I believe somebody has been pee'ed on in this thread but not this peon. What's the phrase? Better to be pissed off than pissed on.

It makes a difference when youre daddy is the coach, and as a RB coach youre making as much money as the only Coordinator we had at the time.

And what he was making is greater than double what the average American makes.

Onion... Did you want Coach Moore to be fired?

I wanted him to retire. I wanted him to become what Erk Russel was to GSU. Unfortunately it seems he wants to dismantle the program before he leaves.

They were trying to save Jerry Moores reputation, instead of firing him publicly for losing control of the program, paying his son an insane amount of money, his sons own antics, and other failures on and off the field, such as not recruiting for 2 years, and his staff having arguments and not being able to even get a play called to the QB in the middle of the game.

Perhaps they should just list all of the reasons, and let JMs reputation absorb the impact, instead of the entire program, because these peeons that dont even follow App football are creating a stir without even knowing whats been going on.

His son should have been let go, but as to the salary, someone on here posted the staff's salaries and his wasn't out of line with the rest based on experience.
His son was the second highest paid coach on the staff, and he rose to that level very quickly, passing some other folks along the way.

Glenn: His son wasn't the second-highest paid coach on the staff and I'm surprised you would perpetuate that myth. Jones and Speir had significantly higher salaries. ASU's football salaries were/are largely based on length of service. That's where Chris Moore had an edge over guys like Elder, Holt and Glenn. Certainly Chris Moore's firing was justified, but to suggest Jerry Moore lined his son's pockets is wrong. By the way, all salaries and salary increases are approved by the athletic director.

He won't do that but he is not going to pretend to be happy either.

Why not good? That statement doesn't change anything that Cobb said. Coach didn't have to tell Cobb it was last season, he was told it would be his last season. Folks, there have been issues the past few seasons that needed to be addressed and it's becoming obvious to me that pretty much all of them were addressed at the end of last season including this season being Coach Moore's last. This has been hashed and rehashed already and will probably continue to be until we come to the realization that it has happened and we need to move on. Nothing we discuss here will cause Coach Moore to be brought back on as head coach. He also stated in that story that he dosen't won't to offend anybody, there aren't any big, big issues and he doesn't want to start any. I'd suggest some of us follow his lead.
You're right, it doesn't change anything Cobb said...But it sure makes someone a liar.

The list I saw showed only Jones with a higher salary. If it was wrong then I apologize. It was not my intention to misrepresent anything. It was my intention to declare that C. Moore was overpaid for his experience level and for his contribution to the team. Whoever approved it was wrong to let him rise up the ranks as quickly as he did.

How so? Moore said himself in the write-up that there was miscommunication. I think both of them are acurately disclosing what they took out of last years meeting. It actually happens pretty often that multiple parties can be part of the same conversation and for whatever reason come out with different conceptions of what was said or agreed to. I'm not holding either completely responsible or completely blameless in this situation.

What a great idea! Lets pay based on years here, instead of quality of coach!

Lets see, who does this benefit the most...

Got it. Coach's son! JM wouldnt fire him, nobody else wanted him, seems like a nice deal for him.

This is why you don't make these kinds of moves the morning after difficult playoff losses. You give it a couple of days and then discuss it.

Believe that it was time for Jerry Moore to step down if you want. But, remember that he's at least still a valuable asset to Appalachian State as a fundraiser and ambassador. It's in the school's best interest to keep him happy about the direction of the program. Maybe he'd never feel 100 percent comfortable letting go of the head coaching position. But, it's got to sting a little more coming the morning after.

Hopefully, time will heal a lot of these wounds. It usually does. Coach Moore CAN continue to be a very useful and positive asset for Appalachian State. He deserves to be honored for his many years of outstanding service and many accomplishments. He has also made his point that he wanted to coach another year and he feels like he was wronged, and if that's the message he wanted to put out there, then that's fine also.

However, NOW is the time for Jerry to let things die down, stop fueling the fire, and move on into the future.

Agree or disagree with the decision, it was made by the AD and Chancellor, which they have the full authority and responsibility to do. It's not going to be undone. As someone else said, ASU is bigger and more important than Peacock, Cobb or Moore. As a university and a football program we don't need for the only press we get to be a rehashing and re-beating of this single issue.

Let's get us a new football coach, get busy recruiting, and get on with the future of Mountaineer Football.

The missing piece had been hearing from Coach Moore. Now that we have, it's not going to get any better. Our fanbase is already split and I think this insures that split will remain.
ftr this confirms the 'turmoil' i thought we might be in for
Moore said that he didn’t agree that this past season would be his last season, and that he had expressed his desire to coach another year.

“I know I never told him this would be my last season,” Moore said.

He added: “I don’t won’t to offend anybody. There’s not any big, big issues. It was a communication thing between Charlie and I… and I don’t want to cause any issues now.”

And I'd say this confirms Coach Moore doesn't want there to be any turmoil.

Come on... Jerry says all that about not having an agreement, but then throws in the last line as a CYA. He is smart enough to know people who are mad about him being let go will run with this and create even more noise than they already are. He stirred the pot then gave himself a nice out at the end.

This about more than coaching one more year, and Jerry's comments are going to do nothing but hurt the program. What's done is done and it's time to move on.

Where was the outrage when Chris Moore and McClain "left to pursue other opportunities" last year?

You think that wasnt a firing?

Cobb and Peacock let it happen quietly in respect to Jerry Moore, the same way they tried to be respectful to JM this time, while doing their job, and replacing a coach that was not doing a great job. I dont know any coach that could have had the player, recruiting and staff issues JM had the past 3 years and not get canned.

"Pursue other opportunities" is corporate speak for fired. Everyone knows that. "WE" agreed implies a mutual acceptance that retirement was arranged. As for the rest you are right last year was the last straw and I fully agree that Coach may not have been capable of making the tough decisions to fire his son and other staff. This is an unfortunate thing.

I cant wait to see how well all of you so in support of Jerry being fired, like whatever new guy they bring in and goes 6-6 or worse. The program was not and is not in decline, our O line is to small for the playoffs, and no one can control the players all the time. Who would you like to see coach Mr. Onion? Just curious

Onions

For what its worth I 've got your back on this one. People choose to remember the body of work over 24 years...notthe last three where inattention and nepotism just about ruined the program.
Jerry needs to look in the mirror and decide if its all about him or the program helped build. We will see what his legacy is. A great coach with all the grace people expect or a bitter ex employee intent on ruining something.

Is it possible that Peacock and Cobb got tired of Jerry dictating to them especially after last year?
