We need to make enhancements now, but do so with the intention to expand down the road. Hopefully they have a plan with several steps that all come together in a final product with 35,000 seats or so. Too many projects in the past have been built with no thought to the future impact.

Agreed.EastHallApp wrote:appgrad95&97 wrote:I saw a thread on here the other day indicating a concern about attendance for the home opener. There are regularly conversations about the impact of being televised (assuming you really count ESPN 3). Problems with Thursday night games. Not being able to go to all the games for financial reasons. Kids do their things on weekends. Etc. I don't quite get the excitement about another stadium expansion.
Expansion vs. improvements. A big increase to capacity, I agree, isn't warranted right now. But there are a number of enhancements that would be beneficial for the stadium and the program.
This probably isn't a very realistic thought, but instead of expanding seating (other than adding premium, if as 66 says there is demand already) I would rather just tear down the East side, upper deck at the very least, and do it the right way. I love KBS and the views from the stadium but that East side is an eye sore. Excited to see what Gillin has in store.

Re: New Vision for The Rock
Don't the temp bleachers and grass seating give us about 32k seating? 35k Max just sounds right to me. I mean what is the absolute realistic number of consistently attending App fans that we should expect? 20k?? How many Wake fans should we expect? 10k?EastHallApp wrote:appgrad95&97 wrote:I saw a thread on here the other day indicating a concern about attendance for the home opener. Re: New Vision for The Rock
For right now, it's a fundraiser initiative for a new video board and they're looking for roughly $3 million. The funds have already been allocated for expansion. With that said, I have a source who cannot be named on the football staff and he told me that Owens Fieldhouse is coming down at the end of the season to build a new massive dorm to close in that end of the field. Temporary seating will remain for a couple years until they can put permanent seating in. Hopefully that means they'll get rid of the track too!

Re: New Vision for The Rock
Glad to see we're finally investing in a big boy video board.
Would we move the current one to the north end zone to replace the high-school one on top of Owens?

Yeah that thing is an embarrassment. Owens needs to be taken down too while we are at it.SayYesToTheRock wrote:Glad to see we're finally investing in a big boy video board.

I don't think that financially you get one without the other.....putting it together would make financial sense IYAM.EastHallApp wrote:appgrad95&97 wrote:I saw a thread on here the other day indicating a concern about attendance for the home opener. Re: New Vision for The Rock
I have NO doubt that the immediate improvement will be a Video Board. But I must say that some things have happened in the last dozen years and certainly in the last two that I did not know if I'd get to live to see.....so while all this may seem slow to some and too fast for others...for the most part I think we have some of the right people in place to make this more special than it has been for all of us. Let's breathe, we got black end zones,we'll get the Video Board, there will be seating expansion mixed with stadium enhancements...the most important aspect is keeping and enhancing a good program. We have to remember we are just two years past what many on thought of as an apocalypse. Let's just enjoy the ride. BTW it is good to see not much has changed since I last visited regularly.

Re: New Vision for The Rock
The BIGGEST MISTAKE is the lack of vision from the very get go of the origin of today's Kidd Brewer Stadium in that the incorrect pitch was decided on for original stands compounded with designing multipurpose facility ala running track.JTApps1 wrote:We need to make enhancements now, but do so with the intention to expand down the road. Back in those days was considered saving money......Today we are paying or will pay dearly for that mistake.
Same principle took place in the 60s when all the multipurpose stadiums were built ala Philadelphia Veterans, Atlanta Fulton County, Pittsburgh Three Rivers, Cincinnati Riverfront and the like.
With strong potential for growth any expansion going forward cannot be lame brained as our past. I've read lot of great cost effective ideas on our boards through the years even given quite a few but the sledge hammer got my blackberrys too.
KICK ASS!!!

Re: New Vision for The Rock
Video board on the north end should be the next enhancement in my opinion. The masses sitting on the hill next week will agree after about halftime when their necks hurt from constantly having to turn around. You will see tomorrow and other games after Miami why there is no need for more seating to be added. Not worth it just for the one P5 or major G5 we bring in once or twice a year.
IMO until season ticket holders account for half of the current capacity, which would equate to about 12k season tickets there is no need for expansion. Outside of Miami there are plenty of single game tickets available. Georgia Southern is really the only Sun Belt team that brings a lot of fans to help fill our stadium.
Anyways...Kick some Monarch ass tomorrow.

Re: New Vision for The Rock
We need to, at least, have a plan for expansion to 30,000, in case they decide that's the minimum for FBS football again. Maybe even 35,000.

I hope it has a sound system like Tennessees had. That was the loudest sound system with heavy bass and you could here every word. It look like Tennessee had speakers that they rolled in down on field .

Syracuse had 34k last night for their game against Louisville. They get that for basketball.

And even with this, the dome is going to get a massive renovation. Luxury boxes, a/c, and a new, permanent roof, no more inflatable roof. I love the idea of us having a master plan that encorporates more seating, just in later phases. Right now, let's roll with smart enhancements.AppSt94 wrote:Syracuse had 34k last night for their game against Louisville. They get that for basketball.
