I agree. There are so many pieces to a championship team. You need a little luck to go along with the talent to win a championship. We seem to tend to forget the close wins and remember the close losses.
You are so very right. ASU won many of those games due to a gift from God (Armanti Edwards) whom coach freely admits he almost didn't offer and a walk on running back nobody recruited. That is being extremely lucky.

The guys from the 2005-2007 years certainly had a lot to brag about, but I seem to recall some miscreants on those teams who fell short of expectations and a few times when coaches like Shawn Elliott had to get in their grills after they committed a bonehead play.

This team doesn't lack leadership ... or heart ... or a competent coaching staff, as some have suggested. If you don't believe me, follow our players and coaches on Twitter. You'll come away with a different perspective. Yeah, we have some knuckleheads, just as we did in 2005-07, but for the most part they're every bit as dedicated and committed to making us a championship team as any other team in our history.

We need to get healthy, eligible and older. When that happens, we'll win championships again.

Dead serious. Any CEO worth his salt pays attention to the opinions and criticisms of long time customers. Mr Norton is obviously not some Johnny Come Lately who is merely blowing off steam. As indicated he has been attending ASU games since the 60's, and I'm betting has given thousands of dollars to ASU athletics. That is somebody I'd be listening to, but I'm not the all powerful Oz. Why some of you people think Coach Moore is beyond reproach is hard to understand.

Why don't you take a poll on here and see how many posters have received hand-written notes or letters from Coach Moore over the years - he doesn't ignore the fanbase and you are grossly mistaken if you think that is the case - however in the middle of the season he probably has better things to spend his time on ---
My wife has received 2 letters from Coach Moore over the last couple of years - not typed by his admn - hand-written by Coach - I imagine you will find others who will offer similar --- "Beyond Reproach"??? - what a joke !!!

He and his wife met me in Charlotte to autograph a football for my grandson. He wrote a very nice and professionally written note on it to boot.

You have to earn your situation for luck to help. For some reason on here, the coaching staff has never received their due recognition for their achievements only criticism whan the Apps lose. This board is typical in that when a win occurs, the players won it, and when they lose, the coaches lost it.

JCline - help me here - wasn't it just over a week ago where many were praising this team for their heart and refusal to quit - the defense stopped Samford on 2 downs when they needed only 1 yard and the offense took the ball 80 yards for the winning TD - AND, a week later we have a bunch of undisciplined, can't catch a pass, loafing, non-tackling "Pre-Madonnas"
Amazing isn't it???

Yes it is. You're not alone in your observations although we may seem to be in the minority due to the preponderance of negative posts on this board. The rep points given to those posts in this thread showing some of the reasons behind this year's performance without casting blame on the staff or team was refreshing.

Yes, I have a hand-written letter...not just a note...from Coach Moore framed in my office at home. It's a thank you letter for serving on the Chancellor's Football Opportunities Study Committee. This was the group that met for over a year to begin all the stadium enhancements and upgrades. That was twelve years ago. There were about thirty of us on that committee and I'm pretty sure every one of us got a personal letter from him. I also have a couple of notes on cards that he sent me just for writing him to wish the team good luck for an upcoming season.

Jerry DOES pay attention and DOES respond to folks who contact him. Class act all the way!

If Coach Moore is happy to accomodate his admirers by writing them hand written notes & letters, he should be just as responsive to the concerns of long time fans like Mr. Norton. If Coach is only willing to acknowledge the praise and ignore the criticism he needs to find another line of work.

That is why I said "many of those games" and not all of those games. It was clearly in response to the comment about having "a little luck" to win championships. Surely you don't deny there was some good fortune in Edwards and Richardson coming together at ASU?

"If Coach is only willing to acknowledge the praise and ignore the criticism he needs to find another line of work."

"Coach " has been in this line of work for such a long time he has probably seen and heard every kind of criticism possible. I would think that as successful as he has been he has learned to deal with criticism and sort the crazy from the justified and respond accordingly, just as any successful business man or woman would do. As for finding a new line of work, heck the man is over 70 years of age, he will be doing just that sometime in the near future. I say this not because I think he is above criticism but just look at the evidence of his work and some things become obvious.

First, I made no mention whatsoever as to the subject of the correspondences so again you are ASSUMING something you don't know -
Secondly - Coach Moore is one of the most respected coaches in the country - NO ONE gets to that level without considering ALL CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and ideas -
Third - "Another line of work"???? - ARE YOU KIDDING?????????????????
My guess is you haven't been here in the real world for very long ---

There is an element of luck in every signing, every play, and every game but you were singling out JM and staff to suit your agenda. As to the issue of luck, we were lucky to get and keep Jerry Moore and some of his staff over the years.

Coach Moore would have to take into consideration that Norton has had a vendetta against him since day one. He dissed Moore even when we were on our championship runs and win over Michigan saying there was a character issue with Jerry Moore.

You and Norton may have a valid point if we were 2-9 last year and 1-7 this year...we made the playoffs last year and are in contention to do so again this year, let's slow down on the book of Revelation coming true...and as far as returning tickets, this is just plain dumb IMO, "I'll show you, I'll throw away my own money!"..Coach Moore is one of the most postive people I know (and I've spent time with him personally). The truth is that most positive people have zero time for negative nancys

I could quote a lot of things said herein but I thought better of it.

I love ASU football and have through the "not Working" years and through the National Championships.

Right now we are leaning on some young talent.
We do not have the running game we have had in the past.
We do not have the speed at speed of decision making at QB that we have had. (AND NO ONE is there to push him right now).
We are better at OL than we have been in at least 2 years.
We are better coached than we were a year ago.

Coach Moore has NOT lost it any more than he can be deitized for winning "it".

I am going to Western, I am going to make my FIRST trip to Ga. Southern.

Some of you have NO idea what bad football looks like.

I will say this, when you score a defensive touchdown, and a special teams touchdown in a game, you better win that game. Right now, we do not have enough offense in many games to overcome mistakes and indecision.

Support this team or not, support ASU athletics or not....but for me....I am for ASU Football specifically and ASU Athletics in General!
Go APPS!
