The situation from this weekend has been addressed.

Big weekend coming up and Coach Ivey tweeted about hitting the road this week to see more. We've got two visit weekends left before signing day so lots still left to do. Good Luck and Safe Travels to the coaches as they go get us some more Mountaineers!!!

Watching twitter and working with Mike to fill a list of expected visitors for this weekend. Will post it later this week.

And hapapp....check your PM's... ;)

Not on Twitter myself, but from the App State Mania feed, it looks and sounds like the weekend went quite well. Hopefully solidified any who might have been wavering.

I agree with you Gonzo. I don't participate in Twitter so it's to each his/her own with what they do with it. But please keep in mind that any interaction with a potential recruits not only jeopardizes the university but also the recruits themselves. Illegal contact would bar a kid from signing with ASU.

I agree, but I just don't see how they can really police this. You are talking about 100s of thousands of people tweeting recruits. If they don't mess was the Bamas, Ohio State and the rest, don't see why they would mess with App State. 90% of people have no clue it's a violation of NCAA policy to tweet them.

As someone else posted, the NCAA will eventually find a way to punish programs for this and they won't go after the P5 schools to make an example out of someone.

I've said this several times. As 89 rightly pointed out there is no way the NCAA has the manpower to police social media. And many of the P5 fans are 10X worse than what some of the others are doing. BUT the quickest way for the NCAA to send a message to all college sports is to bust a school and get it into the headlines. That alone would take away 3/4 of the manpower issues and would have the schools hitting their fans with multiple warnings to not post to recruits.

There is a second side to this also. The NCAA has to get the message out to the high school/JUCO coaches and the recruits themselves. They spend a lot of time asking for love from the fans of the schools that offer them and, as we saw last year, many make it a competition to see which school gives them the most "love". That also has to stop. It's too hard for a lot of the younger fans and students at these schools who live on social media to not do what the recruits are asking them to.

I follow every offered player that has a twitter account. It's one of the ways that I develop the information that is posted in here. A small part but a part none the less. We have fans who have posted a "Welcome to the Family" to a player when they have committed, a "Happy Birthday" to a commit, have favorited and/or retweeted when a commit has said something good about App. Those are not likely to be what gets one in trouble.

But, using the example of what happened this weekend and also last year, when fans start posting pictures or videos of their program to uncommitted players or to players committed to other schools (what several Sou fans were doing to the recruit in question on Friday and Saturday), getting in b#t@h fights with fans from other schools while leaving the handle of a recruit in the posts so they'll see it, and actively trying to put down another school while talking up your school, is exactly the types of posts that will get a school in trouble. Our fan base has done a much better job this year than last about this type of posting. I've hardly seen a single post doing that until this past weekend. And many have pointed out that Ga Sou fans have been doing this to several of our commits for weeks now. But we need to stay above them and fans from other schools. Let them hang themselves with their own rope. No need to make two nooses on that rope.

Disclaimer: I am in total agreement with all of the warnings that social media contact is a violation, that fans shouldn't do it, etc.

With that said... I really don't think the NCAA is going to do much of anything about it, to a P5 or anyone else. This has been going on for years now. I think if they wanted to really make an example of someone, they would have done so by now. It's a secondary violation that doesn't involve coaches, staff or illegal benefits. As others have stated, it's unenforceable. And frankly, given all the other issues regarding amateurism right now, it would be pretty absurd to make a big issue of Twitter. If anything, the NCAA might realize how anachronistic some of these rules are and see this area as a relatively easy (read: inexpensive) way to modernize.

East-I agree and I believe that the NCAA needs to make changes to these rules to join the new century. My post was made based on the rules as they stand now. And you just never know when they might get a wild hair up their ..... and decided to do something, even if there's not much way to stop it.

I was going to add one more part to my post but decided not to because we're an open board and I didn't want to give anyone any ideas.

As usual, Firemoose makes a lot of sense.

Still, I find myself defending the NCAA on this issue. Even though policing social media is impossible given the NCAA's staffing, the NCAA must discourage the kind of silliness that went on last weekend between one of our nincompoops and some of theirs. Otherwise twitter and instagram and whatever else comes along will become the Wild, Wild West where the nincompoops rule.

The NCAA has asked that fans stay out of the recruiting business. That includes social media. That's good enough for me.

Here is the starting list of the visitors for this weekend. There are player pages with video for all these players on the Main Page but I'll let you know where they are. Of course the commits are where they are supposed to be. Darnell Thompson, Markeyvious Adams, and Devin Papenheim are all listed in the Offers section. Anthony Flory and Dilan Thomas are all listed in the Considering section since they don't currently show offers from App. And since they are committed to other schools as of today Tarrick Thomas, Tyler Norris, and Jonathan Roth, are listed in the Commits Elsewhere section.

I'll be watching for any additions and will update as needed. I've spent almost three hours this morning updating the Main Page. I'll be doing it daily from now until Signing Day.

App Commits:
LB Akeem Davis (6' 2" 200) of Thomasville High School in Thomasville, NC
ATH Khylil Miller (6' 2" 170) of North Davidson High School in Lexington, NC
DT/NG Brody Barrett (6' 4" 312) of JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, CA

App Offers:
DE/DT Darnell Thompson (6′ 5″ 275) of Wakefield High School in Raleigh, NC/Highland Community College in Highland, KS
OL Tarrick Thomas (6′ 4″ 270) of Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, FL (FAU Commit)
OL/DL Jonathan Roth (6′ 5″ 272) of Fulton High School in Knoxville, TN (MTSU Commit)
WR Markeyvious Adams (6’ 4” 185) of Greenwood High School in Greenwood, SC
DE Devin Papenheim (6' 6" 220) of South Sumter High School in Bushnell, FL

Considering App State:
OL Tyler Norris (6′ 5″ 255) of Dobyns Bennett High School in Kingsport, TN (ETSU Commit)
DB Dilan Thomas (6′ 1″ 225) of American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL
LB Anthony Flory (6′ 2″ 225) of American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL

Moose,
Thanks so much for all of your energy and effort in providing updates for all of us. You have definitely made offseason, and especially recruiting season, a lot better ! Here is hoping that we hang on to all of our commits and turn a couple in the last couple of weeks. :D

Let's get the 5 in the offered section and call it a recruiting season. I think I could be happy with that result. :P

Thanks Moose, are you aware of any of our commits taking visits elsewhere this week? I believe Fortune is visiting GS at some point.

Thompson is likely between us and WKU, while Adams will likely come down to us and ODU.

This weekend is huge. Would be nice to land 3 of those 5 this weekend. I have a feeling a couple of those will be signing day decisions we'll have to sweat out.

From what i read Fortune cancelled his visit to GS. I believe he is going to Illinois though.

Edit: Just read that he may visit GS after all. Who knows what will happen...

Last word was that Fortune was visiting Illinois this weekend and GS the last weekend. But that was before this past weekend so we'll see what happens. As for the rest of the commits that came last weekend I haven't seen any mention of other visit yet but am watching. And with Miller, Davis, and Barrett coming this weekend that only leaves one more available weekend for them to visit another school.

Thompson has talked about going to Fresno St the last weekend. Still watching to see if that visit goes forward as he was also visited by Buffalo and UL-L in the past couple of days. And I wouldn't discount Ohio as being in the mix either as he's said some nice things about them and has already taken an official there. He and Adams are really going to come down to the wire and we will also be sweating out whether they pick up a last minute P5 offer like Meadors and Walton did last year. We know what happened there. Got one and lost the other the week before the last weekend. 15 more days is going to seem like 6 months.

Ran into a person with knowledge of Adams....and this kid either has a great sense of who he is and or some great support system. Those closest to him seem to have no idea which way he is leaning. I would say "playing" the family card and quick access to the field would go a long way.

The family part I think we have over ODU if it is us and them....acccess to the field quickly would depend on him and how prepared HE is coming in. After this past lame duck season...I do not see Satt or anyone laying on that red-shirt card if the kid can help us win early!

Recruiting 2015 Thread Stats

On January 21st 2014 we had 643 posts to the recruiting thread.
On January 21st 2015 we have had 739 posts to the recruiting thread, an increase of 14.9%
That would project out to 1452 posts for this year at the current pace.

The total number views in 2014 was 122,847, a rounded 15% increase would equal 18,427. Which would project out to 141,274 views.

While it is hard to know exactly how many views we had by signing day it sure would reflect well on the interest side if we could reach that 15% increase on views. I understand it means nothing except that interest might lead to increase YOSEF, increase Season Tickets, and better all-round support. I understand that MOST people who would support YOSEF and buy tickets are NOT YOSEF's Cabin members, viewers or posters. But it is just interesting to consider on a beautiful January day when I am already missing football season.
