At some point we are gonna have an 8-4 season that might not include a spot in the CCG but will include a bowl game. Hope we are prepared for that very real possibility and can live on.
Prior to the new additions to our league I would have said that we should consider 8 wins as a rebuild but the competition has improved so I actually believe we could see 6-7 wins on a rebuild year. I just pray we don't dip down there but I'm sure it will happen one day. I hope some of our fans don't jump off the mountain if it happens. LOL

As for UNC talk, they had a fan on their board post comments from 247 and YC. We do have some fans have made crazy statements but one of theirs said they would beat us by 40 and I just don't see that happening. One said we are about as good as FAMU and that is just plain delusional. We are definitely better than them. UNC really SHOULD beat us but they should have in 2019 so we will see. I don't feel good after seeing their QB though. He throws a pretty good ball and Chase has never been great in these big time games. We will see.

As for the FAMU game, we will likely not see the same defense that we saw yesterday. I expect they were probably looking ahead and shaking off the rust.

Everyone see how the line has changed? We were -2.5 and now it is even with some thinking we win. When lines change like this it scares me. It will be interesting to see if it moves some more. Does anyone here gamble still when the line changes by multiple points over 48 hours?
I don’t think we were ever -2.5. We were +2.5 underdogs now it’s a pick ‘em. And does anyone really think their freshman qb is going to be as comfortable Saturday? Essentially what you are saying is FAMU and us have the same level defense. I don’t mean this snidely, but he’s gonna be a bit more rattled Saturday. Until he proves it against a legit FBS defense I’m not ready to be overly worried about him. He looked fantastic against FAMU. Let’s keep it in context
I meant to say +2.5 for us. We were indeed never favored.

I am judging by the way he throws. He has enough arm and seems to make pretty good decisions overall. Like I said above, we are better than FAMU but this guy looks better than your typical Sun Belt QB and I just hope we can disrupt him enough to cause him problems.

We have fans of both schools looking for every little thing that could give them an advantage. The bottom line is that we can't really judge yesterday too much. They were vanilla and probably were more focused on us because they knew that FAMU just did not have the horses to beat them. They may have fans on their 247 board that don't know the difference between App and FAMU but their coaches and players do. I don't care what their fans think because I know Mack respects us and he will have them sky high for our game. If they fall to 0-2 against us in the Mack Brown era then that would be a big time failure for him.

Perhaps our biggest question mark is in the secondary, especially the youth and depth at CB. Its imperative that we put Maye under more pressure than FAMU did last night. A QB is different when under pressure but he showed how talented he is last night. Doesn't mean he's a Heisman candidate but he certainly is capable of doing damage if given time.
Historically, if Dale Jones feels like the front seven can get to the QB, he will blitz all day long.
But, usually more blitzes in the second half. It seems like we give up a lot of early drives in our base set, then we start cranking up the complexity and get home more frequently as the game goes on.
We goes more base during their scripted plays and then make the adjustments.

The Whine and Cheese crowd can brag all they want. Our guys are ready too. They know what is at stake. Chase has much more experience and was a 4 star when he arrived at Clemson. As to his big game experience.. Remember, Chase saved Clemson's Natty when he brought Clemson from behind to beat Syracuse. He is also trying to get NFL attention. Maye is gonna get schooled. The Holes would have trouble with any of the top tier Belt teams. As long as we don't freeze up like we did against Miami in '16, we'll be ok.

Maybe i have rose colored glasses on but UNC did not look big. I was surprised after reading how great they have been recruiting. The offensive line looked small and slow.

Here is their depth chart. They aren’t listed so small. That’s a pretty good size OL.

57 - Cayden Baker (6-6, 315, So.)

Center
65 - Corey Gaynor (6-3, 305, Gr.)
68 - Brian Anderson (6-3, 300, Gr.)

If they are that big then FAMU has some studs to. They definitely did not look that size on the tube

Their backs are good and Maye will be better than Howell but their question, like us i believe right now, will be the defense.

we need to be recruiting their backup QB Criswell though. He's transferring after this season so he can start, but I'd love to have him. He'd light it up for us.

FAMU has some big OL. Just by looking at their roster some are listed 6'8 345, 6'7 285, 6'5 330, 6'5 290, 6'5 295, 6'5 315, and 6'5 335. They are not small by any standard.

Burger is better than Criswell.

go watch their tapes. Criswell is bigger, but can move well and has a cannon for an arm. Burger looks solid so far but I'll take those attributes and everyone around the UNC program saying he's insanely gifted. Not saying he's Heisman, but he'll go somewhere else and start for a good P5 team. We should be looking hard at him, imo.

I really don’t think we should do anything that might get Burger thinking of the portal.

Watching tape is a subjective opinion. Just ask Ericsaid. The coaches are really high on Burger. You don’t make a True Freshman 2A on your depth chart and then go get a second stringer from another team.

Not saying it's realistic but I like Criswell's upside and it would be nice to have a guy like that as our QB for several years.

I'm wondering if Jolly will shadow Downs since we seem to have both corners play boundary and field. That would necessitate a plan for when he motions. I also wonder if Downs is good enough to have to put our best cover guy on him. LBs need to be ready for tight ends. Longo likes to use them. I hope we start doing more of that too.

The coaches feel Burger is better than Criswell. The coaches think Burger has a chance to be the best pure QB that's ever worn the black and gold.

His arm talent is already better than Brice and Thomas. His decision making is light years ahead of any QB we've had as a true freshman. He obviously still has work to do, but barring an injury the staff will not be bringing in a guy to start. Not saying they won't go after Criswell, but if they do, they'll be very clear he's not the front runner.
