Yep. Many of us! Worst defensive schemes we have run in years.AppinVA wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 9:33 pmYou’re right. I am “many of you.”AppinATL wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 8:26 pmI'd love to see Roof stay. He did great with the defense this year and maybe he's at the age where settling down somewhere is more appealing than starting over somewhere else yet again. He's a quality guy and the players seem to respond to him. Many of you will call me crazy, but I would give some thought to offering him HC, moving Clark to OC and Gas to DC. That combo could give us stability for a few years.
Please take Roof with you Drink!

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
While I think it is great that the players (former and current) are endorsing Clark, and I will fully support him if he is the choice, these endorsements cannot be the ONLY reason he is hired. He has to be the most qualified, have a plan for filling a staff, etc. if he meets those criteria, then great. Sign the paperwork Monday. I just don’t want this to turn into a kinda deal that ends up being destructive if he isn’t chosen (which there is a BIG chance that could happen).
Obviously he’s a great choice, and I’m not nearly close enough to begin to say if he should be the guy. Therefore, I’ll just have to trust whatever the process is and hope.

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
Clark is a diehard App guy. He seemed to campaign hard for his guys and likely proved to be the glue to the players between them and Drink during last offseason.diehardapp18 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 9:38 pmPlayers are campaigning HARD for Clark on twitter tonight. I have to say the reaction from the players is kind of interesting. Not a single one has thanked Drink or said they would miss him or anything. Moreso talking about how much of a brotherhood they have, and guys are campaigning HARD for Clark. This could be quick and easy, trust the players and give them what they want. I said earlier on here that we needed to do a formal search, but after reading what these guys are saying tonight I'm not sure there is really any other choice.
I'd believe that even if the head coach was Roof, Clark would still be named offensive coordinator. Roof sort of reminds me a bit of Jerry Moore, or what I understood Jerry Moore to be, when he first arrived in Boone.
The mantra, regardless of whomever is chosen, must remain "doing it better than it's ever been done before". The keep the chip thing is ingenious as well because Drink used P5 slights to motivate guys while darting for literally the first offer he got.

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
I had a feeling Drink would be one and done when hired, especially if the team met the pre-season expectations...I would say not only met, but exceeded...thanks for the year coach and best of luck with you career.
If App hires another young up and coming coach and with a loaded team coming back, I'm afraid it could be same story this time next year.
There has to be quality older coaches out there that are tired of the "coaching carousel game" and would like settle in and finish their career in one place...to me that is who a mid-major program like App should be targeting, not a young up and comer who is just looking at App like a stepping stone...this is just my opinion, but in all honestly don't really have a clue how all of this stuff works.

Completely understand what you’re saying and I struggled with that wording. Obviously my intent is not to disparage the players or potential coaches, more just a turn of phrase. I’ll work to change the wording, please delete the quote and I’ll change it.

Sorry I thought this would be more of a parody ... my sources are somewhere between a good hotdog and lovely women. Go Apps! I’m just let down that’s all.

I knew what you meant. Just remember some Jerry Jones or whomever type stuff going down over the same phrase.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 9:49 pmCompletely understand what you’re saying and I struggled with that wording. Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
In all seriousness, I wouldn't be that put off by Roof. I know he had a hard time at Duke but he's been around winning programs since that time and has a lot of experience. Also unlikely he'd be chasing cash or taking off for the first P5 that called him asking for an interview.mountaineerman wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 9:50 pmSorry I thought this would be more of a parody ... my sources are somewhere between a good hotdog and lovely women. No formal search needed. We already have our coach. They all wouldn’t be like this if he wasn’t the one. He’s a leader and it is showing.diehardapp18 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 9:38 pmPlayers are campaigning HARD for Clark on twitter tonight. The players should absolutely have a voice.however we still need a formal search.asu7 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 10:20 pmNo formal search needed. We already have our coach. I posted this in a now deleted thread but Drink wasn't well liked by staff outside of the football team in the athletic department so its probably for the best.

We are 10 days away from signing day. Got to firm up recruits especially during a coaching change
