Re: New Vision for The Rock
One topic I never hear discussed in any improvement conversations is our stadium lighting.
I have been to high school games with better lighting.
When we have had night games on TV you see player shadows on the field. We definitely in the future need to add or improve our stadium lights for late kickoff games!

Re: New Vision for The Rock
There is a clear demand for more premium seating at The Rock for our wine and cheese crowd.
Replacing Owens with a nice, luxury seating area - still low enough to see Howard's Knob - would meet this need and enhance the stadium's overall aesthetics.
Of course - the building should be designed with the intention of eventually bowling off the north end zone - though that isn't really needed anytime soon, based on today's attendance.
However packed it winds up being next Saturday...the Miami game is an outlier. Major expansions should wait until we're routinely packing in 30K for Texas State, ULM, and other equally unexciting programs.

Anyone else anxiously waiting for some news on this? Thought it was supposed to be announced today?

Anxious? Oh yeah! We've all heard a few things by this point no doubt but I'm ready to see something in print. I imagine we'll be looking at something in the favored release time of 3 to 5pm.shhelms wrote:Anyone else anxiously waiting for some news on this? Thought it was supposed to be announced today?

Are we thinking the north endzone video board, standing room on the field, field level seating, new concession areas, etc. is it for the announcement?

No, I'm sure "New Vision" refers to something long-term, not just for Miami.Yosef10 wrote:Are we thinking the north endzone video board, standing room on the field, field level seating, new concession areas, etc. is it for the announcement?

Re: New Vision for The Rock
I heard if they remove the track, they'll lower the field to make room for seats where the current track is and they're going to tear down Owens and build a huge dorm that will house student athletes

I will never trust a tease from our admin again if that's the case. I was hoping for a comprehensive master plan for the future of Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Absolutely need better lighting as well. Those televised night games look way too dark on the broadcast.

Re: New Vision for The Rock
Something i haven't seen said when discussing possible changes to the stadium in past threads; is the idea of moving the west stands away from the tower somehow. There just isn't enough room in the concourse. Concession lines stretch the full width, its very difficult to walk around under there.

Re: New Vision for The Rock
New video is out, though for some reason no accompanying press release yet:

Only thing mentioned is a bigger video board. Good idea, but maybe a bit underwhelming given the tease. I'm also not loving the location where it's depicted in the graphic (middle of the grass hill, and low enough to obstruct all views of anyone sitting/walking behind it).

Yeah a bit underwhelming, but looks nice. I'd assume the placement (if actual) would be because the grass hill will be moved closer eventually when we cover the track

Re: New Vision for The Rock
The placement could be an attempt to get people off the hill and in seats. The hill is great and all, but I've noticed the crowd seems to be a little disconnected during the game. I've observed a lot of fans that look like they're at a picnic instead of a football game. I don't mind losing a portion of the hill for this board.

Re: New Vision for The Rock
Looking at the dimensions, that board is going to be huge. It says overall, so I wonder if that everything around the board or just the screen size. If it's just the screen size. Wow.

Re: New Vision for The Rock
It is a program for a new scoreboard. As far as expanding the stadium, why? You have to generate revenue to justify the investment. You have to have the demand to sell the seats. Is the demand there? I am going to say no. They may tear down the field house and build some more permanent seats for the students and the band, but in as far as expansions for the fans for seating, NO. I will say that they will be looking at more premium seating for the fans that are willing to pay. That generates revenue and they will pay for this.

Re: New Vision for The Rock
One of the potential areas for that much-needed premium seating is the walkway behind the hill. If they put the scoreboard on the hill (rather than behind the walkway, for example), that would pretty much eliminate that option, as far as I can tell. Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding.

Re: New Vision for The Rock
There appears to be room under the east upper deck for some suites. Don't know if it's feasible, but that area could be closed in for 12 to 14 individual suites.
