5 conference winners kind of seem like a lot.
Big10 and SEC and maybe the Big 12 should be the only conferences taking up AutoBids. Sorry, ACC...too weak.
I'd rather see 3-4 autobids and 8-9 at-larges for the small guys to have a better chance!
If they really wanted it to be fair and keep all of the conferences intact they should have gone to a 16 team field where all of the Autonomous Five Division Champions received a bid and all of the Non-autonomous Five Conference Champions received a bid with the 16th spot automatically going to Notre Dame regardless of their record.
I believe that they really just want to keep the myth alive that the Group of Five cannot compete with the Power Five.

Let’s be honest, would we really want a couple G5 conf champs rated 40-60 be in CFP? I would not. You need to be in top 25 at least to deserve a spot in CFP.

ESPN is not paying 1.3 BILLION a year to have a playoff system with anything less than eight major college football brands. This is not just about the major conferences (P4) but the brands within them. ESPN wants Alabama not Arkansas, Ohio St. not Indiana. This system will be manipulated to ensure an ROI on that 1.3 billion.

So they are discussing the idea of the major conferences having multiple auto qualifiers. 4 sec, 4 big 10. So realistically 3 sec, 3 big 10, 2 acc, 2 big 12, 1 g5 Aq, then 3 at large that would probably go to p4 teams.
When they start bringing in non champion AQs from the p4 they aren't even hiding that they want g5 to piss off.

I've asked this question before. Who exactly was the person of governing body who decided that certain schools/conferences are P's or G's? I don't have a problem with the best however many teams they go with being in the playoff. That's part of the problem with the basketball tournament. There are always 10 or so automatic qualifiers who get spots simply from winning weak conference championships. The 19-12 mid power teams will always get in but the 15-17 team who somehow won the terrible conference championship will take a spot that a good 25-6 mid major deserved.
What is also ridiculous about the football playoffs is still including Notre Dame as a separate entity. They haven't won the championship in over 30 years yet still wield some magical power over any system. A 16 team playoff is bordering on crazy in my opinion. You will have teams playing 12 regular season games, a tough conference championship game then maybe 3 more post season games? Some good teams will be so beat up and weary come late December that the quality will suck.

This is the exact point. Notre Dame gets more credit for doing less than anyone. Hell, Bosie St. has won more BCS bowl games. BUT Notre Dame has a national fanbase, so they are good TV. College football is the only major sport actually controlled by a TV network. We could wind up with a Milwaukee-Tampa World Series, which would be terrible for ratings, ESPN can prevent something like that. The NCAA selection committee, which is terrible, is much more independent from CBS than the CFP committee is from ESPN.

Of course in theory, but in reality I would rather see teams that care if they win or loose, not Georgia blow out Florida State.
There are still people out there that believe Michigan should never have played Appalachian as well.

We’re in and show no worse than the Big-12 champs against Texas
Any press like that is great but no mention of needing to beat some team in SC. Just need to beat Liberty and run the table in the Belt. Guess the writer figures that other game is not big.

What I take out of that articles playoff prediction was that there was only 1 G5 team. That's it. We have to run the table and not trip up at all for one spot. This model keeps the money exactly where they wanted it.

They probably want to see the G5 get blitzed by the 5 seed so that they can ultimately do away with the token offering of the game.

We took the Texas transfer QB for this exact scenario. We’ve got them right where we want them.

I expect Appalachian would beat Texas. That would do more to get rid of the Group of Five Auto-bid than an App loss.

That’s pretty cool. I still think we’ll need to go unbeaten to have a chance, but also depends on what other G5 teams have accomplished as well.

Currently, the gaudy, undefeated record is more important then SOS for the G5. Look no further than Lib last year. I love our P5 games, but id rather be in the Playoffs and play a lesser P5 then the Clemson's and UGA's of the world. Yes, that attitude would have not given us a match-up against Michigan, but that was a VERY different time. Win the division, win the Conference, Bowl game/Playoff spot. These can all be accomplished with a weaker OC conf. schedule now that the Belt is so strong.
