Satt is a player's coach. I could see him having conflict with leaving and not being able to finish the season and letting his guys down. He still may, but that could be the holdup with Louisville. Of course, Satt is holding all the "Cards" per say. They need him more than he needs them. He has options. Louisville has already been turned down once and Satt is the top candidate now. Being turned down again will snowball like the Tennessee job search last year and the NC State basketball coach search that had them settling for Gottfired. The Rock wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 12:31 pmI think it’s pretty well known these days if you accept a new job, you aren’t coaching a bowl game.mikeyosef wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 12:21 pmMy guess is Satt has expressed an interested in finishing out the year here and Louisville is using these "let's make a deal' candidates as leverage to get him to commit today or tomorrow. He is in a good position and can use his comfort with the current situation to push them to wait. If they really want him they can wait a week. Satterfield pretty much acknowledged this when he said now the season is over, he will start exploring the opportunities out there.
In the same way Satterfield said he wouldn’t want to go to a school that didn’t let him finish the season out, the new employer wouldn’t want a candidate who chooses their “old” employer over their new one. Especially with the signing deadline where it is now. Louisville’s AD has already been pounding pavement trying to shore up their recruits. They want a coach in place ASAP to start moving forward.
I think a coach should stay and see their entire season through, including bowl games, but that isn’t how it works anymore, unfortunately.

Re: Today could be L-Day
My #1 choice obviously is for Satt to stay and lead us to more championships and higher rankings. But...
If Satt elects to leave - and with the way the early signing period is used, I'd rather Satt leave quickly and allow us to immediately and openly interview and pursue candidates. If we have a few candidates already in mind and can make a decision in a short time-frame, this could help us secure our recruiting class and retain any current coaches that the new hire wants to keep. If this was the Access Bowl, I'd think differently. But, in this situation it would benefit the program more if we're able to move quickly.

In a perfect world, I’m sure he would want to stay to coach the bowl game, but in reality, he is already behind the 8-ball. He has (hypothetically) a staff to assemble, and recruiting class to sort out, including replacing any who might back out. There is a lot to be done at a new school and every day counts

Satt's contract would forbid him from coaching in the bowl game should he take another job beforehand.
But also, contracts can be re-negotiated.

Cardinal Chronicle - "Louisville football coaching search: Vince Tyra reportedly set to meet with Matt Canada". "There is a new development on the U of L coaching search front."
https://www.cardchronicle.com/2018/12/3 ... att-Canada
You know, I have never seen or at least noticed the word "Reportedly" being used as much as I have in the last week or so.

Earlier in the week it was reported on here that UL fans were fuming at the prospect of hiring Satt, now that's all they want. Fickle fickle

Houston just got the ECU gig. I'm getting slightly concerned that in this late in the game, it might get slim pickings if Sat goes.

My guess is Sexton is a good chess player..... Hell, I bet Saban wouldn't even know where to find his utility bills or what a normal American pays in expenses to live a normal life. The Rock wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 12:22 pmSounds like it could be a giant chess match . Satterfield may be slow playing Louisville to gauge GA tech ‘s interest in him, and Louisville is leaking more potential candidates to put the screws to Satterfield.
I still don’t feel like he is the top 2-3 candidates in the Tech job, so is he willing to let the Louisville job slide and let the chips fall where they will?
Is it tech or stay at App?
Guess we will see (at least in part) later today

FYI -- Canada has said he will not get the job.appaneer1984 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 9:35 amThe Scoop is reporting that Matt Canada Offensive Coordinator for Maryland has emerged as a candidate for the UL job
Looks like GT could also get into the SATT frenzy. That would be a better job than Louisville.

Does Louisville want a man of high character? Or another Pitino or Petrino?

Re: Today could be L-Day
I don't like this type of uncertainty around our job. I'm use to knowing who our coach will be and them leaving to retire or getting fired. We haven't fired a coach in a long time (technically JM was not fired) so honestly if Satt stays this has to stop. This is becoming the new normal and is something we can only fix by paying more money. App does not pay very well and that's always going to be our problem until we start making more money.
I either want him to go or announce that we have agreed to making his buyout in the 3-5M range over the next 5 years or something to prevent this "will he or won't he go" and media articles of "Satterfield is reportedly a candidate for such and such job". I want him to either be all in 100% on App and stay or just go now. There needs to be a decision today and no more speculation.
Sexton became an issue the moment he was hired by Scott because he was going to push him for any P5 job to get that big money job. I feel Scott could get a better offer next year if he went undefeated and actually swept the SBC and beat some P5s but with how football can take crazy turns coaches jump when they get the chance and don't risk it. Good for him to get this payday but now our focus should be 100% on our next HC and supporting him the best way and being there for our players. Satt is a Louisville Cardinal now and I wish Scott well because he is an alumni unless he faces App and then I hope we beat him badly if he is on the other sideline.

National Signing Day is December 19th, Louisville will want to put their coach in place asap. Big deal for P5, not so much G5 who get the falloff.

I’ve resorted to the fact that he is leaving, this year or next, but him not being here for this Bowl game will be a tough one for me to swallow......

I'm so tired of this emotional roller coaster taking away from the excitement of winning the SBC Championship and our first ever bowl trip to the Big Easy, I'm just assuming Satt is gone and if he's not then I'll be pleasantly surprised. Mountaineers in mass on Bourbon St...it's gonna be awesome!!
