They had a sign for this before you cross over to the NEZ building earlier this season.

Re: Internet service at KBS
Internet in KBS is hard because it has to run through the App technology office (forget official name). Until fairly recently, they didn't have the manpower to support even the student base. No way they can support an additional 20,000+ connections 6-8 times a year.
It's not just a matter of the cost of install, but also the cost of maintenance, repair, future upgrade, etc.
It's something on the radar for sure. But, I'd imagine it's low on the totem pole since it's a low/minimal ROI. Although, being able to tie in the network to concession delivery for a fee would be nice and game changing!

Re: Internet service at KBS
It is nice to watch a replay on ESPN 3 and that is also an option to here David Jackson, though there is no way to sync David to what you are watching since ESPN3 runs 45 seconds behind real life at best.
App State is part of eduroam based on the eduroam website but I have NEVER found it and I have not been able to pull it up in any manner. Eduroam is used for lots of places to allow academics visiting to have fast and easy access to a campus wifi and other places are joining in. Lots of parks in Greensboro have it (I assume for city staff) though I never think to try it when I visit those parks.

Yes, the absolute best thing about ESPN+ on home games is David Jackson "and again" Avery Hall. Love those guys ---

Re: Internet service at KBS
If only ESPN+ was 45 seconds AHEAD of real-time. I could put it in a buffer and sync to real-time and listen to David and Avery in real time. Or I could place lots of micro bets just before a play was run and make out like a bandit. Either would be OK. I don't think we have temporal mechanics at the needed level yet. Maybe in a few years.

We can spend tens of millions on CapEx projects like NEZ and the forthcoming East Stands project, but can't find a fraction of that to upgrade the horrific internet service in KBS.
And I imagine big donors don't notice because they have mesh wifi networks in the suites.

Wifi/service and LED gold lights have to be next, especially with us getting on TV more often on weeknights at home. Have to keep up with other facilities. Hold off on the $100M-$200M projects and improve what we have with “smaller” $3M upgrades here and there. The LED lights could help with recruiting as well and seems like a pretty simple upgrade compared to $200M east renovations.Bootsy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 7:42 pmWe can spend tens of millions on CapEx projects like NEZ and the forthcoming East Stands project, but can't find a fraction of that to upgrade the horrific internet service in KBS.

Re: Internet service at KBS
Folks, just a clarification, there is a difference between Wifi and Cell phone service (upon which most phones are accessing internet data). The cell phone carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc) are covering the cell tower infrastructure and the University would be responsible for local Wifi hotspots. As has been said, infrastructure for either is difficult to justify for 30k fans for 6-8 times per year. I would say many fans can flip to using wifi but not all phone users are savvy enough to expect they can/will do that. Therefore the wifi AND cell data capacity must be sufficient to cover the volume to provide a viable solution.
That being said, once the university converted over to using e-tickets, which I totally like, they have to have a feasible way for ALL ticket holders to gain access to their tickets upon entering the stadium. Therefore they have now taken responsibility to make sure it works.

Your clarification is appreciated. But the argument is still valid regardless of whether it's game day or not.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 9:19 amFolks, just a clarification, there is a difference between Wifi and Cell phone service (upon which most phones are accessing internet data). The cell service is terrible in Boone and has been for a while. Glacially-slow 5G service, even when the students aren't there.

That's part of what I like about Boone. We all knew it was at the end of the Earth when we chose it. Didn't phase me... complaining about wireless service in Boone is like complaining about the speed limit on your street or the poultry farm down the road, after you bought your house.Bootsy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 6:04 pmYour clarification is appreciated. I understand your point because I live in Banner Elk. Not that long ago, you could drive up NC 184 and only see a few homes on Beech Mountain. Now, homes are everywhere. It doesn't make me happy.wb247 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 6:57 pmThat's part of what I like about Boone. We all knew it was at the end of the Earth when we chose it. From the standpoint of our fanbase, adequate cell service in KBS is something folks want.

Service was good, but not great at Coastal last night. We were able to access the box score in game and watch a few highlights/replays.
