There was a serious error on the part of the officials Saturday on the opening kickoff.

The ball landed in the endzone, went untouched, and was blown dead. It has to be downed by the receiving team or must go out of bounds.

1. We should have been more observant and recovered the ball.
2. The official should have stood there until someone either recovered the kick or it was downed by F-Elon.

But certainly the ball was not dead as it was blown.

***No one was minding the store, Officials, F-Elon, and ASU special teams.

I believe that it is automatic touchback only in high school...B/C last year GSU or Wofford or someone in the SoCon had a touchdown scored on them b/c of a similar situation in the endzone!

I looked up the rule on the NCAA officiating rulebook. You are correct in that it is a live ball unless no player makes an attempt to secure the ball. So it seems that it is up to the official to determine a player's intent.
