Re: Troy Trojans
If we can beat A&M...then anyone can beat us. As long as our defensive players and coaches continue to gel, we will be golden. Not many offenses, outside of the top 10, can keep up with ours... If the defense has a couple of good stops then the offense will do the rest.

Since it is Boone and Sanford Mall (back in the day anyway)...are we suggesting the bake sale offer some special brownies at premium prices?..Black Saturday wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 8:25 pmWhat a difference a real OC makes. We need to have some bake sales to give him a raise so he'll stay around another year.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 7:46 pmI think this team is just different. We have a crazy good offensive line, depth at receiver and tight end and obviously at running back. Have we ever had this amount of guys who can play? We can choose to run or pass. We seem to have righted the ship on defense and have decent depth on that side of the ball. I am not ready to predict a table run but if we remain focused it's a little scary how dominant we could be. Coach seems to be able to maintain that focus. Last Saturday won't mean much if we lay an egg against teams we should beat.

Re: Troy Trojans
Some of the scores on the prediction thread already interesting. Either the Troy offense is very good or there is still varying degrees of faith in our defense. Some apparently didn't believe what they saw against A&M and lean towards the first game. I want to believe that we made the proper adjustments and that we won't get diced up here on out.

Our defense and offense did one hell of a job playing defense against A&M.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 6:01 amSome of the scores on the prediction thread already interesting. Re: Troy Trojans
Think it is a combination of some let down that fans expect and Troy offense seems good, especially on the passing part (except for turnovers).

They probably looked at the first game and began to get excited then watched film from last week and said, "ah crap"!

Re: Troy Trojans
I predicted a relatively high scoring affair from Troy just because I think the defense played so well against A&M because of our game plan of keeping them off the field. I still think we win by 2 or more scores pretty easily though. I feel like we have an average defense and a super offense this year. Should make for some exciting games anyway. Watching that game, everything that could have gone right for us did. King missed some easy throws, we got penalties at the right times to keep some drives alive. Our defense had to have been helped by all that. I'm with you though, I don't think we'll get diced up like we did against UNC for the rest of the season though.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 6:01 amSome of the scores on the prediction thread already interesting. Troy Unis are Grey helmet and white jersey/pants. So assume we are all black? Or is it Yeller? We will find out this evening.

Re: Troy Trojans
I still feel our Defense has some hurdles to overcome. My take on the A&M game.... We didn't allow them to get back on the field (their offense). Our run game just kept getting enough yards to do the job and then bam...a pass play. Worked perfectly. I think that was more of a brilliant offensive game than a defensive game. UNC game we just played shootout with them. If our run game isn't hitting on much then it will be up to our defense to lay wood all game. We shall see if they are up to the challenge.

Re: Troy Trojans
Keep in mind, the defense was only on the field for 19 minutes. Clearly, the performance was a huge improvement but some of that had to do with the offensive gameplan. So, I wouldn't say we fixed all the issues from week 1. We also faced a much better QB in week 1 than we faced in week 2. Watson is no Maye but he is probably a much better passer than what we faced against A&M.

That is not exactly true.
IF we score TDs on both the endzone passes (one stepped out of bounds instead of WR keeping foot in bounds, the other bobbled ball as he landed) we have 14 more pts. Then our receiver drops a sure TD on 5 yrd line, instead we kick field goal, that would have been 4 more points. My point is, we were very close to scoring 35 pts instead of 17 pts at end of game. I am not saying they didn't do some stuff to help us but it was not a one-way street. These were three plays right at their goal line that would have immediately resulted in additional points.

Re: Troy Trojans
Seems like we could be missing Harrington on D again as well, so I'm not sure what to expect from the D if they have to be out there for long periods of time. Given Troy's turnovers and lack of running game (from RBs and QB) I hope they are aggressive.

Re: Troy Trojans
I want Harrington back but I don't think most of our fans realize how good McLeod is going to be. He stepped in and there was no drop in play. We are talking about a player who was named the SBC DEF POW. We truly have the best LB unit in the league with Hampton, Harrington, Sullivan, Brown, McLeod, Heilig, Cobb, Parker, Bird, Arnholt, and Doublin plus names not seen yet that the coaches love like Farrar, Gooch, and Moffit. Arnholt is going to be a star for us and Gooch can absolutely fly like Dexter Coakley could fly. I'm not saying he will be as good but from a speed standpoint he is suppose to be blazing fast.

Re: Troy Trojans
We definitely left some points on the board last Saturday and all I recall from A&M was the missed FG and maybe one pass they missed over the middle that could have gone for a score. If we chose to play the same basic ball control this Saturday why on earth could we not keep Troy off the field as well? I'm not minimizing them by any means but I see predictions of 30+ points. Anything can happen but other than some guys possibly missing at linebacker where is the issue?

Re: Troy Trojans
I believe your statement means you agree that 30+ seems most likely. To add to that point, we would have to regress in defense and offense, due to lack of focus, whatever, to not deliver a strong performance.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 2:06 pmWe definitely left some points on the board last Saturday and all I recall from A&M was the missed FG and maybe one pass they missed over the middle that could have gone for a score. Points. I don't agree one bit.
