I stayed and listened to The Tennesse Waltz after all games I have attended at KBS.

I have Danced to the Tennessee Waltz many times after big wins at KBS and away games as well.

So that makes just two of us who appreciate it out of several hundred members of this message board. If you are not being sarcastic that is.

Anything played other than Tennessee Waltz and Mountain Music. The state board of education needs more money for geography education. If you’re so thrilled with these songs, as Lewis Grizzard said, “Delta is ready when you are”.
Luke opened his concert with Mountain Music, so I’m MM neutral, but don’t you blaspheme the Waltz.
AppinVa, I have no way of knowing whether you are being serious or sarcastic/facetious since i am not part of the tailgate click but those two songs have special meaning to me and they are universal to at least SOME generations of Mountaineers. Having read most of the posts so far, all of the proposals thus far have special meanings to individuals on this message board, but all in all, it would suit me just fine to hear our Band of Distinction play anything they choose.
That’s just my humble opinion based on a generational thing.
I was a Marching Mountaineer. I stay to the end and kneel for The Waltz. It means a lot to me.

That makes three of us if you are not being sarcastic.

Maybe the band can play Tennessee Waltz while the North Carolina Electric Membership Cooperatives show University of Tennessee football crowds in their ad.

If you don't like the TW, just stick your fingers in your ears or wherever you please. Different tastes and genres for different people.

Why would I be sarcastic? Whenever I get my trumpet out to play around, the solo is the second thing I play after Yikas. Maybe you’ve heard me play recently, because I guess that could be mistaken for sarcasm. My chops are GONE!

I don't believe anyone has answered my question - What is the connection to The Tennessee Waltz?

Tradition (like a lot of the other stuff that is done) Mountains. Big Band Music that some of the old folks liked in another generation (including mine) plus the fact that the Band of Distinction does a better job of it than most any other university marching bands do. A former colleague and former band director (Tim Hedrick ASU Class of '70 something) says the band likes playing it and playing it well.

That's all I know, plus it leaves me misty eyed is why I, myself like it. Always look forward to it

There is no significant connect. The band played it one time and fans liked it.

"The Tennessee Waltz." The Waltz, as it is known by members, was added as a standard of the band in the 1970s, when the fans began requesting the song be played after every game after it was played as part of a halftime show.

And I hope they continue to in perpetuity even though many would rather hear Led Zeppelin or something. Always need something for the older generation. Just bear with us. Besides it goes way further back than the 70's It was played at half time and/or after the games at least couple or more times in the '60's.
NC and TN have more in common than differences.

Dude what is wrong with you? He’s told you like 3 times he was in the band and he likes that song. Why are you trying to fight with him when he’s agreeing with YOUR position? This is why people go off on you. This right here. I’ve read this entire thread and you keep responding to appinva in your usual passive aggressive way as if you are disappointed he’s not arguing with you. Geez man do you even read what is being written to you or have you decided beforehand it’s the fight you crave? And yes as usual you are playing the victim.
