It is hard to imagine ANY G5 conference doing better from a TV money standpoint going forward. Seriously, the PAC # fell apart because there were no serious bidders. Disney/ESPN is OUT of cash. Fox's money is all in Big 10 and NFL. NBC has been a joke for a generation. And CBS is headed in that direction.

Dodd accomplished what he set out to do, get clicks. I can’t imagine Aresco is going to change course on his markets and high budget strategy for the AAC. I’d imagine ODU, GaSt and TXST would get the nod from the SBC before App based on the AAC’s previous selections.

As someone else stated, ECU is the only program our fans really want to play regularly from the AAC followed by maybe Navy and UNCC. I believe an ECU fan posted they spend over $6m in travel compared to around $4.5m for App. Without receiving a full payout the “old” AAC teams are earning, it doesn’t seem to make financial sense after exit/entry fees to essentially play 1 team our fan base is interested in when we can schedule them (and UNCC) for free in OOC. Also, what guarantee does App have that ECU won’t leave the AAC for “greener pastures” like they did to UNCC back in CUSA? Then App is stuck, with essentially no rivals compared to what we currently have built in the SBC, in a far flung conference of teams looking to leave and our student-athletes (remember them?) miss more class time traveling to play Tulsa, Temple and NT.

As much as we may all want it to happen and they’d be a great fit in the Sun bEast, I highly doubt we’ll see ECU leave the AAC for the SBC anytime soon. It would not make sense for the Pirates to pay the exit fee to a conference with a $100+m war chest they’ve accumulated from the vacating programs to move to a poorer SBC. Now once the AAC goes back to the negotiating table with the mouse and their payout drops significantly, as many are predicting, then maybe a move for ECU will be financially prudent. However, with the American’s growing assets, the conference can soften the blow of a lower tv payout for member institutions for a quite a while.

With all that said, I won’t call the SBC App’s forever home but without an imminent P2/4/5 invite, the current SB East is about as perfect a conference division our fans could’ve imagined 10 years ago sans ECU. We are with our peers and most historical rivals, all within driving distance for the majority of our fans, the way college football was meant to be!
Some of you are hilarious. Dodd didn’t stick one single sentence in there about the AAC reaching out to App for clicks. He’s reporting about what the AAC is doing, and he reported what he did.

Seems like on top of the TV money, you guys are forgetting the extra money the AAC has been receiving basically every year from the CFP for their NY6 invites. They also have been a multi-bid league in basketball, and have a final 4 participant entering this league this year. They also have 10’s of millions of dollars in reserves thanks to exit fees.

I trust Gillin to look at the figures and decide what’s best for ALL of App athletics. Some of you guys harp constantly about lack of investments in other sports, well joining the AAC couple *possibly* help that. I don’t love the idea of this new AAC, but it would be dumb to not consider it.

Are we going to be seeing more of our games on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in order to maximize TV revenue? Remember just a couple of years back when we had several games on the main ESPN and the duece? Now it's plus or mid week

I really like the current situation in the Sun Belt and App's place. If nothing changes, I won't be disappointed. But everything has a price and sometimes unexpected developments occur. I doubt many within the ACC or decision makers at Stanford, Cal, and SMU thought they would be joining together but circumstances developed where there were enough positives to a marriage that everyone jumped in even though the idea would have been laughable even a few weeks prior.

If the AAC comes calling with enough money to help build App's football program and other sports, has a roster of teams that will be good competition and/or promote good rivalries, and if questions about cost, travel, etc can be addressed, then I absolutely think App should consider it. It's probably not the automatic yes it would have been 5-10 years, but App would be derelict in their duties to not consider an offer if there are enough positives.

Having said that, I want to reiterate that I am not pining for it. If it happens it happens. I will enjoy App's current status and having the opportunity to attend road games where I can easily drive or take the train from Washington, DC area instead of scheduling a complicated flight.

I think you are going to see more ACC and SEC games on the ESPNPlus platform. Based on this beef with Spectrum. ESPN is about to radically change its idea/ways of making money on College Football.

You may see the big games still on ESPN but more and more games are going to move to ESPN+ to force their fans to buy ESPN+ or miss the game.

It will be interesting to see if Chapel Hill fans and their Walmart fans will pony up to see the Heels. None of their fans are used to having to look, little on, pay for access to being a fan.

Where I am excited to get to pay to see AppState...they are going to pissed to have to pay to see unc.

My guess is that in five years or so (whenever the contracts expire) we won't be on TV at all. 30 years ago you could get I-AA games on TV, now it's hard to find most playoff games. There really is only so much money out there. And if the NFL, NBA, Big 10, SEC and MLB keep getting what they are, there won't be much left.

I could see that but the Sun Belt has already shown they are willing to have games in the middle of the week. I wonder if we see that happen in order to keep our league on TV regularly all year around? Instead of the Sun Belt having mid-week games for just a few weeks in the year maybe we only have a few weeks in the year where we have games on a Saturday?
