Re: Camelia Bowl
Don't feed the vegatroll guys it's time to celebrate something we could have only hoped for just two years ago.
In just over two weeks I plan on being in downtown Montgomery sharing drinks with Mountaineer fans at night, doing it again the next morning, and then celebrating with those fans and those players at our FIRST BOWL GAME. Especially those seniors that have been through so much and deserve a good send off for maintaining and building upon the great tradition that is Mountaineer football.

Re: Camelia Bowl
All this is true but had we beaten state, things would have been different. We're number two this year (three if we don't win this weekend). We don't belong in the top bowl.CVAPP wrote:I sort of feel the same way. This will be only the 2nd Camelia Bowl ever played. Last year Bowling Green beat USA. We are getting an expansion bowl bid. Regardless, nothing to do now but make the most of it.biggie wrote:Seems like a bit of shaft to me, I rank GoDaddy above Camellia, guess it may depend on the opponent though too.
Having said that, I'm excited as can be about this game. Closest one to me! Looking forward to making the trip.

Re: Camelia Bowl
Is it better to be the only game on a Wednesday night when a lot of people may not be looking for football, or be 1 of 5 on a Saturday that will be a known Bowl Game day? Our game will overlap with the end of the Las Vegas Bowl, but a good bit of it will be the only game on TV.BUTCH1991 wrote:As much as I think the GoDaddy is a slightly better bowl, especially since it's the only game on TV, this works out much better for travel.

Re: Camelia Bowl
For reference the drive to Chattanooga was about 5.5 hours from Charlotte. If we can take 20,000 to Chatty on a weeks notice we should easily be able to get 15,000+ to make this trip. All you have to do is get on I-85 and head south.Saint3333 wrote:Six hour drive from Charlotte, we should have a good crowd there.

Re: Camelia Bowl
While I am totally pumped about this, and had booked a room at the Hampton Inn on Commerce in Montgomery some time ago, am I the only one that is reluctant to book a flight until the Bowl, Conference and/or University make an official announcement?

Couple hours more for me, but I too was glad to see that it's a straight shot on 85. That makes it go faster than having to go on a bunch of state roads.JTApps1 wrote:For reference the drive to Chattanooga was about 5.5 hours from Charlotte. Was thinking I couldn't make it this year as I haven't found anyone to make the trip with me, but I'm going to make a last-ditch effort because I'm already regretting missing it.

MTNDEVIL... I would think you'll be OK. Raycom owned TV station (and the bowl owners) WSFA has confirmed the bowl for APP.

Re: Camelia Bowl
Good point. I do think it's a problem for the Sun Belt that the standings have no direct link to the bowl order. The league needs either a destination bowl for its champion (ideally), or it should let the champion pick its bowl like CUSA does.AppinATL wrote: All this is true but had we beaten state, things would have been different. However, it worked out fine this year. The #1 team is going to the #1 bowl, and the two teams that are currently tied for second are going to the #2 and #3 bowls (and there's no major dropoff between the two IMO).
Look - everything about this league is a work in progress, including the teams. Half the league is made up of recent startups/move-ups, half the bowls are brand new. That's why its slogan is "Together We Rise." Hopefully this stuff gets sorted out over the next few years.

That is true and in the end we get a good opponent in a destination and date that should work for the most people. Can't wait!!EastHallApp wrote:Good point. Re: Camelia Bowl
This is great, anybody complaining is crazy. We are a 1st year bowl eligible team. As a school we have a real chance to turn this into something special. Don't you know that in Chattenooga they still remember how we took over the town...lets do that in Montgomery! I mean in NO or Orlando we wouldn't be the main show, in Montgomery the bowl game is the show. ASU people feeling that the Camelia Bowl is a lessor bowl because it's only in its 2nd year? That's exactly what we don't want anybody saying about App State being a "newbie"...lets go down there and have a great time and realize we got invited and put on a good show! in a few years when other teams go there and we go elsewhere maybe the town will look back on App State and say this______ team ain't nothing compared to when App State Nation rolled into town!

Re: Camelia Bowl
You guys all realize the Go Daddy bowl would be attended by NO ONE from App as it falls on a Tuesday night before Christmas. At least with this bowl App fans will be able to go to it. Can I please interject some common sense into this equation. It's not like we were going to the Peach Bowl, No one is gonna care whether we are in the Go Daddy bowl or Camelia bowl a year from now. Just enjoy the experience.

I am very excited about this game! Can't wait to go to Montgomery! I hope it is official soon so the school can put out a schedule of events for the weekend.

Re: Camelia Bowl
It's possible that we were passed over for the GoDaddy because of ticket sales. We are playing USA in Mobile this weekend and to make the trip back to the same stadium in a matter of weeks may not be enticing.
