If it has I haven’t seen it, but I do remember people saying when we beat A&M that we could finally move on from the Michigan win over 15 years ago, and this article still alludes to that one and NOT the most recent one. I do start to wonder if that game is at the point of hurting our reputation now that we’re in the medium pond because we’ll always be seen as the David.

There was a point in time where I felt that the Michigan win had been played out and that we should stop talking about it. However, I’ve changed my tune a recently because while other G5 and FCS teams have beaten P5 schools, no two victories have catapulted brands to the top like App beating Michigan and Boise taking down Oklahoma. The fact that win is still talked about after so many years and is considered the greatest upset of all time in college football, has put us at the top of the pyramid.

Just pointing out that those two wins (App’s and Boise’s) seem to be viewed on a different level as those that other teams have pulled off against P5 schools. While the fanbase would probably relish the wins over the Carolina’s as more important, neither has moved the needle of our brand (particularly on a National level) quite like the Michigan win.

Hard to believe the two most important wins for a G5 program over a P4/5 that catapulted teams was that game on January 1 and our game with Michigan on Sept 1 of that same year. Just 8 months apart to the day. The calendar year of 2007 is still one of, if not the most, crazy year of college football I can remember. ULM beat Alabama that year, 2 times the top ranked team lost to an unranked team, and so many times that we saw a team favored by more than 20 get beat. That was a wild year.

And both games were called by the same duo in Marty Brenneman and Charles Davis.

I remember Charles Davis but forgot Marty was the other one. I will never forget Charles Davis calling that game and talking about it being the first day on the air of the Big Ten Network. What a way to kick off a new network.

Ponce sounds jacked about his QBs and the OL. I like the “Super Big” Oline comment. I think Clark got tired of not being able to get a couple yards on 3rd/4th and short.

For context purposes only, the average size of our OL last year was 6’3.5 and 297lbs. This year’s line with my prospective starters averages 6’4” 307 lbs. That is an increase of 10 lbs per man across the line. However, it’s important to point out that a good bit of that difference is from the fact that Shrader is 10 lbs heavier than Murphy and Scroggs is 25 lbs heavier than Bucky. The other 3 are comparably similar in size.

My take on a lot of G5 offensive lines are that they tend to just look like slower fat guys. Generally speaking there isn’t a huge size difference in 6’3 300 and 6’5 320. Seems like the first ends up at FCS or G5 and the second at P5. We appear to have some of the second group. Must ultimately come down to technique or maybe it’s just a numbers game. I agree with the comment that perhaps coach (who was a lineman) got tired of not getting those yards when needed. You know he’d prefer to run it down the throat of most of our opponents and throw second. If that other thread with the proposed depth chart is close to accurate we have some beef.
