Flynn got a nice increase in pay and is moving to a P5 conference. I see no clearing of house.

Cheaper, if he wants to spend 2-4 hours a day in his car commuting. If he wants to live as close to GT as he most likely did to APP he will pay a pretty penny.
A 2 Bd/2Ba 1,200 sq. ft. townhouse in Buckhead starts at $400,000 and tops out at $650,000. Move up the sq. footage and you move up the asking price at about $5,000 per10 sq. ft. min. Welcome to Hotlanta! Prestige is for sale!

Gillin cleaning house on Cobb staffers.
He's also throwing the proverbial baby out with the bathwater. Flynn was there before Cobb wasn't he or was he?
Seems as if you missed the part where he is going to GA tech with what is likely are large $$ increase.

Makes complete and total sense for a leader of such a large organization to change things up.
I didn't miss anything and don't blame him at all. I'm referencing the sum total of all that are leaving.

He'll be fine. He's a smart guy. Surely he figured all that out before he chose to leave and just maybe he won't choose to live in Burkhead. Heck, even Blowing Rock has dozens of properties that will top that in price.

I hate for us to lose him, but he made the right move in the interest of finances and his family. He'll be compensated handsomely, enough to make up for the high cost of living in metro Atlanta. There are no boonies within nearly 50 miles of Atlanta. It's all urban.

I got news for ya...cost of living is for sure higher in Boone than Atlanta. Housing, gas, food...all more expensive in Boone. Yeah, there are neighborhoods in Atlanta that are pricey, but its not hard to find ones in every price range. And a 45-50 mile commute here is a piece of cake compared to if you had to commute to Boone from that same distance.

Flynn leaving doesn't equate to clearing house. However since Gillin took over, the following jobs have all come open. All for various reasons but it still points to a larger picture, the writing was on the wall.

Assistant to the Chancellor for Athletics
Senior Associate Athletics Director/Development
Assistant Athletics Director/Ticket Operations
Assistant Athletics Director/Sports Information
Assistant Athletics Director/Internal Operations and Event Management
Assistant Athletics Director/Marketing & Promotions
Assistant Athletics Director/External Ops
Assistant Athletics Director/Broadcast Operations

Say what you want but that is alot of turnover.

Concerning the HR activity on campus, allow me to make a few brief comments. Today is June 10. We're a third of the way through the last month of ASU's 2015-16 fiscal year. Some employment contracts will end on June 30. Some will not be renewed for reasons of funding. Some will not be renewed for "cause." Planned retirements will phase in. Other retirements and unanticipated resignations will come about as a result of any number of reasons...poor health, family situations, work situations, etc.

There will be "normal" faculty and staff attrition based on what has been usual and customary at Appalachian over the last 10 years. We can also expect elevated attrition due to faculty/admin salary issues created by the state legislature and UNC-BOG over the last three to five years.

Then there will be attrition associated with administrative decisions and professional/personal differences. There are two old axioms of HR that come into play in every organization. It can be difficult to work with or for a person who didn't hire you. In like manner, it can be difficult to work with a person you didn't hire. Fireworks can result.

Just some of the many facts if life!

For sure, Boone is at or near the top in the state for cost of living. Housing costs are the star of the show. We get professionals moving here that really have to lower their expectations on what the housing dollar will buy relative to where they used to live.
