Re: Miami -7
I don’t think a comparison to 2016 means anything at all. One issue we had back then was having a pep rally, wishing for College Game Day in Boone (prior to the game). I just recall one sideline throw after another before we could ever adjust. Athlete wise no comparison. We have more speed, weapons and another level QB who can fit a throw into a window and can zip it. Who knows how it will go but our key will be to establish the run and control the clock but not be afraid to let our receivers make plays.

Miami is better than S. Carolina in '19. And let's be honest, we were VERY lucky to win that game.

To keep the playing well against the P5 theme going, I'd add in the Wake game in Boone...that game was ours and we let it slip away...

Re: Miami -7
Miami is better than SC was in 2019. That's not even debatable. I'm sure there are some that won't agree with this next part but I think we are very likely better than we were in 2019 also. We will see I guess. The only reason we needed "luck" to win against SC in 2019 was because Drink went conservative so early. We outplayed them statistically and they were making making desperation passes to try to come from behind. I don't really call that a "lucky" win.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 3:54 pmMiami is better than S. Carolina in '19. And let's be honest, we were VERY lucky to win that game.

Maybe not a lucky win..but a fortunate win. Edwards was wide open on last play. SC just did not make a play that should have been an easy play. You have to execute. And, yes, we deserved to win based upon stats.

Re: Miami -7
What I’m saying is that Miami’s defense, while loaded with athleticism, is not as good as SC’s defense was….. without looking at their stats, I think they were 3rd in the SEC in total defense…… I just watched Manny’s pre App State presser. He said, they had Bama in 14 3rd and 5 or better and Bama made 10 of them. There is little question that a lot has to go right for us to win. We are well suited to make that happen…. Will we? That’s why you play the game.

Re: Miami -7
At this point of the season, we are healthy as we will be probably at any time going forward - have more depth at key positions, a QB that can make the opposing defense defend the whole width and depth of the field, a fast and experienced defense. From what I could tell the ‘21 team with the super seniors may be a notch or so better than our 2019 arguably our best all time team. It’s time for APP get a marquee victory and Miami provides this opportunity. Not predicting a victory because we are out talented at most every position. However, I believe the time may be right for such of win if we are going to do it looking out on the horizon. A loss won’t raise any eyebrows or derail our season. I do expect to get some payback this season for each of our losses from last year, that’s not too much to ask, based on our talent this year and how our losses went down last year. That’s my 2 shots of moonshine.

I like our chances. Good start last week, got some good footage to scout the U. I feel like the amount of weapons on offense will give us a good shot. Miami will be on point and will not come out and lay down, it will be a hard tough and hopefully close game.

Re: Miami -7
My biggest worry is our soft zone on defense with their speed. If we give those big cushions like we always do they will eat us up all night long. Their offensive line looked problematic, now that may just be because it was BAMA, but I really think we can get some pressure on them with our defensive front, just have to watch for those screens and quick passes to the speedy running backs and receivers. I hope we make a better showing than we did the last time we played, we certainly have the team to do so.

I remember that game differently, SC was lucky Drink took his foot off the gas. The game should have been a two TD win.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 3:54 pmMiami is better than S. Carolina in '19. And let's be honest, we were VERY lucky to win that game.

I hope you are right but something about this game doesn’t feel right. It will be interesting to see if concert attendance turns out to bite us in the butt.

Re: Miami -7
Clark brought up in his presser yesterday, he mentioned Miami speed about 500 times. It is a concern for sure. He said they had to get a good plan around that. Sounded like the #1 priority. He didn't sound as confident as he did for ECU press conference.

That's a big "somehow". Need to not let him break edge containment. DE's and OLB's will need be very disciplined and hope Jackson and other ILB's can cover the middle.

Re: Miami -7
I agree completely. We need to make King beat us with his arm (I don't think he can). I think we need to have to run a spy (maybe Harrington), we're quick enough to close in space and strong enough to get off blocks. At that point, it comes down to discipline. We've got some Dogs on D and I love it. If we can keep contain on King, and let our secondary cover I like our chances.
I also think some folks on here are giving Miami playing at Hard Rock to much credit. Outside of their big games like Clemson, VT and ND a few years ago, that place doesn't usually rock like Williams Brice or Beaver Stadium in Happy Valley.
If we can come out and hit them in the mouth early, I think we will have a shot. If they score quick and we don't answer right away, it could be a long day.
