Re: Gamecock game thread?
If you are referring to me, my bad! Look Drink as HC is awesome. But if we are being honest about our team the HC is getting in the OCs way. I've been sitting on this for a few weeks but it looks like the HC is vetoing the OCs play calls and our offense is sputtering because of it. If me saying that upsets you that's on you.
This team is amazing and having an amazing season. At the beginning we were winning in spite of the defense and now the shoe is on the other foot. Our team is so dangerous for the simple fact we haven't put a complete game together yet and that's facts. 8-1 and back in control of the Belt. Georgia State up next, let's go 1-0 again!

He stunk it up against a defensive front that smothered top ranked Georgia and yet won. I for one was one that questioned this defense . But I’m now eating crow this was a big time win no matter what way you look at it.

i'm not upset at all dude. happy as hell actually. and also, Drink is the offensive coordinator...he calls all the offense unless..shawn clark is calling plays too? i know he's assistant hc and offensive line but pretty sure Drink is calling the offense
also, SC has a terrific SEC defensive front

Re: Gamecock game thread?
I know Drink is the OC, that's my point. The HC part of him seems to be CURRENTLY hindering his offensive play calling. Yes SC has a good/great front but he had them on the ropes in the first half and he took his foot of the gas in the second half. I imagine the officiating played into but this isn't the first time this has been an issue. I have all of the confidence in him as our HC moving forward but if pointing out a clear CURRENT deficiency is wrong I apologise to everyone. He is still a first year HC and it's a learning process, I am elated with how well he has done winning over the locker room and the team. He has built what is turning out to be a great staff, but their is room for improvement because we know what we can do, and we all know his track record as an OC. Again I am bouncing off the walls excited right now with the results tonight!ncman071 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 11:14 pmi'm not upset at all dude. happy as hell actually. and also, Drink is the offensive coordinator...he calls all the offense unless..shawn clark is calling plays too? i know he's assistant hc and offensive line but pretty sure Drink is calling the offense

I would be worried about the offensive production, but these were by far the best way pair of corners we will play this year. These guys are big and fast so I can understand why our receivers had trouble getting open.

We went up 20-9 with 7 minutes left in the 3rd. Our next 4 possessions we ran 11 plays for 20 yards and only attempted 1 pass. The 5th possession was our last so we werent putting the ball in the air backed up on our goal. I dont see how anyone can not see that as being way to conservative.

No question about it that we went too conservative way too early. Must be something about being an underdog and doing that because we have now all see Moore, Satt and Drink do the same thing in games against P5. We won despite that against Michigan, UNC and now USC, but we went conservative in all those games.

I see it as a damn if you damn if you don’t. If threw the ball all over the field and an interception or pick 6 happened we the fans would be screaming in the other direction.

Re: Gamecock game thread?
You have a point, but to me there is a fine line between playing smart and being overly conservative. Sometimes you have to trust your play makers to make the plays to ice the game. At the end of the day the strategy worked today and we have our second P5 win of the year which is huge. I am not advocating for needlessly airing the ball out but their are ways to put pressure on their defense and we have the tools to do it consistently. On to the next one!HighPointApp wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 11:52 pmI see it as a damn if you damn if you don’t. Caught some of the Gamecock radio show on the way out. They were/are beyond disgusted. The guys doing the show felt like we could be conservative in the 4th quarter because their team wasn’t going to do crap offensively. I think they had like 20 yards running all night.

Re: Gamecock game thread?
Drink is definitely too conservative when he gets a lead. We should have won by 2 TDs, at least. We are much better than South Carolina. I say we give the playcalling to Shawn Clark. Clark did very well with it in the bowl game last year. I also think either Zac is hurt or Drink does not have the same confidence in him.

Re: Gamecock game thread?
Drink doesn't want Zac hurt or to have a turnover with a lead.
I will save my we went too conservative rant for the one we lose due to that in the future.

Um...that's the point. You dont wait until you lose. You fix mistakes while your winning so you dont lose.

Re: Gamecock game thread?
Agree that we should have and could have won bigger if we kept pushing when we had momentum. We almost choked. Very , very close at the end and once again that was due to taking the foot off the gas.
But , I'm super happy we won!!
We control our own destiny again!
