Re: Daniel David to transfer
I'm sure he won't be the last overall - that's just part of college football. Only other scholarship freshman QB is Easter, though, and his competition just got lighter (plus he could play other positions).

It wasn't about playing time, or anything to do with football. Sounds like he was homesick.

Re: Daniel David to transfer
Definitely saw a QB transferring soon, but maybe not DD. I was kind of expecting Caruso to, and he still might since at best he'll get 1 year of starting it looks like right now. DD could have gotten 2. Really hope we keep Zeb now, but according to 247 he's really starting to like the idea of Iowa State. Can't really blame him, if he gets a chance to play in one of the best conferences he might have to take it. If we keep Zeb though and just assume Lamb starts the next 2 years too Zeb could get 3 years as starter. So we'll see.
edit: and as far as DD goes, my guess is Mercer.

If it is not about playing time, my money is on UGA. Close to home, lots of friends there. Plus they need QB depth bad. Their recruiting has fell off the last several years - one of the reasons Richt was let go.

Re: Daniel David to transfer
When the season started and it became evident that TL was going to be the starter for probably another 3 seasons the thought crossed my mind- why would the other quarterbacks hang around with little to no shot at playing until maybe their senior season? I guess that comes with the territory when your program reaches new heights.

But that's why you take at least one QB every year I guess. They don't all pan out.
Exactly, look at what happened to UGA this year. One or two guys don't pan out, become ineligible, or transfer and you can find yourself without a viable option one season if you are not careful to stockpile.

You also never know when someone may come along who is better than your starter. No job comes with a guarantee.

Re: Daniel David to transfer
Daniel is dual threat and would fit nicely at Kennesaw State. They are building a good program quickly much like Mercer. Daniel would have to sit a year to go to UGA even if offered and the competition there would be every bit as strong as at App over the next couple of years and they are a pro-style offense.

Re: Daniel David to transfer
Considering the time of year that this has surfaced, one could imagine that the semester grades that will be posted on Monday will be motivators for some kids--not necessarily DD. Some will have to go JUCo due to transcript/GPA issues. I know very little about DD's study and time-management skills. If we assume he has a "C-" (C minus) average as of end-of-day on Monday, he's OK for now.JTApps1 wrote:It wasn't about playing time, or anything to do with football. Sounds like he was homesick.
Also, transferring to another FBS school in the middle of a redshirt year has to be messy at the very best. DD still only gets five years to play four. If he goes FBS, he still has to sit out a year. Worst case scenario is that he gets five years to play three. I'm sure the mid-year transfer has a loop-hole somewhere to ease the transition--but it would be messy.
Going FCS would be smooth as silk.
