NIL is going to wreck mid majorsAppStateNews wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 10:26 amThis one stings but it's not a surprise. Simply can't compete with NIL money others are offering. After spring, he wasn't penciled in as the sure fire starter with Cummings either.

Re: Spring Ball
What NIL and the transfer portal will really do is this, get toxic players out of the locker room. However, the larger programs will suffer the most through NIL, because one player will get more money than others and the other players will become jealous and the whole program will suffer. It really gives schools like App an advantage in the long run. App cannot compete with the NIL money of most schools, but App does not recruit players that are as interested in that. App has saved itself a lot of heartache over the years by recruiting players that do not have problems.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Thu Apr 20, 2023 11:34 amNIL is going to wreck mid majorsAppStateNews wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 10:26 amThis one stings but it's not a surprise. Re: Spring Ball
A lot of teams are trying to get under a scholarship threshold count. Plenty of portal options out there for us to go after this spring/summer.
Edit- right on cue. Landed an NC State portal OL. Good work!

Re: Spring Ball
I'm not sure there has been a big enough sample yet but at this point I think it evens out - we had a lot of mid-majors knock of P5 programs in football, we had 2 mid-majors in the Final 4. I agree with the comment that it will cause more problems for the Big boys. I read on one insider site that Caleb Love was making a minimum of $747K at unc in NIL and the word was Michigan outbid all others for him. I'm sure there has to be some players at UM that might not be so happy about that -

Re: Spring Ball
You hear players all the time (in the pros) say how happy they are for a fellow player who "got the bag". In my wildest imagination I can't believe that an average player (who thinks he's good) is genuinely happy for a guy getting like 10 times his salary (or more). In my wildest imagination I really can't see an 18-22 year old college athlete being genuinely happy that another 18-22 year old college athlete is getting $500k or more to play the same sport he's playing. Those regular guys are all busting their humps daily to win and compete and most are getting little to no NIL. Again, it's really hard to imagine genuine excitement. I foresee genuine resentment that will invade these big time locker rooms.

Re: Spring Ball
It may have been touched on already and I missed it, but I don’t see Texas A&M WR transfer Devin Price on the roster. Any news on what happened? I was excited to see him in Black & Gold.

Re: Spring Ball
Clark sounded excited on the app State podcast: qb1 may be a 3 way battle this fall; rb looking strong; overall young team.

Re: Spring Ball
I have heard he has been including Mchugh in his interviews/comments about the QB battle. I don’t think any of us think he’ll win but it’s good to see that our recruiting at that position has potentially improved over the last 2 seasons.

Re: Spring Ball
Clark also said the OL was 7-8 deep right now. He was also impressed with the skills of the defensive transfers. Almost every season we hear about the youth of the team. To me this means, look out for App! When does the countdown begin?

Re: Spring Ball
So...Did we sign an offensive lineman from NC State out of the portal?
Maybe I missed something. Any details?

Re: Spring Ball
We have one “committed” to transfer. He isn’t here until his grant paperwork is signed. That won’t happen until he shows up for school.

Re: Spring Ball
To reiterate and further confuse : the spring practices I caught bits and pieces of , McHugh looked really good. Can move and sling it .Decision making , I have no idea , but physically he is impressive.

Re: Spring Ball
Clark mentioned decision making was a struggle for all at times, he did mention that while Chase could get 8 yds on scramble these guys can get 40!

Re: Spring Ball
Inconsistency should be expected for all three. It’s a big adjustment for all three.

Just listened to the podcast with Coach Clark. He is now dead to me.... converting fandom from the Reds to the Rays ...all I can think of is Benedict Arnold...
