Re: What is going on?
If we continue to win football games, money-rich programs will look at our coaches to help them win football games. That's life. It also means that coach likely left us in a better position than when he came on board. I'll take that every time.
Satt was responsible for a lot of the hires when he came back in Jan 2012 which rebuilt a decimated staff (7 asst coaches left). I trust in his judgement. He'll probably find a grad assistant from a big program. That's how he found Stepp.

Check your PM.firemoose wrote:At least this finally broke. I heard it was possible as soon as Morris was hired and then was told it was happening. Now everyone can know why I didn't press for a visitors list. Too many things were happening and I didn't want to bother anyone. Most of the targets are listed and I have in my personal notes most who came so if any offers go out I've got the info. I wish Coach Stepp nothing but the best and now it's time for us to go out and find a great new WR coach. Nature of the business.
Go APPS!

Re: What is going on?
Just a question for those more knowledgeable than I. Would AE be a good candidate?
Re: What is going on?
Even if he was he's not going to work for the kind of money that would be available.

I would think he would have to decide that his football playing days were over and I have no idea where he is in that process ---appstate77 wrote:Just a question for those more knowledgeable than I. Would AE be a good candidate?

I would like to see Satt go outside of App State to make this hire. Go get another young up and coming coach who will relate well to the players.mtnjax wrote:AE may not even wanna coach.
Satt needs to go after the best possible candidate and I'm not sure that is AE anyway

Sounds like the starting salary is $50k... So you're likely looking at Grad Assistants or maybe a HS Coach or D2 guy. Not a bad thing, just the reality of it.AppAttack wrote:Yes. Re: What is going on?
Just curious, where did you get that figure? I know that was Stepp's salary in the public database, but I'm guessing that was pre-FBS pay bump, and that we have more budgeted for his replacement.appgrad wrote:Sounds like the starting salary is $50k... Re: What is going on?
Yeah... Just basing it on the publicly available info. Would be very nice if the next guy was able to get more money after this year... Would broaden the pool of candidates!EastHallApp wrote:Just curious, where did you get that figure? Yeah an FBS recruiter who can fill in Stepps shoes should get more than 50k.Sounds like the starting salary is $50k... So you're likely looking at Grad Assistants or maybe a HS Coach or D2 guy. Not a bad thing, just the reality of it.

Re: What is going on?
Should - but all depends on what the salary bumps are/were. With the success of this season, would imagine SS is pushing for raises for all assistants.crossza wrote:Yeah an FBS recruiter who can fill in Stepps shoes should get more than 50k.Sounds like the starting salary is $50k... Re: What is going on?
Got to think Hans Batichon would get a look. Great college WR, assistant coach at high school/college level and he even has some special teams experience.

Re: What is going on?
Question, why do some people constantly suggest bringing back App State people?
Justin Stepp BECAME a Mountaineer over time with his contributions to the team. But he was a Furman/Clemson guy.
We need a high energy, youthful guy with recruiting moxie to come in and do what Stepp did for three years: relate to these young kids and get them excited about the future and playing WR for App State.
Let's not limit ourselves to just hiring former App State stars. Let's instead take the best person for the job and turn them into a Mountaineer!
