Statue tributes are almost always done posthumously and they are very expensive. To date, there's not even a statue of Dean Smith anywhere on the UNC campus. Eventually, there will be.

Irwin Belk of Charlotte is the philanthropist ASU's development folks need to pursue to get the funds. His generosity has put bronze statues on 30 collegiate campuses all across the state (both public and private). He's responsible for the statues in ASU's new Information Commons. He may have funded the Touchdown Yosef statue near Newland Hall. He also funded The Ram statue at UNC and a ton of other statues at ECU, UNC-W, Wingate, Lenoir-Rhyne, Elon and you name it! :!:

Belk more recently funded the statues at the entrance to UNCC's Richardson Stadium.

He would seem to be the guy. I remember when my daughter was a student at Queens University of Charlotte, he donated a statue of a lion at the entrance to their new athletic complex on Tyvola Road. It is supposedly the world's largest standing lion sculpture.

I'm really excited about Oct. 4. As others have said, there is much to celebrate that day. It clearly will be a memorable day in the life App State athletics. Kudos to all who have made this happen.

Reach out to Ohio State fans and other Big 10 schools for fundraising. I'm sure they'd kick in a few bucks :)

I don't think anyone ever didn't want to honor Coach Moore. The rift was over whether it was time for him to go and was made worse by the mistakes both sides made publicly. I am thrilled that this is happening. Having said that I am still very bitter about Corey Lynchs comments and nothing short of an apology will be enough for me not to boo him if he has the guts to who up.

I think the "roadblock" is out of the way for it to happen. Maybe give this year to JM and retire #14 next year. Or retire #14 next year.

You really going to boo a guy who gave 5 years to APP, 3 time AA, Physics major, suffered at least a broken elbow and wrist on the field, made numerous game saving plays, never one problem (that I know of) during his 5 years? - Because he - Got caught with drugs? - Beat up his wife? - Convicted of DUI? - Charged with assault? - Breaking and Entering? - Theft? --- NO??? - OH, BECAUSE HE SAID SOMETHING YOU DIDN'T LIKE --- OK, that makes sense :?

That's what I was thinking, now I guess someone will have to inject a comment about Corey in every thread now since they can't hate on JM any more.

Sometimes I wonder how many members of this board have actually played college sports, especially an emotional game like football. I understand Corey's emotional comments and excuse them for what they are, his deep feelings for his coach and mentor. I hope most members of this board can appreciate Corey's devotion to his coach and put his comments in proper perspective. Welcome Home Coach Moore and Corey Lynch.

Glad to be able to celebrate Coach.
per accuweather.com, October 4 Boone weather is high of 61, rain with possible thunderstorm. Just saying...

This will be a good day! Go Apps!
With all due respect, that forecast 20+ days out is worthless. On the other hand, that could be the forecast for every day between now and Oct. 4 in our alma mater's High Country home. 8-)
I won't argue with that. Looking forward to 10/4. Go Apps!

I did not realize this. If that is the case, we certainly do not go out of our way to promote the field name. Maybe a re-naming can take place, after all, it used to be Conrad Stadium.

It probably depends on if the name was given as honor or it was "purchased" - my guess is Murphy made a contribution of some sort as most likely did Kidd Brewer families and usually those naming rights are good for a set period of time - In either case, I have no idea --- :?

I was having a conversation with one of my younger employees the other day about what is require to succeed and found myself quoting Coach Moore: "What Are You Willing To Give Up"?

Moore is an App State legend.
