Re: Stadium renovation to start soon?
my wife just renovated our bathroom with our own money. I'd rather have paid for the removal of the track.
Putting fans closer to the field gives us more home field advantage beyond the obvious aesthetic appeal of track removal.

Or if they have good financial numbers showing it's needed and affordable. The worst thing we could do now is start a major building project (just to be #1) if we don't need it or can't afford it.bcoach wrote:I understand what you are saying and there is a lot of truth in it, but what you have outlined has not yet paid for what we have. That means somebody pulling out checkbooks. My point is that we need to pay for what we have before taking on more debt. It is very easy to say "I want" and a little more difficult to say "I'll pay for". I really think we need to get through a season or two and find our real expenses before deciding our next step. If that finds us in a position where we can afford to tank the track then let's do it. In the mean time our stadium is WAY FAR from a high school stadium.ASU-FTW wrote:It is our own money in a sense because just about everyone who has an interest in the enhancement has gone to App for higher education and has supported athletics through attendance, donations, purchase of merchandise, etc. We just want it done right.bcoach wrote:I just wonder how many on here would still object to that track if it were their own money they were spending. I agree the band aid would be just plain stupid.
But if the numbers (which we don't really have) show that we a backlog of Normal, Club and Box seats waiting to be sold and revenue would increase, I say why wait, go for it. As long as the person that puts up the numbers is willing to put his/her job behind it.
Either way I don't think we have anything to hang our heads down about the stadium. I never thought it looked nothing but great anytime I've seen it on TV or in person.
I do wish they'd bring back the black end zones and break up that solid gold area on the sidelines, but that's just a pet peeve.

Re: Stadium renovation to start soon?
There isn't a waiting list for season tickets, but there is a waiting list for club seats.
I doubt that the majority here would be ok with adding a small amount of lower level bench seating with 500 additional club seats in the north endzone, but that is what current demand would dictate.
But none of that is going to happen until we can build seats where the temp bleachers are until the track is relocated.
Wait a few years. Move the field 15 feet closer to the east side, tear down the west side seats, regrade them, and add seating in the north endzone the following year. We're looking at a another $50M minimum to do this right.
The quick fix is to relocate the track and build north endzone seating (hopefully connected to each side). I personally would rather wait five years.

Re: Stadium renovation to start soon?
Track relocation should have been a priority before any renovations. To make the stadium as it should be things already paid for will need to be torn down. It is clear there was no thought or long term plan put into KBS. The stadium is a patchwork facility and entirely asymmetrical. With the installation of handicap seats on the west stands the lower portions no longer match. The image put out for the expansion still shows the track. We desperately need some professional out of the box thinkers running this athletic department. Time to stop hiring buddies, alumni and people w/o the proper experience.Saint3333 wrote:There isn't a waiting list for season tickets, but there is a waiting list for club seats.

Re: Stadium renovation to start soon?
I know there is a waiting list for club, and we overflow to lawn but I don't know if that would change if we had seats or not. Boxes are full, but I don't know about a waiting list for more. I think club takes a $24k-$50k yosef contribution and boxes are like $100k.Saint3333 wrote:There isn't a waiting list for season tickets, but there is a waiting list for club seats.
It's hard right now to predict the demand after the move because so much is dependant on wins, etc. But we also get a lot of locals and pretty hardcore fans. As long as we are not total failures at the FBS, I wouldn't think the demand for club and boxes wouldn't fall off that much (because a lot of those are write-offs as well), but I'm not an expert and haven't seen any numbers to prove or disprove this.
Anyway what we could do without moving the track, is build the Dorm and Athletics complex pretty much as shown on the Feasibility Study. That would give us club and/or box seats and be mostly paid out of housing funds (which is usually an enterprise fund) and only the seating would come from athletic money. They need a new exercise/athletic complex anyway and their exercise science program is making money down at the research center in K-town that can be use for this as well.
I think we could do all that, without moving the track!
But If they move the track I'm fine with it, and I do think that it would end up helping our track program (which is pretty good anyway) if we had their own place, possibly with all weather fields.
If we wanted to move the track first anyway (for the track program), we could add lower level seats around the field for almost nothing, but I don't really see anyone wanting to sit there because it would be almost a ground level view. So I'm not sure if there is any value.
Just as a comparison, here is some info for BoA stadium in charlotte.
The first row of seating along the sidelines is located 53 feet from the sideline. The first row of seating in the end zone is 20 feet from the back of the end zone. All seats are elevated and designed for optimal viewing angles.

Where are you getting these figures from? $1,500 a year would get you club seats if we had any available. I wish we had a six hundred fans giving $24K-50K a year!Maddog1956 wrote:I know there is a waiting list for club, and we overflow to lawn but I don't know if that would change if we had seats or not. Re: Stadium renovation to start soon?
When they initially offered the club seats they required a $2,500 annual donation to the Yosef Club and the seats (up to 4) could be purchased for $500 each (sign a 5 or 10 year deal to lock in the price).
Boxes required a capital campaign contribution (amount unknown to me) and were $25k a season (minimum 5 year deal).

I called and asked, but it's been awhile, if anyone wants to double check me they can this is the number (828) 262-3108.JTApps1 wrote:Where are you getting these figures from? $1,500 a year would get you club seats if we had any available. This is from the the web site, but I didn't mean each year but over the life, I was thinking of 5-7 years, if I remember correctly it has went to about $25,000 for seven, but when I was on the phone a guy in the background was telling her to say $50,000. Maybe because they have been so oversold. I was just thinking off the top of my head what I remembered the total was going to be. Sorry for any confusion.
For example, if you sign a 3-year agreement at 4 percent escalation for a Mountaineer Luxury Suite you will pay a total of $25,000 first year, a total of $26,000 (1.04*25,000) the second year; and a total of $27,040 (1.04*26,000) the final year. Term options are available for three, five and seven years.
But the point is they sell for a whole lot more than seat tickets, and cost very little more to build, in some cases. Plus on the club deck they sell beer and food to a much higher degree, because you never really leave the game.

Once you remove the track, you could have less gradual rows right near the field and make them bleachers for students. Students won't care about sitting and will be glad they won't have to sit up on the hills in the wet dirt around the stadium. Plus, the students will be loud and putting them as close to the field and players is better for the gameday experience.

Is a new soccer stadium not being built already? If so, putting the track around that would be perfect.Kgfish wrote:Problem solved. Takes care of two needs with one structure.

I honestly think that we will see a combo of funds. Part of the 200+ mil. will go to student housing....and I'd bet part of the stadium renovation will be a dorm.

Has the idea of a track/soccer multi-purpose facility been pitched to Cobb and Co? It'd be a great idea.
