They are very much in the hunt for the Access Bowl if they win out.

Right. Peach Bowl would require basically a miracle, but a top 25 ranking is completely realistic and would be an absolute walk-off grand slam result for this season.Yosefus wrote:Peach Bowl is a long shot with all else that would have to happen. How great is it though to even be having this conversation just a season and a half into FBS?
We have to win out. We should end close or maybe in the Top 25. Next year we will be strong contender for Peach Bowl bid.

Re: We Can Go to the Peach Bowl, and Here's How:
Not going to happen. An 11-1 record against weak OOC opponents not named Clemson. In a year where the Sun Belt did little to show the conference as a whole deserves that same fame as other G5 conferences. When you get into at large and committee selection situations, you've got to bring a lot to the table. Our resume on the field, and overall fan support in my opinion is not comparable to the types of schools they've selected in the past.
This is a fun thread though, and did get me to thinking about how real the App State turn up would be in ATL on NYE.
First year eligible, I'm OK with one of the four the Sun Belt gets. Prove to the national audience that we can handle the likes of ECU, or LA Tech, then those selection committees will have us on their radar. Easy fellas we just got here.

Since this is for fun... Take your pick on which you would most likely go to and estimate on how many we bring:
Cure Bowl on Saturday Dec. 19th vs. ECU
Go Daddy Bowl on Wednesday Dec. 23rd vs MAC Champion and top 20 Toledo
New Orleans Bowl Friday Dec. 18th vs Louisiana Tech

Who is the committee selecting from these options?:
10-3, unranked South Florida
10-3, unranked LA Tech
10-3, unranked Western Michigan
10-3, unranked San Diego State
11-1, #23 App State
This scenario is still in play. That's all I'm saying. If I've learned one thing watching sports, it's to expect the unexpected. Why not us?

Re: We Can Go to the Peach Bowl, and Here's How:
I will begin by saying, that I am crazy excited that in our first year of eligibility we are even considering this conversation! What an amazing job the football program has done to move up and put the team in this position. Well done! Assuming they don't roll over and lay an egg on the last half of the season, the whole way through sure makes it easy on all of us fans and alums to be proud Mountaineers!
Now about the Peach Bowl prospects, ECU did us no favors by playing their big games out of conference. If they had played as well as they did to beat a mediocre VaTech or managed a fumble away from beating a streaky good Florida, then the Navy or the Temple games go the other way. Unfortunately with UCONN, the Florida directionals, and Cincinnati left, they can't help our cause much. We really need the Houston/Temple/Memphis round robin to knock each other off and a big upset from someone else.
As for the prime choice of the 4 SunBelt bowls, purely selfishly I would prefer to attend the Cure Bowl in Orlando. However, I think the program is better served by the GoDaddy Bowl. It has a better chance at national recognition and a bigger TV audience. Plus the opportunity to finish 2015 with a win over another top 25 team would be HUGE going into 2016.
*Notice I said “another” top 25 team? That’s right, I think we can finish ranked in the AP and/or Coaches Poll.

I'll be at any of those as well as the Camellia. Anyone who follows App enough to post on this board should attend any of these games as well.YesAppCan wrote:Since this is for fun... Take your pick on which you would most likely go to and estimate on how many we bring:

Our best bet to have a good crowd would be the Cure Bowl though.

I would want to attend either Orlando, New Orleans or Montgomery, but I haven't looked into pricing or seriously discussed it with my wife yet. Orlando or NOLA could be a good family trip; if it's Montgomery, I'm going to be looking at trying to get a friend to come along.
Can't do Mobile due to the date.
BTW, New Orleans is on the 19th, not the 18th.

Re: We Can Go to the Peach Bowl, and Here's How:
So I was thinking and if we want this to still be a possibility first off we have to win out. Which I still think we're gonna do.
So IF that happens, the team we need to start rooting for is: SOUTH FLORIDA. The Bulls are currently 4-4 and 2-2 in the American. They are in the eastern part of the American conference. Temple currently leads that division with a spotless 4-0 conference mark. But they are yet to play South Florida and they also play Memphis. So, let's say South Florida wins out at 8-4 (6-2) that would include a win over Temple. So if Temple loses to South Florida and Memphis they also finish with a 6-2 record in the conference, but they wouldn't make the championship game because South Florida wins the head to head tiebreaker. So then South Florida would meet either Memphis or Houston in the conference championship. Well or maybe Navy too. So if South Florida can then win that, they are the only team from that conference eligible for the peach bowl and they will only have a 9-4 record. I have to think 11-1 App gets the nod over 9-4 USF even if they strung together impressive wins like that.
Then we would need Toledo to lose. They still have tough games vs NIU, @ BG, and vs WMU. Gonna go ahead and predict they lose one of these. Say they lose to WMU, that means WMU probably goes to the MAC championship and puts Toledo out of Peach Bowl conversations. WMU would probably play Bowling Green who is 6-2 (4-0) and running away with their division in the MAC. Does 11-2 Bowling Green (losses to Tennessee and Memphis) get the nod over 11-1 App (loss to Clemson)? There's a very real chance. But let's say Western Michigan wins the MAC at 10-3 (losses to Michigan State, Georgia Southern, Ohio State) there's not a chance in hell they get the bowl over us.
Guys, this is the IDEAL pool App needs to get the Peach Bowl since ONLY conference champs can get invited. Extremely unlikely but not impossible:
American: South Florida
C-USA: WEST winner (not Marshall or WKU)
MAC: Western Michigan
MWC: Just not Boise (Utah State or San Diego State)
Sun Belt: APPALACHIAN STATE (11-1)
Boom. From that pool we get picked I think. After yesterday's lackluster talk, a lot of you may not be in the mood to be talking about this. But I say keep the conversations going until it's impossible. If South Florida one more time I think all our chances are about done. But hey let's see what happens. When the Panthers were 3-8-1 last year I wasn't planning on buying tickets to a playoff game 1 month later.

Troy may be on the up and up too. They should stomp ULM next week and then they face Georgia Southern the week afterwards. How they fare against the Eagles should put into perspective if this week's game was a case of us off our game or Troy turning a corner.
The win is still a win and we are still bowl eligible and eyeing a post-season berth somewhere. Time to regroup and refocus on those trash talking Red Wolves who still remain our biggest threat.

Yep, South Florida is pretty much our only chance. Cincinnati is also possible even though they lost to Temple, they could win a 3-way tiebreaker. You are spot on on the other conerences as well. Keep the faith.

Re: We Can Go to the Peach Bowl, and Here's How:
We'll no a lot more late Thursday night...Right now it is at best a Rube Goldberg path to the Peach Bowl.
Any bowl will be nice since half of the MMB thought it was preposterous that legend Moore was ousted and Satterfield given the reigns and started out 1-5 last year with losses to A&T and Liberty on the resume and now is in position to win the conference.
This time of year nagging injuries, injuries, season ending injuries, fatigue start raising their ugly heads and put pressure on depth charts and begin meddling with the chemistry of teams. I'd pretty much wager that yesterday's game wouldn't have been as close had we played earlier in the season, nor would Arkansas State's game against Georgia State been as close. We have to dig deep down in our souls by Thursday.
Hope we didn't play our season against Gumroots.
Thursday's game is a toss up.
