Re: 2017 Schedule
Per today's WSJ, Gillin has confirmed serious scheduling discussions with ECU. No other details presently released. Everybody hang loose! It comes under "Odds and Ends" at the end of the Marcus Cox feature. See hotlink below. No indication given concerning year(s) under discussion.

Re: 2017 Schedule
If we could host Wake and ECU (Two teams I feel we can do much better against) in the same year, that would be huge. Looking at ECU schedule, I can't foresee them dropping any of their current OOC for 2017.asu66 wrote:Per today's WSJ, Gillin has confirmed serious scheduling discussions with ECU. Our fans love visiting Boone and the area benefits as well. Six home games is more important than signing up for another $$$ game.appgrad95&97 wrote:Why? How are we better off paying NCCU to play in front of 23,000 (or so) for a half on ESPN 3 than getting paid to play at Kentucky on the SEC Network?Saint3333 wrote:Disagree, six home games should be the first priority every year.
Start playing five home games and people donating may not see it as such of a good investment any longer.

Re: 2017 Schedule
We need to be a program that hosts six games each year. We don't need to prostitute ourselves, as we draw well enough to counter the $500K paycheck. Some GBS programs do not. We do. One million should be our floor.

If we ask really nicely, they may let us back in the SoCon.Saint3333 wrote:Our fans love visiting Boone and the area benefits as well. Looking at ECU's futures schedule, doesn't look like a series with them would start until 2021 at the earliest./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:If we could host Wake and ECU (Two teams I feel we can do much better against) in the same year, that would be huge. Actually SoCon/FCS teams are the ones that need to play two P5 money games, not quality G5 programs.appgrad95&97 wrote:If we ask really nicely, they may let us back in the SoCon.Saint3333 wrote:Our fans love visiting Boone and the area benefits as well. Be condescending if you'd like, but I gave you a reasonable answer.

Re: 2017 Schedule
Saint, I never meant to come across as condescending. I absolutely see how it looked that way and I apologize. My point is only that I wanted to move up in the very late 90s so that we could play bigger named opponents. I would rather play a middling P5 opponent (UVA, UK, Vandy, etc) on the road than an FCS opponent at home. To me that's how we build a name. But that's me and I never meant to condescend.Saint3333 wrote:Actually SoCon/FCS teams are the ones that need to play two P5 money games, not quality G5 programs.appgrad95&97 wrote:If we ask really nicely, they may let us back in the SoCon.Saint3333 wrote:Our fans love visiting Boone and the area benefits as well. Re: 2017 Schedule
We are better off because of the revenue we will pull from that game at home (it has been mentioned on here before that a home game is worth about $1 million to ASU). Plus we will have 22,000 APP fans at that game while we would have only 5 - 6,000 at the SEC game.appgrad95&97 wrote:Why? Re: 2017 Schedule
I dont think it's that much anymore. 15k fans at $30 each is only $450k, add students for free. I am sure there is other revenue for games, concessions, premium seating, but not double that. We keep going backwards in attendance and the 2 xtra away game may need to happen!

Re: 2017 Schedule
I'd be happy to play at places like UK or Vandy... as long as we get a return game. More P5s are starting to play H&H series with G5s rather than paying them for a home game anyway because the cost of those guarantee games has gotten so high.

Re: 2017 Schedule
Agree. I'd prefer to get those H&H with P5 teams that are within a reasonable driving distance for the majority of the alum / fan base. I know that does limit the pool of schools for us, but I think this is important when DG is selling that our fans will travel well.EastHallApp wrote:I'd be happy to play at places like UK or Vandy... as long as we get a return game. Re: 2017 Schedule
It is a shame that it has become all about money. My preference is to play H&H with P5. I know many people love going to the G5 and I respect that. I am not one. I am tired of the blow outs, it's just not fun to me. The first Michigan and Tenn were fun granted but there were too many others that were miserable to me. Again I respect those that enjoy them in fact my group does, but I don't. TV may be in the future for me on those away games. I can walk away from the TV but have never, and never will, leave a stadium before the game is over.

Would like to see in State P5s (Wake, State, UNC, Duke) but we all know that won't happen.

I get your hesitation, bcoach. We have had some major slip ups including VaTech, Michigan II, and Miami. However, if we can somehow , someway, get the likes of UNC, NC State, Virginia, Wake, Duke, Ga Tech, ECU, etc.... (you see where I am going with this) to play us, I am perfectly fine with that.

Wake already coming, might happen with Duke as well. But State and UNC would have to be drug to Boone by the checkbook.

Re: 2017 Schedule
Perhaps & perhaps not. I think Saturday opened some eyes wide to what Boone can offer. I wouldn't discount the possibilty of a unc or state or other attractive P5's coming to Boone so absolutely.Appersrule wrote:Wake already coming, might happen with Duke as well. I don't think it's any lack of game day experience that keeps State or UNC away.AppDawg wrote:Perhaps & perhaps not. I think Saturday opened some eyes wide to what Boone can offer.
