My take on the game was, as follows:
1) the offense played OK; not great, but not bad either. If we score 28, then normally, I expect to win.
There were no turnovers -- another good stat. We've got to get off to better starts than that though.
2) the special teams played better than usual. No turnovers, & some really good runbacks. El Cit never ran back a big one; they did get a punt blocked, so still got some work to do.
3) And, then there's the defense. Don't know where to start. First, comparing this game to GaSo last year, our D absolutely took the Iggles to the woodshed. That's what I expected to see against El Cit. I think that our faults there come down to two things. First, Lott was out -- having a freshman DB start against such an offense was a baptism by fire. So, getting Lott back will be good. But, the second thing may be more important. Last year, we had a 3 - 4 against GaSo. Led by the big guy in the center. His name is escaping me, but he was a HUGE nose tackle transfer from Blinn College, 5'11", 310 lbs. & he graduated last year. He was dancing around in GaSo's backfield all game long. We did not have another such player last Saturday. The other big factor is that our young D guys just overpursued against El Cit. I think we will do better the more experience our guys get. Finally, DuPree showed more speed & quickness against our DBs -- I have not seen a team do that since Florida.
To make a long story short, El Cit just had our number last Saturday. Congrats to them. We'll get better.
Finally, all you fellers calling for Coach Moore's head need to grow up. That's a lame assed response to a good old-fashioned butt whoopin'. I did not like it; I'll bet the team did not like it either. I'll guarantee you Coach Moore & the other coaches did not like it. That was a good Citadel team we played. They'll give NC State all they want to see of the triple option.
Trust the team to improve. They will. And, the coaching staff will help them do it.
