Most of them are his contacts, along with Watts and Smith. I'd hope they were sold on App rather than the coaches. I think Clark sticks around as well. I think he's in it for the glory rather than the money, at least at this point, and that kind of loyalty is nearly impossible to find and it certainly can't be bought.HighPointApp wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 10:36 pmI agree

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
12 months ago, I was sitting in a hotel bar in NYC, after a really long day of delayed flights and client meetings, when I was finally able to catch up on Drinks hiring. This year, I’ll be sitting in a hotel bar in Ann Arbor, probably doing the same thing. Is this my new normal December?

Dear DG;
Trust you to get us the best coach you can find. One request, can the next guy have more than 11 months of loyalty?
Thanks,
Loyal App fans

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
I have one request for our new head coach.....have App bloodlines that run mountain deep.
We need trust and loyalty and stability around which our players, coaches, and fans can bond.
I have one request for the administration.
Usher the Kool Ade man out the nearest door as quickly as possible and make damn sure the Roof is one step behind and keeps on walking.
The yards and points given up by our outstanding defensive talent can only be attributed to one thing.....
Poor Coaching!!!

I am high on Clark, but so many times the emotional reaction and hire does not work. Just see Luke, Matt-Ole Miss. DG needs to be cautious. The players guy sometimes ends in disasterMikebibbyforthreeeee wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 9:37 pmClark needs to be the guy, go look at Twitter literally every player is begging Doug to hire Shawn.

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
The players love Coach Roof and he loves these kids. Our Defense was solid and at times awesome. Sports Analysts said that was why they thought we were better than we were being given credit for..."good Defensive football team". Keep Roof!!! LMAO at some of you...be careful what you wish for.CharleyHustle wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 11:59 pmAppinAtl....since you mentioned it in your post and then invited input, let me be the first to accommodate your request. But sometimes it's the slam dunk hire you need; just see Coach O at LSU.App91 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 11:32 pmI am high on Clark, but so many times the emotional reaction and hire does not work. Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
Clark was promoted to Asst Head Coach because DG saw his value. I’d be happy with him.
Should we hire outside I want the questioned asked. “Can you guarantee you won’t leave for the term of your contract.” AND the big one..”How do you define stepping stone”?

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
LOL...yeah, and those answers given would be disingenuous at best or simply an out right lie. As soon as a 2-3 mil offer came the coach would bounce, just reality.Rekdiver wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 6:44 amClark was promoted to Asst Head Coach because DG saw his value. I’d be happy with him.

If people think (and by people I mean the person making the hiring decision) that Clark is in it for more than just the money because he truly loves App and wants to build something long term, then he deserves a shot

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
Even if we hire Clark there is no guarantee he won't eventually leave. I totally believe he would be here 4 or more years but if we continue with sustained success and hes made a great offer in a place he and his family would enjoy than hes leaving. I do believe he would be more selective because he enjoys being here but he would still likely be gone. I don't believe anyone thought Drink would be here 4 years but the one and done thing makes us feel used and that this was never about anything but him.Rekdiver wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 6:44 amClark was promoted to Asst Head Coach because DG saw his value. Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
This is a precarious situation. We all want the best person for the job. One thing we haven’t discussed is: what if Gillin leaves too. I for one want the new coach to be the new AD’s man. Very similar to Satterfield/Gillen the safest bet seems to be Clark. We are close, right now, to loosing 2 recruiting classes.

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
These awesome players, many of whom will see their 3rd coach in four years, are calling out for stability and continuity. I think we owe it to them to listen. Hiring Clark would be great for recruiting and on-field performance. Postponing his hiring is only going to cause confusion, defections, and de-commits. Hire him today, whip UAB, and move on with a nearly seamless transition to the Clark Era.

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
Especially if we have an AD search in the near future. We Really can’t afford to mess that one up. If we hire Clark and keep the continuity 2020 is probably a good or great (10+) win season. Give him a 3 or 4 year contract with a decent buyoutMAD Doctor wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 7:43 amThese awesome players, many of whom will see their 3rd coach in four years, are calling out for stability and continuity. Clark was the glue that held things together last season under identical circumstances. His commitment, loyalty and devotion to duty are second to none!

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
This next hire will be more important than Drink's hire. The next two recruiting classes will be crucial to our immediate & future success. We will be in a complete re-build mode for 2021. I fully support hiring Shawn. He has all of the intangibles!

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
If the players are as high on Clark as they seem to be I hope he is the front runner. I would still do a formal search. Sometimes a great Assistant coach does not turn out to be a good Head Coach due to that individual now having to deal heavily with personnel management.

How do you figure that we are close to losing two recruiting classes? Please explain.shortfatoldapp wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 7:42 amThis is a precarious situation.
