Part of the giving answer is that after graduation many become supporters of other larger schools where they live. As an example I know of 3 APP grads who are season ticket holders and contributors of BB and FB at Virginia Tech. Another is season ticket holder at Clemson. There are many others at schools like State, unc etc.scatman77 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 02, 2025 1:18 pmTo DOTE you said and I quote: "The budget should be Bigger now, because the school has grown the student body, alumni base, etc etc. That has to do with population not who the AD is. Population drives Donations/Budgets."
We now have around 150,000+ alumni. The student body has grown which in turn has increased the alumni base. That much is true. Population drives Donations/Budgets and if this in fact is true then why does the Yosef Club just now in the past 2 years fully funded scholarships? Why doesn't even half of this alumni base (population) give to the Yosef Club? Budgetary reasons? I'm on a retiree fixed income and budget. Giving with a monthly draft is not stressful or painful.
150,000/2 = 75,000
75,000 x $20 x 12 months = $18,000,000
I would normally not respond to your drivel or DG character bashing but this time I'm not staying silent. As for "DG and the good ole boys got their way with Heather staying in charge" she was by far the best candidate and in fact I perceive her to be comparable to Dr. Peacock.

And therein lies the rub. My example is that both my children graduated from North Greenville University and my son played four years of baseball there. I contributed some monies but my main, consistent, and dedicated financial support went to the Yosef Club. I understand to a point supporting the local schools but to neglect your alma mater to me is just not rightbcoach wrote: ↑Sun Mar 02, 2025 2:01 pmPart of the giving answer is that after graduation many become supporters of other larger schools where they live. We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

while this will somewhat always be a challenge for us as a non-P4/flagship, I think this is generational also. My core group of buddies from college all went to school from ~07-~11 and every single one is an App only fan. Now, most of us have settled in Charlotte so App is the closest big brand of football available, but still.scatman77 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 02, 2025 2:53 pmAnd therein lies the rub. I hope and think you might be right. The App. brand has grown exponentially since 07. The changes in how media works should also help. I can watch any App. game I want to now. And I quite often chose to watch G5 games over the P4 headliner games.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 7:59 amwhile this will somewhat always be a challenge for us as a non-P4/flagship, I think this is generational also. It has gotten better , gradually .Most of my era had and maintain us, as the back up plan.Once I committed , I left all previous allegiance behind .It bothered me for years knowing that my buddies were sending , or spending money in Raleigh ,Knoxville and Chapel Hill .Don't care any longer...Be true to your school....

Do not disagree with the math… unfortunately, only about 7% of our Alumni base gives to the University in any amount. That number driven by iBackApp day.scatman77 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 02, 2025 1:18 pmTo DOTE you said and I quote: "The budget should be Bigger now, because the school has grown the student body, alumni base, etc etc. That has to do with population not who the AD is. The younger folks dont get what a big deal this is. It is really nice to be able to be a fan of App. Most of my years...you watched live or you didnt watch. That being said you may see more of the p4 fan bases shrink than g5s grow because less people are going to pay to watch Notre Dame Football and definitely NCState football. Next big recession is going to test how good all of this pay for sports viewing is working.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 12:33 pmI hope and think you might be right. Re: Roster/Staff Updates
It will be interesting to see the level of impact because I was thinking the same as you. This is a bad quarter economically but good economists predicted no matter what that the first part of this year would be bad. I want to see what the next 2 months look like to see if any signs it will get better later on. Hope that next big recession does not happen this year. I know one thing that if we end up in a war with all of our current debt that we will see massive inflation again and a big recession that will test your theory sooner rather than later.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 11:28 pmThe younger folks dont get what a big deal this is. Lance Ware joining East Carolina football staff -- now that's a smart move by the Pirates, they will pick up 2/3 recruits per year from the Western NC, Upstate SC area based on that hire.

Going to be easy to spot the posters that put individuals above the program this year huh?

The players he helps them get have to actually pan out for it to hurt us so we will see. Indeed. Sadly, we have people everywhere who put an individual above the program or themselves above their own country, etc.

Re: Roster/Staff Updates
I like Lance and appreciate everything he has done for App State as a player and coach, but last year we had 6 WNC guys on the roster that signed with us out of HS. I know he played a part in Hopper and likely some others, but it's not like we had WNC on lockdown the past few years. I don't mean this as a knock on Lance as WNC just doesn't produce enough talent to put too much of our focus on.

I think this staff will grab recruits from a broader geography going forward. Lance joining the purple pirates isn't going to sink our ship....see what I did there?
