Re: Does anybody feel just a little down?
...and but for one lousy quarter the Tigers might very well be 11-1 now instead of undefeated. Our 2 losses to #1 teams is not what we wanted but nothing to be ashamed of. To be beaten by "the best" means we ain't chopped liver!bigdaddyg wrote:I preface this by saying that this season has been awesome. We all anticipated a great season and no matter what happens over the last two games it has been fantastic. That being said I personally feel just a liiiitle bit down. I don't know what it is exactly. I think a little bit of me still misses the playoffs. Even though being in big boy football is WAAAAYYYY better I still miss the excitement of the win or go home tournament. I also have to admit that the Ark State loss stings. I can accept the Clemson loss (hell they might win the whole thing) but we all know that there is enough talent on this App team to have otherwise run the table. Oh well that's how it goes. The old saying is true, you can't win them all. There are a whole bunch of schools out there who would kill to be 9-2 (soon to be 10-2). Maybe I am greedy or have been really spoiled this season. My Panthers are 11-0 so my college and pro teams are a combined 20-2 heading into December. That is unbelievable but....
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: Does anybody feel just a little down?
Not down. Just GOLD! I think we have had an APPStanding season. Schedule was tough with that Sat / Thurs / SAT / Thurs stretch. I hope that's a lesson learned. I like where we are with the players, coaches and our AD. I really like our new AD. I've been around a lot of AD's in my life, and we've got a good one!
Can't wait for Saturday's last regular season game and then the bowl game. First year, fully in the FBS, could have been a nightmare, and APP has risen to the challenge. I think we ALL learned a lot this year across many fields of the game day experience. Will be interesting to see how the "lessons learned" get applied next year.
Always DAMN PROUD to be a MOUNTAINEER!

I'm always a little down as a season wraps up. The Ark State loss really hurt, but I've really enjoyed this season and I remind myself that we are WAY ahead of schedule! The "down" feeling won't hit hard until after our bowl game.

Re: Does anybody feel just a little down?
Kudos to Ark State, but this App State team has yet to reach its potential with a full FBS roster. I feel like App State could potentially be one of the country's perennial powerhouse G5 teams that mixes it up every year with the big boys. May be wishful thinking, but the culture that got us here seems to be alive and well in KBS.

Re: Does anybody feel just a little down?
It's a rainy and chilly and, if you're like me, you have a bit of a food hangover from Thanksgiving. Or a hangover hangover. Days like that, it's easy to feel a little blue about anything. And yeah, I will admit to a twinge of malaise or letdown or something, and I think that's for a variety of reasons. Expectations were sky high. Partly because of that, we haven't had an incredibly exciting, feel-good win in a while. We viewed every game but Clemson as an expected win, so if we lost or even let the other team keep it close, it's hard to walk away feeling like a champion.
I think this will change over time and the wins... and losses... will mean more. We're still getting to know the teams in our conference, and it takes a while to develop rivalries and such. I will say that the games against Arkansas State, Troy, and others will mean even more next season. I mean, I never would have thought, back in the day, that a time would come when I would have cared that much about playing Wofford, but it eventually became one of my favorite games of the year.
So I understand where you're coming from, but any minor "blah" I feel is on me. The players and coaches have done everything we could ask them to do, and I will immediately feel like an ingrate the moment the season's over, because (to quote the incredible poets that make up that hairband masterpiece known as Cinderella), "you don't know what you got til it's gone."

I don’t feel down, or the end of season blues as it were, what I do feel is anxious anticipation for the bowl bids. I am hyper excited at the chance of going to see this team play in a bowl!
“When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows.”

Re: Does anybody feel just a little down?
I have been a little down as well and couldn't figure out why. i was so hyped until the Arkansas State loss and haven't been able to get that high back. I am still extremely proud of the team and have purchased my bowl tickets for all four bowl games. I may be going alone as well but have been given permission by the family to miss Christmas Eve. They know how I love my Apps. For what its worth, some GS posters are saying they are not the same team now that lost to App, insinuating that they would beat us if we played again. Geez.

In fairness, many posters here said the same thing last year.AtlantaMountaineer wrote: For what its worth, some GS posters are saying they are not the same team now that lost to App, insinuating that they would beat us if we played again. Geez.
We can only wish they had the chance to prove themselves against A-State. Instead, they can stick with doing what they do best - blowing out lower-tier Sun Belt teams.

I see no reason why stAte and Stink have yet to play each other either this season or last.

Math, and because of the math we won't play stAte next year.hotrod2001 wrote:I see no reason why stAte and Stink have yet to play each other either this season or last.

Re: Does anybody feel just a little down?
Down? Heck no! We're 9-2 with a great chance to get to 10-2 this week. We're going to a bowl in our first season being eligible. If we win this week we will have finished in the top 3 in the Sun Belt our first two years with a combined record of 13-3. Our players have proven they can compete with just about anyone in FBS even though many were recruited to play in FCS. We've even been getting votes in polls for weeks now. This is one of the most exciting times in the history of Appalachian Football. I'm pumped!!!

... and this will be a damn shame b/c you can sense a rivalry brewing there... it's awesome when successful programs can trade shots on the field and I hope we keep them on the schedule next year!proasu89 wrote:Math, and because of the math we won't play stAte next year.hotrod2001 wrote:I see no reason why stAte and Stink have yet to play each other either this season or last.

Re: Does anybody feel just a little down?
If that was the case, we should have not played them this year and played NMSU and/or Texas State, two conference teams which we have not played. Ugh...hopefully once CCU comes one we can have a legit East and West division and settle the championship the old fashioned way.proasu89 wrote:Math, and because of the math we won't play stAte next year.hotrod2001 wrote:I see no reason why stAte and Stink have yet to play each other either this season or last.

No, he's correct. The conference teams on our schedule change every two years. Every team we played home this year we played away last year. Next year starts a new two year cycle. It makes sense, it's just that GS got exceptionally lucky.
