Re: Bowl Game
It's funny how some people act like it was crazy to even consider the (totally realistic) possibility that we might go 11-1, yet now we're dreaming up scenarios where we might miss a bowl.
I know some of you guys are cautious, but man... Relax, we're going bowling. It's just a matter of where.

Re: Bowl Game
Exactly. And with 80 spots and only 77 projected eligible, all 6-6 or better teams will be bowling. And 3 teams with a losing record will fill the last 3 (in order of their APR, which will be interesting)

Re: Bowl Game
In a weeks time there likely will be new or different scenarios. I would take where we are at this point in time rather than needing X number of wins to become bowl eligible. As for going 11-1, it didn't turn out to be so realistic. Now 10-2...stayed tuned!

Re: Bowl Game
Well whatever bowl it is mark your day of December 19 to be at our first bowl. Orlando, Montgomery or Mobile will be the destination.

I think you meant to include New Orleans and not Mobile, which hosts the GoDaddy on the 23rd.Rekdiver wrote:Well whatever bowl it is mark your day of December 19 to be at our first bowl. Orlando, Montgomery or Mobile will be the destination.

Re: Bowl Game
Spot on post here. Right now we would go to the Camellia bowl, but if ULL and Troy are eligible the Cure Bowl will pick between us and GS, and the other likely goes to the Tuscon, AZ bowl, which I'm fine with over the Camellia Bowl.asucrutch23 wrote:I hope Troy and ULL get bowl eligible and are picked over us.
There are not going to be enough 6-6 teams, meaning we would get picked up by a better bowl. The Sun Belt bowls are bottom of the barrel. The Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC are all unlikely to fill their spots, which would put us in one of their bottom bowls if the SBC bowls take other teams.
I'd take a trip to Detroit to play a P5 or Dallas to play CUSA over Montgomery any day.

Can't imagine we'd sell too many tickets for Detroit or Tuscon. At least Tuscon would be a nice trip for the players.

I'd take the Camellia Bowl over Tuscon all day. After all of the bickering among the fan base over moving up/Jerry Moore, Charlie Cobb we need to have a bowl that our fans can travel to and get involved in. Montgomery isn't the best city on earth, but it is the closest bowl to us that we realistically have a shot at. Plus a good showing in fan support this year will help build a case for us getting invites to other bowls in the future.

Re: Bowl Game
On ESPN.com, Brett McMurphy is predicting we'll play in the Camellia Bowl. Mark Schlabach predicts the New Orlean's Bowl.
Both of them are predicting Georgia Southern playing in the Cure Bowl.
Here are some scenarios I see if ULL gets to 6 wins, Ark St wins out (very likely):
New Orleans: History tells us they want ULL in this spot.
GoDaddy.com: Past evidence suggests they want the highest ranking SBC team: Ark St.
Camellia: If we finish 10-2 and GaSo 9-3, we may very well get the call. If both we and GaSo finish 9-3, we'll own the tie breaker and finish higher in the standings. At this point, I have no idea what to think. Statesboro is roughly 5 hours away. Boone is 7 hrs (CLT is 6hrs) away. I would assume the highest ranking team will play in this spot. Odds are that's us.
Cure: This is the one I would pick if I had my say. But GaSo almost certainly takes this one for reasons listed above.
If ULL DOESN'T become Bowl eligible:
New Orleans: Maybe they take the conference champion which will almost certainly be Ark St? The other alternative is picking the closest team in South Alabama... but that just doesn't feel right.
GoDaddy.com: At this point it's likely we'll be the highest ranking Sun Belt team. But if ULL isn't eligible due to losing to both South Alabama and App State, maybe South Alabama gets tapped to play in their own backyard? While I'm biased, I still think App is the bigger draw on TV and we'll get picked to play right before Christmas.
Camellia: At this point GaSo is the highest ranking team in the Sun Belt and would probably be a better TV draw than South Alabama. I say GaSo gets it.
Cure: When it all shakes out... South Alabama gets the nod and plays in Orlando.
Again, my personal preference is to play in Orlando. Anything can happen!

Re: Bowl Game
It would be pretty crazy if neither App nor Southern winds up in Orlando. That tie-in seems like it exists basically to get a bowl closer to the eastern schools. Having both go into Alabama while an Alabama school goes to Orlando would be... curious.

Well now that those hate mongering southern stars and bars no longer fly over Dixie, officially ending the Civil War, racism, and bringing closure to the final season of Lost, it's only a matter of time until a bowl of some kind is established in the Palmetto State. We all know geography means about as much as a fart in the wind in college football, but you'd have to assume it could be a Sunbelt - CUSA/AAC match up. I know Benson would like to avoid any more MACtion and pit some FUNBELT heat against another league.

Did I read correctly that we would know our bowl destination on December 6th ? I thought I had seen that somewhere on App State Sports page.

Yes. The 6th is when all bowl invites are finalized. All conference championship and regular season games end on the 5th.

Re: Bowl Game
It just seems to me that it is a huge assumption that South Alabama even becomes eligible. They are sitting at 4-4 with a 10 point win against Gardner Webb and a 50 point loss to NC State and a loss to Texas State. Bottom line is that they have to get 2 wins against ULL, Stink, US, and Ga. State. I wouldn't bet the house and trailer they are even in the conversation on the 5th.

Re: Bowl Game
ULL has barely squeaked by the last two inferior opponents and still has us, Troy and South Alabama. Not even close to a slam dunk that they go 2-2. I personally don't like the New Orleans Bowl for a few reasons: 1) games in the Super Dome look terrible for some reason, maybe the turf on that field. 2) how big is that place? will the bottom bowl even be filled? Outdoors in Orlando just sounds much better. I personally don't care where we play when it is all said and done. If we can finish strong and take the last three the players really earned a nice spot for their game.APPARJ wrote:On ESPN.com, Brett McMurphy is predicting we'll play in the Camellia Bowl. On a side note, I read on another thread that Nunn would possibly be back for the bowl. Could we have the entire O LIne back?

Re: Bowl Game
Your wish has already been granted...sort of. The Palmetto Bowl (formerly the Medal of Honor All-Star Bowl) is on the books for December 16th of 2016 at Johnson Hagood in Charleston. I believe the official application has been submitted (and is expected to just be a formality) and for the games bowl-tie in's and tv partners to be announced. I figure the Sun Belt will certainly be in the mix.APPdiesel wrote:Well now that those hate mongering southern stars and bars no longer fly over Dixie, officially ending the Civil War, racism, and bringing closure to the final season of Lost, it's only a matter of time until a bowl of some kind is established in the Palmetto State. Re: RE: Re: Bowl Game
Being that I live in Greenville, SC I've got my fingers crossed for it. The game will be hosted at the Citadel's home stadium so not huge, the Sunbelt will have a foothold in SC, so it's only logical Sunbelt will be involved.HkyMtneer wrote:Your wish has already been granted...sort of.
