He was a 3 star with a bunch of touchdown passes and he was actually Shaedons QB at Byrnes HS , his brother who is a sophomore? maybe junior in HS is already a 4 star. But you're right I think he'll be very good before his time is up at ODU

He is also a coach's son. I saw him play several times in HS and he was a very good QB but he played for a team that had a dominating OL and great receivers.

It looks like 247 gave him 4* but his composite score is a low 3*. Lower than Zeb Noland and Daniel David, fwiw.

I never want to get carried away with stats two games into a season. Like saying a guy leads the majors in batting average a week into the season. We should bring the best defense ODU has seen. Predictions later in the week but I expect to see a ferocious effort by our boys. I won't be stunned if we reel off 10 straight!

Yes it is A factor but certainly not the biggest one. Do you think kids in the VA tidewater have never heard of NC State before? Big teams don't want to play smaller schools on the road, but when they do they want to go somewhere that's relatively close, that their fans will buy out their allotment of tickets to, that will get an adequate amount of TV exposure, and that has a team good enough that will make them look good winning on the road.

UNCC and ODU are in a better conference with a better tv package than we have. We need Doug Gillan to do what I'm sure he's currently doing - pound the phones, get on planes, hit the golf courses, seek out opposing ADs and get deals done.
ACC teams are not playing at UNCC and ODU because they're just so gung-ho to play a game on the CW. If that were the reason, then why are State and Duke also visiting Troy and South Alabama?
EastHall is right, they are there for a combined recruiting trip. state gains no more exposure through playing ODU there than they would having a home game.

Almost forgot the obligatory response...

Seems like some people here are forgetting that our next opponent is Bye. I just hope our team is more focused than that. How about we make sure we beat Bye before we worry about ODU?

I know this sounds nerdy and I appreciate your humor, but we often misuse the word "bye." A bye only comes in a tournament. For example: Team A gets a bye into the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The correct term here is "open date" or "off day."

...so let's worry about open date!

Just heard the ODU coach on with Jack Arute on the college sports station on XM and he said the campus, players, alums, and the entire tidewater area are going bonkers about their game this week with NC State. I'm hoping they put all their energies into this weekend which could spell a let down next week against us.

Also, I know we're only 2 weeks into the season but they are sporting the nation's leading rusher.

With that said, at this point in the season, App's D will face 4 players in the top 20 in rushing yards.

#1 - Lawry (ODU)
#9 - Hill (WYO)
#15 - McGuire (ULL)
#17 - Breida (GS)

If the D continues to play as they did in Death Valley, I like their chances of keeping these guys in check.

ODU has done a good job building their young program, and I respect their two wins. Those wins, however, came against some fairly weak competition and ODU hasn't looked particularly impressive or dominating in either one. I'm sure they'll play well against NC State, but I expect a decisive win by Sate. Anything can happen though.

I like our matchup against ODU. I do think it will be a solid game but if App plays up to our ability, we should be just fine.

Our offense needs to get out of the chute fast, and build confidence early. Then, we'll be fine. There is no chance of a moral victory here- We need a WIN. We shouldn't strive to just compete with teams like this; we should strive to dominate them.

Absolutely agree! There is no "moral victory" remaining on our schedule. I'm not saying that every game is a slam dunk, but every game remaining is very winnable and we shouldn't be aiming for anything less than that.

ODU has a very bright future, but their quarterback has looked like a freshman QB so far. I don't think this is a game they'll win unless you guys just play a shit game.

If they do, it will be on the legs of Ray Lawry. That guy is a great RB.

I love what I'm hearing from the players and coaches concerning the Clemson game, they seem to be upset that they didn't play better, and they seem to believe that Clemson, while certainly a better team, wasn't 31 points better, and they seem to have a real chip on their shoulder and cant wait to play ODU. Instead of being down on themselves, they have a positive attitude going into the bye week. Its early in the season, and maybe ODU turns it around this week against State and shows us that we are in for a real battle, but so far, other than their running back, I haven't seen anything about their play that suggest they will beat us.

I can assure you nobody on the team or staff strives for anything other than W's. That is true whether we're playing Howard, Clemson, ODU, or Sun Belt teams.

I think ODU plays into our strength which is defending the run. If we can shut down their RB, and force their QB to make plays instead. We should be able to move the ball against their D which as others have said was/is one of the worst in FBS.

One of the best lines David Jackson has ever uttered is before the first Michigan game. "Appalachian has never boarded a bus to go lose a game."

I would like to see ODU upset the Pack this weekend and then our Mountaineers go in and dominate The Monarchs on 9/26! That would open the eyes of many who have a hard time understanding where our program is now compared to the ACC teams they have followed since childhood. Not as good as a head to head win but would make a statement with many nonetheless!!!

NCSU by 17.

It will be interesting to see if ODU can run on them and if ODU can slow down their run game.

NCSU will dominate with the rushing game. ODU will not be able to stop them. I think the Wuffies could hang 49 on the Monarchs.

We need to dominate them as well.
