Correct. 1 game doesn't. But when 1 game with an alternate uniform, turns into another game wearing that jersey again at home with black pants or the alternate helmet a second game (we did this in prior years when the yellow uni's and Yosef helmet were introduced). An American flag block A for one game... Then add a "pink" accessory game this year (I presume Pink A on the helmet) - that leaves us with just 2 or 3 games with out of 6 with our "traditional" home uni's.S.Lewis15 wrote:One game doesn't ruin decades of tradition

I understand that and I would like them to wear black at home. Thing is I can't control what they wear but I can control what I wear.NewApp wrote:bcoach wrote:I for one don't care if the players wear white. I prefer they wear black at home but white is ok. Now for me this is where I put my foot down. I wear black home or away. Always have, always will.WVAPPeer wrote:OK - I love the all black unis however I don't understand this "attack" on wearing white - "it's not the school's colors" - well every home basketball game I have attended or watched I do believe the APPs were wearing white??? Just about every away football game I have attended APP wore white - if white is not one of the colors why don't we only were gold or black? ---
It's a tradition for the last many decades at all levels that the home team wears the darker colored jerseys and the visiting team wears their lighter colors.

Re: Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion
Actually we have no real tradition when it comes to uniforms. From what I can see the majority at least on this board do not want one either. I guess we just have to get used to it. I do wonder one thing though. Do we pay for all these changes or do we get them for free?AppDawg wrote:Correct. 1 game doesn't. I have thought the exact same thing. I'm sure Nike gives it all to us free as part of the sponsorship package. However, if given the option I think I would forgo the extra uniform And take a donation in the same amount to the Yosef Club to benefit all student Athletes....but that is just me.bcoach wrote:Actually we have no real tradition when it comes to uniforms. Re: Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion
Nike is not giving us the merchandise out of the kindness of their own hearts, and we have signed a contract with them to furnish us exclusively (how much, I can't remember, but I believe it's six figures per year -- maybe 200K???), so we're getting money. Anyway, what they're doing with these new designs is to not only market to our fans, but to high schools who need to purchase uniforms (around 5k a pop for most high schools), coaches gear, shoes and other things every football program in America needs.AppDawg wrote:I have thought the exact same thing. There surely has to be a local or corporate sponsor willing to help pay for t-shirts that can be handed out at the gate for people to wear.Gonzo wrote:I'm over it. I'll wear white to the ODU game. (throws up)

I'm sure, or a number of them. I'd be willing to wear a white shirt over my black one, until we fell behind./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:There surely has to be a local or corporate sponsor willing to help pay for t-shirts that can be handed out at the gate for people to wear.Gonzo wrote:I'm over it. Not that I'm superstitious, or anything.

Re: Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion
I'm not in on the contract or anything, but the obvious arrangement would seem to be: "I hand out t-shirts with my business' logo conspicuously on the shirt and pay the costs of producing them, you allow me to or distribute them at the game." I've never received a free shirt at an App game that didn't have a business on it somewhere. It's presumably at no costs to the University.NewApp wrote:They most certainly are not free. If we get shirts with nothing but a Block A on the front of a white shirt, we know the athletic department financed the shirts.

They played the trump card when they (presumably) contacted several star players and conscripted them to try and win us over. John Law tweeted me, told me he was all about the white out, and asked for my support.bcoach wrote:Please say it ain't true. You are not one to give in so easy.Gonzo wrote:I'm over it. Color is important to a lot of fans, staff, and players, but let's not lose sight of the most important things. Those being that the players play to the best of their abilities, stay focused, exhibit optimum sportsmanship, stay positive, and have all of us always having their backs.

In support, I've decided to wear my white App polo which has a white Block "A". It's the same one I got for 70% off because nobody wants a white App shirt. I finally have a politically correct use for it.

I would hope this would be a trump card of sorts for those of you whose panties are tightly bunched over your outfit choice for one Saturday.
Re: Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion
ODU releases a "style guide" before every season telling fans what to wear. IMO it's a cash grab to sell more merchandise but it's been pretty successful as far as I can tell. Our striped stadiums usually work well. We had a white out planned for a fri night game against Middle Tenn two seasons ago but thier coach refused the request to wear colored jerseys so our team wasn't in white. It'd be funny if Wilder ended up doing the same but I doubt he would unless he really felt like there was some competitive advantage lost. One fan protested by wearing nothing at all.

They need to get that guy a uniform. He broke several tackles on his way to a significant gain!
