Re: Clemson game thread and discussion
I haven’t read this thread since yesterday and I don’t really see the point.
Is it justifiable to be disappointed in the results yesterday? Absolutely
Were we out-coached yesterday? No question. They knew our gameplan on defense and figured out how to exploit it. Kudos to them.
Were we outmanned yesterday? It certainly appears so. That is a good football team with superior talent.
Does anyone deserved to be fired for last night? No.
Will anyone be fired for last night? Again, NO!
I’m not going to pick on player performance but the passing game was off badly yesterday and that was on all parts.
The results of last night do not change anything about the team goals. The SBC East, the conference championship and a possible CFP berth are all still attainable.
Clemson was the best opponent that we will face this season unless we get into the CFP.
The games over, the season starts next week with 10 games about G5 peers.
If you want to sit and stew in your feeling, feel free. We have another game in 7 days.

We can’t look at last night and think we won’t lose again. Blueprint is now out there, although it was already out there. Miracles happen.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 8:58 amClemson averaged almost 10 yards per play last night. They completed 82% of there passes. I've never seen a good team get shredded like that. I would rather get beat by fifty than see the other team start running out of bounds because our defense is THAT pathetic.

Under the previous regime I believe SC would have to win the league to return in 25. Under new management, I don’t know.

Re: Clemson game thread and discussion
I'm more frustrated because in the last several years, we have shown up in these games and last night, well I guess we forgot to get on the bus to make the trip. The defense looked horrific and were outmatched.
Clemson had something to prove last night. They are in the media, we aren’t. After the 2nd half in the Georgia game, they were counted out. Whether we like it or not, they had to run up the score because if they want to get back into the playoff discussion (if they don’t win the ACC) they need to show the powers that be that they are a top team.
Being embarrassed at being an App alum/fan is laughable and honestly, pathetic. It’s one freaking game, albeit a horrible one, but get over it. We are still a winning program that has pride and believes in ourselves. Some of you need to live by their 24 hour rule and move on.

Just a few missed assignments. We will look at the film and get those all corrected before ECU and then it’s off for glory.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 9:14 amI haven’t read this thread since yesterday and I don’t really see the point.

I don’t think they ran up the score. They could have literally broken triple digits. We were not in the game after two series. Physically or mentally as I saw it.

They could have. I shoulder have worded it differently. It was more in line with the ones made dabo went for it on 4th down.

Re: Clemson game thread and discussion
Some of the responses on here are laughable. Clemson is closer in talent to Georgia than we are to Clemson and they got crushed. NC State is closer in talent to Tennessee than we are to Clemson and they got hammered yesterday. We have beaten several p4 schools and played others very close. Everyone is acting like Clemson is Vanderbilt now. Could we have played better? Obviously. But are we now a terrible team? Personally I don’t think so, but yesterday’s game has also happened to alot of other schools around the country so far. It just looks like there are big talent levels in college football this year.App_in_Maiden wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 9:18 amI'm more frustrated because in the last several years, we have shown up in these games and last night, well I guess we forgot to get on the bus to make the trip. Re: Clemson game thread and discussion
Good post. I knew we would get throttled facing an 0-1 Clemson team that was humiliated in the opener. Clemson is a better team that was highly motivated, and we played our worst game in a long time. It's over, let's focus on next week.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 9:14 amI haven’t read this thread since yesterday and I don’t really see the point.

Genuinely believe they could have dropped 80-100 on us last night if they wanted to.

Re: Clemson game thread and discussion
While A&M was overrated and poorly coached. We went into that game with a game plan that was very well executed. We ran the ball, bleed the clock, limited there opportunities. That's more or less what N. Illinois did to ND. I am no football coach, but last night it looked like our plan was "eff it, let's go toe to toe with Clemson and see what happens". If our defense is really that bad we're going to have to run the ball. Can we?

We weren’t going to be able to run on Clemson. Georgia couldn’t run on them. And once Clemson got up big so fast we were kinda screwed. Clemson has a crazy good defense and I suspect will end up winning 10+ games.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 9:29 amWhile A&M was overrated and poorly coached. Georgia ran well on them with RB3 and 4 after halftime. Clemson will win 10 games.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 9:31 amWe weren’t going to be able to run on Clemson. Can we win 8? Hard to say yes after last night.

Not jumping. Seen enough of Coach Clark to be realistic.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 8:22 amOffense is legit, but that defense front will all play on Sunday's.Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 7:28 amTell us about Clemson’s offense.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 7:14 amThanks for having me back!311neers wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 6:54 amTop 5 only because of their schedule. Good team, not great. Welcome back.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 5:28 amIt's a one off game, Clemson will be top 5 by seasons end....calm down - they had them on two 3rd downs and DB's had mental breakdowns, you can't win the game in the 1st quarter but you sure as hell can lose it.
The more alarming thing and Ive harped on it for a few years now,
The September schedule the AD has put before #TEAMCLARK the last 3 Septembers '22 - '23' '24 has been first class unjust and unfair. The man has zero feel at being able to piece a schedule together in order to help make his program look better..
Ya"ll will dispute me but I am 110% correct on this...cupcakes need to be in place between P5 and rivalry's
#TeamClark still lives here!
Clemson has a top 5 defense... there is no pre season in college so it takes til week 3 to really settle in as a team in college football.
and to reference your Clemson weak schedule comment - that's my point - App State can't continue to sneak up on these P5's each year and pull off an upset - Dabo had them boys ready, App made 2 3rd down mistakes in 1st quarter and the snowball rolled at that point.
Dummy down the schedule and the playoff is a possibility in the future!!! but not until then, can't ask a App State team to play perfect for 12 games. Doug gives in to the Sofields and Ricks crew on playing the big boys and other decisions -- he can't think for himself to help elevate the program, it's stuck in the purgatory of FBS.... Other schools stepped up there game and all he did was add seats to create more debt.
Now onto a rival game and a SBC game 4 days after that, tough sleding ahead.
Only 3 App State teams since 1990 has finished the season with only 1 loss -- #TeamClark was apart of 2 out of the 3.
Look App State isn't as bad as that final score and Clemson not as good as that final score, they could play next Saturday and it probably would be a closer game. Don't jump off the Grandfather Mt just yet.

How many seasons in a row does that need to be said and still not happen. Don’t look at the fluffed record against teams with losing records. I’m pretty sure our record since 2020 against teams with winning record is sub .500.

It was bad, it was embarrassing, it’s happening more and more under the current coaching. I have never understood this “happy to be here” mentality and it’s probably what’s gotten app into the hole it’s in.App_in_Maiden wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 9:18 amI'm more frustrated because in the last several years, we have shown up in these games and last night, well I guess we forgot to get on the bus to make the trip. Just win the conference. We have to get back to winning our conference before the rest of this really matters. It is all a side show. Win the conference.
Anyone saying they are embarrassed to be an App fan right now should take their diploma and return it to the chancellor's office, never step foot on campus again, never post on this board again, trash all your App gear, never put your App degree on your resume again, and completely disown and disavow anything App from your life.
Or....stop being stupid and get over yourself about a football game. I hate that we lost, but I'm not embarrassed to be an App fan because of it. Let's be perfectly truthful about one thing. If your life revolved around football to that degree that you feel embarrassed to get blasted by a program that has two national championships in the last ten years, then you should have attended a college with a bigger program. I love our program, but I accept our limitations and pull for us anyway.

Oh golly gee willikers I was so happy to be a Mountaineer last night. I was bursting with pride as I watched the most highly touted app team since 2020 get torched over and over again by open receivers and bad coverages. Seeing the black and gold anytime I can is what it’s all about. I know the guys tried their best and that’s what being a mountaineer is about.
