I heard it plenty from coaches, and I will blame the schools. TV can't force them to play on Friday they have to agree to it.JTApps1 wrote:I don't like playing on Friday any more than you, but lets not act like this would be an App problem. Tons of colleges play on Friday now. I remember how many people made us out to be the bad guy in 2008 yet I never hear a word about how awful it is for an ACC school to play on Friday.bcoach wrote:You don't have to buy anything as I am not selling. I am making a statement of fact. Collage football on Friday night is not good for high school football. Just ask a high school coach how they feel about it.ASUPATCH wrote:I get the cant get recruits to the games. But hurting he football is crazy. Maybe 8-10 fans at App games attends football. From multiple states. So on average you might hurt each high school by what 2-3 ticket sales. Not buying that argument at all.
Blame TV not the schools.

Let's see piss off ESPN who unfortunately can play a role in future schedules or possibly irritate a couple coaches. Second one can be mended significantly easier.

This is a Miami decision to "piss off" ESPN not App. Anyone that believes App will be the party that keeps this game on Saturday vs. Friday may not understand how TV networks, especially ESPN operate.boonetown1 wrote:Let's see piss off ESPN who unfortunately can play a role in future schedules or possibly irritate a couple coaches. bcoach, question? When your Friday game is rained out what day do you re-schedule for? Saturday - you are messing with college games. Monday - you are disrupting soccer games.
I have been coaching MS, Jr High and HS football for over 30 years, other peoples decisions do not upset me anymore. If I want to go and can I go. We have always welcomed any coach recruiter on our campus, even the ones from ccc and gnat.

Maybe..."Per the conference’s contractual agreement with ESPN, one more game involving a Sun Belt institution will be selected soon to be played on a Thursday or Friday and televised nationally on an ESPN network."

When I was in coaching, we scheduled make ups on Saturdays, but once the "monsoons" continued through Saturday and we had to play the following Monday night. It played Hades on that week's practice schedule with another game coming on the next Friday night.huskie3 wrote:bcoach, question? When your Friday game is rained out what day do you re-schedule for? Re: Sunbelt Football Conference Schedule delayed
I STRONGLLY prefer that the game remain on Saturday and I do understand the concern over the impact on Friday night HS games, but the reality is that we are not driving this boat. I have to believe that most HS coaches understand the role ESPN plays today. I would hope that a coach wouldn't have some knee jerk reaction (not welcoming a recruiter) that would negatively impact his players by removing solid options from his future.
The reality is that college football does NOT speak with one voice and will never "rise up" with a single voice to fight back on "moral" grounds. Conferences aren't even unified enough to act collectively. In fact the conference is on the OTHER side of this issue because of the commitment to provide a certain number of weeknight games. Ultimately, schools and conferences pursue their own agenda and do what they have to do in order to pay the bills. We are simply not in a position to take a rigid / strong stand when the conference and ESPN are both on the other side of the negotiation.

State plays Carolina this year on a Friday. At some point these high school coaches are gonna have to quit the complaining. If people wanna come watch you, they will.

Miamia 100% does NOT want this game on Friday. Extra day out of class for 100+ students and student staffers among other reasons.EastHallApp wrote:I seriously doubt that Miami is looking at a Friday night game vs. App State as a chance for "exposure."
They changed it to Thursday.TheMoody1 wrote:Didn't Watauga change their game to Saturday the one time App had a Friday night game?
That game is on Black Friday, which is way difference than a Friday in September. 90-95% of high school teams are done by then and it's a holiday week anyway.Yosef10 wrote:State plays Carolina this year on a Friday. The point about Friday being high school night is completely fair.

Ok. There are 4 other ACC in-conference games on Fridays The first being Sept. 9. The point about Friday being for HS was fair 10 years ago but is moot now. Times have changed.

Actually, no the times haven't changed. A Friday night college football game in the area still has a tremendous financial impact on high school sporting events traditionally played on the same night. Just because more colleges are willing to prostitute themselves for television doesn't make it right.

Re: Sunbelt Football Conference Schedule delayed
Most high school football programs need the gate receipts from Friday night football to help fund their overall athletic departments. I will concede there is far more competition for attendance at these games than there used to be but in my opinion college ball does not unnecessarily need to bite the hand that will be feeding them.

Agree on the impact, but I believe the line between WILLING to prostitute and HAVING to is becoming thinner and thinner.

EXACTLY! "Willingness" has nothing to do with it. These games are generally being forced down the schools throat. The schools are probably (usually) financial losers in this arrangement as well. It is a reality of the world today.

We are fighting it. We may not win, but I hope it's seen by everyone that we aren't going willingly. I think it will be seen that way, and it is becoming commonplace to play Friday games (does that make it right? Not really), but at least we'll do what we can.
