I kept yelling it was a TD, but I did see him standing about 10 feet away. I'm sure it was the correct call, but I wanted more points....AppSt94 wrote:It was iffy to me but the line judge was standing ten feet away with a good view.

Re: Safety
We were at the game and the on replay on the big screen it looked like a TD but with no down the line shot nothing conclusive. We were chanting TD but to no avail.

Re: Safety
This would have not resulted in an untimed down. The safety stands and how/where you kickoff would be based on the start of the 2nd half not the previous action. You can only have an untimed down following an accepted penalty that requires a replay of the down.

What if Troy was to get the ball to begin the second half? Does the safety negate the coin toss?Appersrule wrote:This would have not resulted in an untimed down. Re: Safety
It does NOT negate the coin toss. The safety occurred in the 2nd quarter. The only thing that can carry over to the 2nd half is dead ball personal fouls and unsportsmanlike penalties that occur after the clock hits 0:00 to end the first half. For instance (coach cussing ref as they walk to the lockerroom). If this had happened with 0:00 on the clock. App gets 2 points, and the 2nd half starts with a normal kickoff that was based off the coin toss.

Re: Safety
So, essentially, App would have gotten the two points and that would be it. Troy would not have to punt/kickoff from the 20? Please don't think I'm being "smart," I honestly don't know.Appersrule wrote:It does NOT negate the coin toss. The safety occurred in the 2nd quarter. Re: Safety
Can't seem to find the NCAA ruling but I'd guess it's similar to the NFL.
(h) If a safety results from a foul during the last play of a half, the score counts. A safety kick is made if requested by the receivers. (page 8 on link)

This is copied straight from rule 3 of the NCAA rule bookmoonshine wrote:Can't seem to find the NCAA ruling but I'd guess it's similar to the NFL.

Extension of Periods
ARTICLE 3. a. A period shall be extended for an untimed down if one or
more of the following occurs during a down in which time expires (A.R.
3-2-3-I-VIII):
1. A penalty is accepted for a live-ball foul(s) (Exception: Rule 10-2-5-a).
The period is not extended if the foul is by the team in possession and
the statement of the penalty includes loss of down (A.R. 3-2-3-VIII).
2. There are offsetting fouls.
3. An official sounds his whistle inadvertently or otherwise incorrectly
signals the ball dead.
b. Additional untimed downs will be played until a down is free of the
circumstances in statements 1, 2 and 3 of Rule 3-2-3-a (above).
c. If a touchdown is scored during a down in which time expires, the period is
extended for the try (Exception: Rule 8-3-2-a).

Yes 2 points. That is the end in NCAA.

Re: Safety
Appersrule thanks. There are a few differences between NFL and NCAA and this is one of them it seems.Appersrule wrote:ASUMountaineer wrote:So, essentially, App would have gotten the two points and that would be it.
