Miami will be a more difficult game than the Tennessee game. The VOLS were one dimensional and Miami will have a passing game. We have our work cut out for us.

Re: Realistic D performance against ODU
Miami will be a tough game but they struggled for a while before pulling away from FAU yesterday....including throwing two picks.
It's hard to know how to take that game. 28 point win (eventually) but it came against a team that only won 3 games last year (including a squeaker against ODU). That said, they seemed to play tough against some decent teams.
We need to cut out the penalties on D. We helped ODU sustain drives yesterday with some really bad penalties (roughing the QB, face-masking, unsportsmanlike after the play was dead). I imagine Satterfield will address that this week.

It would be nice if the penalty thing were addressed as it has been going on for a very long time.Yosef84 wrote:Miami will be a tough game but they struggled for a while before pulling away from FAU yesterday....including throwing two picks.

Re: Realistic D performance against ODU
I don't know if it will be more difficult than Tenn. Kayaa didn't have a good day throwing the ball and he isn't nearly as mobile as the two QBs that we have faced so far. They can run the ball but so can we. There defense is good. However, they are young and start three good Freshmen LBs. That being said, aside from FSU, I think our Oline will be the best unit that they will face this year and is a big step up from the lines that they faced in week 1 and 2.

I will say that we will need to wrap up against their RB and receivers. Too many missed arm tackles yesterday, looked real sloppy. Also, I am not as worried about Duck's side ironically but more about Mondo's. In two games now he is consistently getting beat and not getting his head around. He's relied on his athletic ability to break up passes after the ball is already in the receiver's hands. The play he had in the end zone against ODU yesterday will not happen against Miami's taller, more physical receivers.

Seems like the penalties have been much better over the past year but yesterday was terrible.bcoach wrote:It would be nice if the penalty thing were addressed as it has been going on for a very long time.Yosef84 wrote:Miami will be a tough game but they struggled for a while before pulling away from FAU yesterday....including throwing two picks.

Re: Realistic D performance against ODU
I will have to respectfully disagree. ODU's tackles/tight ends did a great job creating a pocket for their qb to step up into and run/pass. I would like to see stats on how many times our defensive line/linebackers touched him... I would wager that it was not that many times.mtnjax wrote:I don't know what game you were watching, but we were putting plenty of pressure on the QB. his elusiveness just made it harder to actually get to him. If we keep up with that pressure against less mobile QB's, we'll get home more often than not.

Re: Realistic D performance against ODU
Are you talking pressure or sacks because they are not mutually inclusive? Getting pressure is not always going to result in a sack of getting a hand on someone. Pressure disrupts the timing of a play and causes plays to break down. If the QB scrambles out of the pocket to avoid a sack then that is due to pressure.ASUGrad2014 wrote:I will have to respectfully disagree.
