Y’all are acting like he died. I’m sure he did a lot of great things in his over 20 years at App, probably had a big impact on a lot of young men. But I was replying to AppStateNews who said above that Jones was unwilling to make some changes in his philosophy, so he retired with full benefits. Being so stubborn you’d rather quit that take some criticism and change a little doesn’t sound like “Today I Give My All…” to me. It sounds like “I don’t want to change so I won’t.” Now he’s retired, a position I am envious of.
No, I did not say he was too stubborn or unwilling. He didn't believe those changes were needed. A difference of philosophies -- not being stubborn.
I would probably trust Dale before I'd trust Clark.
If I'm being honest, I think that the chanhes Clark wants are related to personnel and the way App runs its scheme which is changing. Dale probably wanted to the speedsters on the defense at DE and not the horses and Clark wants to get more traditional size there.
We will see who ended up being right in a year or 3.

If this is true, which you seem pretty trustworthy so I think it is, he needed to go. If he was so set in his ways as a coach that he wasn’t willing to make some changes for the benefit of the team, he doesn’t need to be coaching. Add on his poor use of Twitter, and I’m glad he’s gone. And he’s getting full state retirement benefits?? Yeah, I don’t feel bad for this guy. Later, Dale.
Wow. The man earned his retirement. I'm sure he is hurting over this too. The man literally dedicated half of his life to App St. Get a life
You act like he didn’t get paid for his work. According to AppStateNews above, he was literally too stubborn to keep his job.
Once again, that is not what I said and have already clarified. If you want to keep putting words in my mouth to fit your narrative, go ahead. But know you're wrong.
You didn't use the word stubborn, but how you described how it went down definitely comes across as stubborn. Quick Google search provided this definition
Stubborn: Having or showing dogged determination not to change one's attitude or position on something, especially in spite of good arguments or reasons to do so.
As you described, Jones was determined not to change his attitude or position on how to handle certain situations, and I believe the examples of good arguments or reasons to do so can be found plentiful on film.
I'm sure there are many other things Jones isn't stubborn about, but this comes across as a stubborn stance.
What if Jones' reasoning was better than Clark's? You know, since Jones was a legendary linebacker and has been a defensive coach for nearly 30 years?
You all trust Clark was offering the right solutions here yet will turn around and trash him as soon as you can about other decisions.
Which is it?

The scheme is not changing. Clark wants/need size and speed on the line. The personnel we had this past season was strength only. We had players recruited to play DT playing DE.
I think Jones not being renewed was a scape goat more than anything, but also think Jones and Nunn were a joint thing. Nunn was due to go. Players under Nunn did not get better at pass rushing.

Jones is a great LB coach and a genius at run fits -- nobody is denying that. But, he also struggled with his play calling. When the defense can't get off the field on 3rd and long as often as this past season, that's an issue. If we didn't have Jackson in 2021, I think we'd see the same issue. Too many times we had 3rd and 10 or more, and Jones called a zero blitz leaving everything wide open. It's possible (and likely) the LBs were probably on a peel blitz and they didn't peel, but if the same mistake happens over and over, it's on the coach.

Hyped that we signed a pretty defensive oriented class, even without a DC for 1 month now. That is impressive! Maybe the new DC will bring a few guys with him wherever he comes from.

Players. Not sure what coaching positions are still open, thought it was just OL and DC.

If it is who I am guessing that it is, I can see them bringing one. That’s it. But we don’t need a lot of players. We need reps for the ones that we got.

I know we had significant injuries at the position, but I felt like the LB group underperformed this season. We had too many easy open passes allowed over the middle due to missed assignments. That dump off pass from Maye to the RB that scored a TD on 3rd and long in the 4th quarter against UNC was a sign of things to come.

Another zero (presumably) peel blitz where the LBs didn't peel...

Really should have stopped right there - we had 5 outstanding LBs all of whom could have come back for another year - Demarco was drafted, Roof chose to transfer to Oklahoma, Harrington was hurt in the first half of the first game, never returned, Cobb missed half the season and Hampton didn't play the last month of the season - I would say it was close to amazing we were able to have experience like Doublin, Bird, Brown, and McLeod + Parker

Agreed..how many teams, besides Bama and Dawgs, losses 5 LBs and keeps on performing at a level of the 5 injured? Not many. We do not have that depth at LB. Not sure we ever have. The replacements gave their all and proud to call them Mountaineers. They were backups for a reason.

Bowls are winding down, is it possible our 2023 DC is still coaching?
That is possible - I have no idea and no info whatsoever - however I would say if this person is still coaching he doesn't hold the title of DC -
