Re: Bowl projection update
Though I never would've guessed it before the season, I'm actually starting to kind of hope for Montgomery. I'm assuming stAte will be in New Orleans, I can't make Mobile, and Orlando would likely mean losing to USA and facing a 6-6 team.
At this point I'm content to take the reasonable driving distance and likely beatable opponent and call it a day. Hopefully next year Orlando gets better TV coverage and moves up in the selection order for both the SBC and AAC.
I've even got a buddy who went to Ohio, maybe if that's the matchup I can talk him into meeting me down there.

Hopefully next year the Medal of Honor Bowl in Charleston will be an option.

Access Bowl or Bust! We beat either Tennessee or Miami and win our conference and we are in.Lowcountry App wrote:Hopefully next year the Medal of Honor Bowl in Charleston will be an option.

Re: Bowl projection update
Beating 1/2 won't get us to the Access bowl. Beating both and going undefeated just may. Compared to the MWC and others, our conference schedule is still pretty tame plus next year we probably lose stAte on our schedule.
And as much as I'd love to see us in the Access bowl one day, we haven't yet proven we can really hang with a top-tier P5 on any day other than 9/1/2007.
I mean, if we can't beat Tennessee and Miami (mid-tier P5's on the upswing) do we really want to face a top-tier P5 team with a month to prepare for us?

Re: Bowl projection update
If we beat Miami and go 11-1 we would have made it this year based on the others. We have a schedule next year that can allow us a shot at the access bowl, certainly not predicting it as we'll face our tougher OOC schedule in the history of our program and I think an improving SBC.

Re: Bowl projection update
I agree, next year's schedule gives App the foundation it needs to have a shot at an Access Bowl without having to post a perfect season. I think an 11-1 season next year with a win over either Miami or Tennessee gets App into the conversation at the very least.
The problem with getting into the Access Bowl is that a G5 team does not necessarily control its own fate. Let a Houston, or Memphis or Boise State go 11-1 or undefeated and I bet App State gets passed over.

Re: Bowl projection update
IF by some chance we knock off UT and the U and take care of the other two OOC opponents we will roll into conference play at 4-0 with two wins over P5's. We most certainly would be ranked in the top 20 and it would be hard to imagine getting dropped out even with a declining SOC. Of course ALL of this is pure speculation. At least we should have a decent enough schedule next year to at least start out in the discussion.

Re: Bowl projection update
If we go 11-1 next year, we'll be a strong candidate for the access bowl. Depends on what other teams do, of course. But we'll be in the mix. Bigger question for me is whether we can replace our departing seniors suitably enough to actually have a chance at such a record.
Either way, please no "access bowl or bust" talk. If we do lose to Miami and Tennessee (which, let's face it, would be considered the most likely result by most objective observers), I don't want to be sitting here in mid-September with people whining that the season is over.

Well there you go. If true, I'm mildly surprised the Camellia would lock us in with USA still a possibility. But whatever, I'm cool with it.YesAppCan wrote:Brett McMurphy @McMurphyESPN 2m2 minutes ago

Re: Bowl projection update
I would be happy with that bowl, any were but Montgomery, Mobile might be a longer trip, but from what I have heard, its got a lot more to offer in terms of things to do in the city, and I have heard the bowl committee and the city really do a wonderful job rolling out the red carpet for the teams and the fans, plus, playing the Go Daddy bowl two days before Christmas is a deal breaker for alot of our casual fans, maybe they will have a change of heart playing in Mobile a week before Christmas.

It's a deal breaker for a lot of us. Not just casual fans. Anyone with little kids or family plans or a million other obligations that keep them from wanting to spend Christmas Eve in an airport have been rooting against the GoDaddy.moehler wrote:playing the Go Daddy bowl two days before Christmas is a deal breaker for alot of our casual fans, maybe they will have a change of heart playing in Mobile a week before Christmas.

Re: Bowl projection update
While I'm most definitely in the "Mobile is a hard no" camp, it's interesting that the date has been such a turnoff given that they just moved it this year. In previous years, it was always the first week in January - somewhere between the 3rd and 5th I think. I thought that was an awful date too, because by that point everyone's back at work/school, plus for TV viewing it always feels anticlimactic to be watching a lower-tier bowl right after all the big ones have been played.
Guess they need to keep searching the calendar.

Re: Bowl projection update
We go to a bowl the first year we are eligible, yet some still want to bitch about it.
The Stink is going to Mobile because of proximity...not because of some slight to us.
I swear...some of you guys must either have a seed wart on your a$$ or a furuncle in your (as appchicago so eloquently put it) nether regions.
I'm looking forward to being in Montgomery on the 19th and not in Mobile on the 23rd...
