harrington may come back. He is working to get back based on video but nothing is definitive yet.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 3:44 pmSpeaking of returning, do we know if Harrington and Cobb are returning for 2023? Re: Returning production
Harrington is going to give it a try, fall camp should be the indicator if he can go, but Cobb has exhausted his eligibility and is done.

Re: Returning production
The updated roster will be up closer to the start of spring ball. Still some moving pieces.
As of right now, Harrington is still on the roster giving it a shot. It's a matter of how his body responds and how much pain he wants to endure in the future.

Pretty sure Hardy is gone. Would LOVE to have big Earle back, haven’t heard anything about him, so not sure if he’s back or not.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 9:38 amPlease feel free to correct any errors.

Re: Returning production
Hodges and Hardy are gone. Gibbs is coming back. Earle is I believe gone based on what I can glean from conversations. The only one in question of your three questionable is Harrington.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 9:38 amPlease feel free to correct any errors.
