Re: Second Half
Theirs is not necessarily a spread, they just run from the gun now and don't send a back in motion as often. They still often have the first option dive and much of their plays derive from that option.App91 wrote:You mean a run-heavy spread?HeffnerIV wrote:I'm referring to their offense.GreatAppSt wrote:What offense did we have to change to prepare for Heff?HeffnerIV wrote: As is said every year: You have to change everything you do for a week to prepare for that offense.

The same ULL team that got their butts handed to them by Louisiana Tech. Louisiana Tech lost last weekend to Northwestern State (LA).App91 wrote:GUS will not be SB champs. ULL and stAte are much better.. Shows how far we have to climb
GSU and Ark State are the class of the league.

Re: Second Half
They'll have nothing to say about it as far as GSU is concerned because they don't play either of them. They should basically coast to 6-0 before their last two vs. TX St and ULM.MAD Doctor wrote:Sun Belt Champs? ULL and Ark StAte may have something to say about that.

Re: Second Half
I'm not saying it because we lost to them. I said it before the game because of how they've played this season. They went to USA against a team many said might challenge for the league title and blew them out. They went toe to toe with two ACC teams while the rest of the league has been throwing up all over itself.t4pizza wrote:How comes everytime we lose people preach about how good the other team is? We need to face facts, we are 5-11 in the past 2 years and we have lost to a lot of bad teams in that span. At this point we are not a good team. We lose football games too often now and its not because our opponents are great teams, it is because we are not.EastHallApp wrote:Yep. That being said, we should look much bettef the next three weeks and we should win those games. But if we dont, I am sure that i will read about how great those other teams are.

Re: Second Half
Lots of people are saying we should just accept losing and looking bad while doing it. I do see promise for this team, but a lot of pseudo-optimism on here feels much more like desperation. We might be relevant again at some point in the future, but right now we're just a bad football team and I'm not going to try to paint it any other way.t4pizza wrote:How comes everytime we lose people preach about how good the other team is? And hey, we'll go to the same bowl they do.
Yep, after the Michigan game, Michigan was going to be undefeated headed into their showdown with Ohio State and possibly win the Big Ten.
Just because a teams spanks us doesn't mean that team gets a pass for superior status. This year GSU is a better team than APP, I don't know if they'll win our conference after 2 conference games against bottom feeders South Alabama and APP. This season we are young and inconsistent in our key positions at best.

Could part of that overmatched be from the type of strength training they have gotten for the last two years?App91 wrote:You're exactly right Andy.HeffnerIV wrote:Saint3333 wrote:In the next three weeks this team will start to execute and really surprise a lot of our fans that are down on this team tonight.
We aren't executing and continue to make mental mistakes, but I saw positives tonight to give me hope for the second half of the year.
If you can't see how close this team actually is, and you don't have the patience to wait for the team to develop, you dont know anything about football. As is said every year: You have to change everything you do for a week to prepare for that offense. We will get our first SunBelt win next week at home.
Freakin' relax.[/quote
Sorry Heff I just do not see it.
I see a team I'll prepared and over matched
GS is not a triple O team but the do run a lot, over powered us

Anyone who thought this years Michigan team is better than the one from 2007 is wrong and their opinions on football should be weighed as such.t4pizza wrote:How comes everytime we lose people preach about how good the other team is? I took two positives away from last nights shed job. Finally Satterfailed didnt say how great the defense played in a losing effort and he acknowledged that THEY need to COACH better. I think he finally hit the nail on the head.

Re: Second Half
USA at home should be a tight game (they have pretty good line play), Liberty a win, and Troy is down this year.
I predicted at 4 or 5 wins at the start of the season and I think it'll happen and we will be competitive with every team in November.
With what Scott and Co. inherited I believe they should get four years, we are 16 games into that 48 games. I know it is hard to be patient.

Re: Second Half
I just have a hard time accepting the excuse we are young every year. The past 3 years we have heard this. The reason we are getting beat is because we are not a good football team and the opposition is better. GSU was and is prepared for FBS while we are not. Jerry is part to blame for the OLINE as he didn't recruit and linemen for 2 years. Scott is responsible for the rest. This App team still looks like an FCS team. Granted a decent FCS team. GSU looks like an FBS team. They were faster at every position and had size at every position. They did their homework. It was almost like we were taking a test we didn't study for. Completely out coached and out played. Will we get better? I dunno. Not this year. I am willing to give Scott one more year to right the ship. If we still look like we do now at the end of next year we need to move on.
For the love of Pete can we recruit some size and not run up the middle anymore. Maybe throw down the field a bit more instead of throwing behind the line of scrimmage. We are slow and small compared to GSU.
From the way we look we win 2 games this year. Remember Liberty had UNC on the ropes for 3qtrs. I think we squeak by LU after that it gets foggy.

Re: Second Half
Saint3333, I think GSU has drawn the diagram to beat APP for every team we play this year. Pressure the QB, because our Oline can't stop them. Cover the slants. Pressure up front also slows the APP running game. Pressure every kick and punt. APP will make mistakes and deliver opportunity for the opposition.Saint3333 wrote:USA at home should be a tight game (they have pretty good line play), Liberty a win, and Troy is down this year.

My question is do we change what we do on offense (ie, add motion or move the pocket or use the TE more) or will we just charge forward hoping our team will grow in skill?
I feel we are who we are and growth is not in sight. BUT,I am hoping for light that future has brightness. Its just been several years of poor play, not just one.

Re: Second Half
Be careful to count Liberty as a win off hand...got to see them play against Bryant due to my son attending CFAW up there and checking out their engineering program. Talented offense with a QB that does not panic and can pick a defense apart and has a good arm. Defense likes to swarm. Besides the Coastal game, they have circled App as a huge game this year for recruiting and crowing. This I got from many fans and students when I wore my App gear around there.Saint3333 wrote:USA at home should be a tight game (they have pretty good line play), Liberty a win, and Troy is down this year.

Agreed. They basically run the triple option from the shotgun. I told a GSU fan last night that they should call it the "Triple Barrel."HeffnerIV wrote:Theirs is not necessarily a spread, they just run from the gun now and don't send a back in motion as often.
