Our seats were home side about the field house 35 yard line. Two plays happened right in front of me- the PIC which was awful and right to the defender. What I could not see was what Brice either saw or didn't see. I'm thinking he just didn't see that dude. The other play was the kick. It didn't even sound good and it dropped halfway in the end zone. Not even close.

Re: UNC game discussion
I’m sure the LB was dropping back just as he threw so he didn’t see him.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 8:45 pmOur seats were home side about the field house 35 yard line. The kick looked like he got under it too much.

Re: UNC game discussion
So, after two days, i went back and watched the highlights and revisited the box score.
There is no excuse for our defense to give up 56 points (the onside kick was separate from that). But, we usually make adjustments at halftime and if you look at a couple of strings of events:
First, with roughly four minutes remaining in the first half, after UNC had tied the game:
1. We pick up a first down
2. Peoples rushes for six yards to our 42 to set up 2nd and 4. However, on the backside of the play, we commit a bonehead chop block that negates the play and turns it into 1st and 25.
Had, the penalty not occurred, we could have burned more clock and potentially scored vs. giving up a TD in the final seconds and another to open the 2nd half.
Could've, would've, should've but that was a momentum killing penalty that had no impact on the called play.
Moving ahead, after they went up 35-21, our defense actually had a decent run that allowed the comeback:
1. On our first possession, after Brice was sacked on 4th and 7 and we turned the ball over on downs.... we gave up 34 yards on 8 plays and held them to a field goal.
2. Then, we throw the INT two plays later and our defense steps up deep on our end, forces a fumble that they recover and limits them to a quick FG.
3. We finally score a TD on our third series of the second half, then on the Tarheel's next play, we force and recover a fumble.
We score again in three plays to pull within 7
4. No excuses, we give up the big run to Hood on a simple off tackle play when our LB/DB's don't fill the cap. Our worst play of the second half, period.. They punch it in two plays later.
5. Regardless, we score again and then our defense forces a punt after giving up a pair of first downs.
Peoples scores the tying TD on our next possession
6. We give up some yardage on their next possession, thanks to a long Maye run. But, we have them at 3rd and 9 from the 42. At that point, it is either scheme or missed assignment. We are playing man coverage against their 3 receivers in the pattern. We rush ALL 8 of our remaining defenders. So, when they slip the back out of the backfield, we have no one to defend him and they ran a shallow crossing pattern away from where the back releases. Our DB, slips while trying to get over to cover 2 men at once and they score. Either they called/read the perfect play against our blitz, and/or we flat our missed an assignment. (and one of our blitzers, should have abandoned the blitz and dropped into coverage)
We score again and miss the two-point connection.
Again, we give up 28 points against our defense in the second half, which is not acceptable and not going to win you ballgames. However, in hindsight, our defense kept us in the game when the offense sputtered and allowed the comeback to happen.
Probably more analysis then you want,

UNC football player Don Chapman arrested
Interesting he carried the flag out of the tunnel against FAMU.

Definitely not more than I cared for, this was perfect. Thank you. Perhaps you could start a thread after each game with your takeaways….seriously. I liked it, no BS, just insight.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:40 pmSo, after two days, i went back and watched the highlights and revisited the box score.

Re: UNC game discussion
I personally thought the QB keeper that went for naught that created the 51 yard FG attempt was the turning point and let them back in. I think it was 3rd and nine. Brice is the slowest of our runners and imo that was a terrible call.

I agree. Hindsight being 20/20, thought this was the first time to run the screen pass...since we really never run screens
