Re: POST GAME -
I think an underrated big play was the PI on Corey on 4th down that kept the TD drive alive. That play was not going to get the first down on its own.

OK guys - here is the play sequence that ended the first half - Here's your chance to say what you would do differently -
1. Time 2:14 - Ball on our own 14 - 1st-10 ---Pass to Malik for 7 yards
2. - Ball on 21 - 2nd and 3 --- Harrington rush for 5 yds - 1ST DOWN - CLOCKED STOPPED
3. - Ball on 26 - 1st and 10 --- Pass to Malik for 3 yds
4. - Ball on 29 - 2nd and 7 --- Pass to Malik for 2 yds
5. - Ball on 31 - 3rd and 5 --- Harrington run for 5 yds - IST DOWN - CLOCKED STOPPED - APP TIME OUT
6. 28 sec - Ball on 36 - 1st and 10 --- Brice runs for 8 yds to 44 yd line - APP TIME OUT
7. 22 sec - Ball on our own 44 - pass to Corey --- fumble --- 11 seconds left

Re: POST GAME -
Given where we started the drive and the clock, I think that you have to have a plan from the first snap. Now if one of those plays breaks for a 20 yarder, then maybe you reassess.

See armchair QB comments above, my wife can attest to these thoughts during the game.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 10:20 amOK guys - here is the play sequence that ended the first half - Here's your chance to say what you would do differently -
1. Time 2:14 - Ball on our own 14 - 1st-10 ---Pass to Malik for 7 yards - liked it
2. - Ball on 21 - 2nd and 3 --- Harrington rush for 5 yds - 1ST DOWN - CLOCKED STOPPED (only momentarily, 10 -15 seconds ran off
3. - Ball on 26 - 1st and 10 --- Pass to Malik for 3 yds - middle of the field, too short
4. - Ball on 29 - 2nd and 7 --- Pass to Malik for 2 yds - same as above
5. - Ball on 31 - 3rd and 5 --- Harrington run for 5 yds - IST DOWN - CLOCKED STOPPED - APP TIME OUT
6. 28 sec - Ball on 36 - 1st and 10 --- Brice runs for 8 yds to 44 yd line - APP TIME OUT (didn't know where the sticks were, slid feet first)
7. 22 sec - Ball on our own 44 - pass to Corey --- fumble --- 11 seconds left (too short of a pass to get into FG range, just run the ball if you aren't going to try)
Again going for it on 4th and 1 from the 45 the previous drive contradicts the thought process of playing conservative on the last drive.
If we had punted there the last sequence would have made more sense. Then the play calling seemed to introduce risk and be conservative, none of which put us into a position to score and led to a higher percentage play of turning it over. I think the players and coaches were disappointed with their effort the last two drives of the first half. They responded well (especially Sutton) in the second.
All this said love Clark and this team, so much potential to still do special things this year.

Personally, I agree that I wasn't crazy about a couple of the play calls but as it all developed Coach played out the time management perfectly ---

Yeah but the gushing and slobbering made me nauseous it was so over the top. I mean this is a team that has had success for exactly one covid season and what looks to be a good season this year. Last year and this year ESPN would have you believe they are a dynasty.asumba95 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 3:14 pmESPN tells their people to promote a lot of different things.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 11:24 pmAnother thing - the announcers - I like Anish and Luckinbill a lot and see them on Packer and Durham and they are very good and very knowledgeable but I watched the entire 2nd half with the sound off - I honestly believe ESPN has told their people to hype Coastal every chance they can ---

ESPN built a Mullet fairytale and sold and bought all of their own hype, fake, lofty stats built up by playing a bottom ranked schedule of garbage teams.fjblair wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 3:33 pmYeah but the gushing and slobbering made me nauseous it was so over the top. Appsolutely....my daughter said 2007(?) was last time students stormed the field after a playoff game against Richmond. I was more than ok with it, my students got some great pics with the players celebrating with them.Rick83 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 7:38 amUnder the circumstances, getting spanked the week before, 14th ranked team, conference championship implications, media-hyped CCU, tied game decided on field goal as time expired...the students rushing the field was not just OK but awesome. People watching all over the country saw the passion that our kids have for our program. Also, that's a memory those kids will hold onto for the rest of their App-fandom-life.

My mother (who is in her 90's) watched the game on TV last night and she too turned off the sound because the announcers seemed so biased toward Coastal. First time I have ever heard her comment on that as she usually doesn't listen to the announcers that much.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 11:24 pmAnother thing - the announcers - I like Anish and Luckinbill a lot and see them on Packer and Durham and they are very good and very knowledgeable but I watched the entire 2nd half with the sound off - I honestly believe ESPN has told their people to hype Coastal every chance they can ---

Re: POST GAME -
Another comment on the game/s - somewhat negative but more so strategically ---
Either let the ball hit in the endzone when we are receiving the kickoff or call a fair catch and take the ball at the 25. - but if the plan is to return the kick tell blockers they DON'T hold nor block in the back - if the guy is passed you let him go and get the next guy - Rarely have I seen the guy being held or blocked illegally being the guy who was gone to stop the return anyhow ---

Re: POST GAME -
Clock management is more difficult than people think. Seems simple. Even Saban mismanaged it sometime. Every week there will be an NFL coach that screws it up. It’s not just on the coach. Those players have to know when to get out-of-bounds, when to get to the line in proper spot in a hurry, when not to catch a ball so the clock will stop, and much more. Twice, our backs have went down near the goal line without scoring because they are well taught and knew the situation. It’s quite different being on that sideline. All fans want it to be perfect management, and think it so, but believe me, it is not. Been there.

Excellent point. Especially the last point. It is something that is practiced and planned but like wins and losses, stuff happens.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 8:37 pmClock management is more difficult than people think. Portions of all jobs are difficult. No one is saying it's easy. However glossing over it or attempting to silence discussion of a critical part of the game isn't a reasonable expectation on a fan message board.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 8:37 pmClock management is more difficult than people think.
