Re: Fall Camp
Just a little reminder for everyone. I've linked the two threads from our scrimmages from last year. Interesting reads. From my playing days and later coaching time scrimmages overall are mainly for the fans who are starving for football. While the situational drills give the coaches film to study and are set up to test new plays, work on timing, and gather specific info on players even the "game condition" simulations, with their rules, are not a real measure and I really don't pay a whole lot of attention to them overall. One theme you will note from both of these threads is that the D was looking like it was our strongest unit when, as we all know, that was anything but the case once we got started and it was well past mid season before the light bulbs went off for most of the players and we got the right guys in the right positions. And while many said Cox looked good (Davidson was said to have looked even better) even the staff had no idea he was going to have the season he did considering he was listed as the OR back with Maglore behind Fergerson for the Montana game. One simply can't tell until you play an actual game against someone other than yourself.

Re: Fall Camp
Don't forget that a spread team is one dimensional rushing in camp-the QB isn't really a treat to run during these drills. It makes it a lot easier to key in on one player in the backfield, and it limits what kind of plays we can run from scrimmage, and what we can do when a play breaks down. I'll withhold judgement on the run game, oline, and dline until the first or even second game of the season.
Give 'em hell!

Georgia Southern made a living on 3.5 yards per carry.EastHallApp wrote:Both good points, but if my math is correct, the RBs who did play averaged just 3.5 yards per carry (124 yards on 35 attempts). Not very good.T-Dog wrote:I didn't see Cox in the stats and anytime a DL touches a QB, the play is blown dead. That screws with the averages.moehler wrote:its got to worry SS that they averaged less than 2 yds per rush, I don't know if its a case of the Dline playing great, the OL playing awful, or maybe a combination. Someone mention earlier that the offense doesn't really get going until late in the camp, I hope that's true, if we cant run any better than that, its going to be a long season.
Jalin Moore's numbers were impressive. Don't know who did what playing with/against 1st team/2nd team/etc., though.

Re: Fall Camp
I was a running back in my yout. My first football coach always said to the RBs, boys just give me 3 or 4 yard every time.

Re: Fall Camp
Sounds like the defense pretty much controlled today's scrimmage:

I did notice that Josh Boyd played in this one and put up very nice numbers in limited carries. Not sure whether any of that was with the 1st teamers, though. Jalin Moore led the team in rushes but only gained 3.5 ypc, so he might have been running with the 1's.

Re: Fall Camp
Tyson shouldn't be getting two sacks against our interior lineman unless he is just a beast.

Satt said in today's presser that they short played a lot of 1's today and switched up the order (1's vs 2's, 2's and 3's vs 1's) a lot so they could get a look at many of the 2's, 3's, and the young guys at every position in order to give them a chance to work on setting the 2 deep and who will make the travel squad.Saint3333 wrote:Tyson shouldn't be getting two sacks against our interior lineman unless he is just a beast.

Re: Fall Camp
For those who still have Rivals accounts, Brian has a nice wrap up interview with Scott on both the scrimmage and Fall camp. For those who had high hopes for Sumler will be disappointed. Seems his injury is still holding him back.
