He is 16-21 at Georgia State and 17-26 overall, including his SC interim HC results. That 2-10 year in 2018 is hurting him badly. He has a 7-5 year and then instead of improvement they fall back big time. He then goes 7-6 last year. I would imagine he would need two bad years in a row to be in trouble there but at this point I would imagine that they are looking for some progress and not be happy with another 6-7 win type season.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 1:22 pmI mean let's be honest: There was probably not another FBS AD in the country who would have seriously pursued Elliott for a HC job at the time Cobb hired him at GSU.Boone Goon wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 11:51 amRemember Elliott was the interim HC for USC when Spurrier abruptly resigned mid-season. Unfortunately for Elliott the rest of the season went poorly, including a loss to the Citadel (if my memory is correct). That sealed his fortunes in Columbia. I don't see a scenario where he would ever be offered the USC position. It's more likely he is able to do well enough at Ga State to get an offer at another mid-major and then continue a slow climb to a P5 job. Other option would be he gets fired from GaState and becomes an assistant at App.
That said, his results so far have been... not that bad.

Jim Garner was a good AD for sure. Just a shame he was followed by someone so inept.AppYosef! wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 1:40 pmI would like to add my 2 cents and give credit to the late Jim Garner who, as AD at A.S.U., brought Coach Jerry Moore to Boone after Sparky Woods left to take the reigns at South Carolina.
Coach Moore is one of the all-time greats but to be honest our teams were starting to look a little stagnant until he had the sense to change the offense. That led to our 3 straight National Championships and the huge win over Michigan.
Thanks to Jim Garner's hiring of Coach Moore Mountaineer fans now attend every game with the knowledge that our team will win and win BIG. I imagine very few A.S.U. fans were surprised as they left the game in Chapel Hill last year celebrating the win. We went there expecting the win...except we expected to win by a larger margin. That winning attitude is now second nature to Mountaineer fans.
THANKS JIM GARNER!!
Very smart to change the offense. We were 10-4, 9-4, 8-4, 7-4, and then he changes offense and we go 6-5. After Laney resigned I think Ken was looking to make changes because he joked that Jerry would need to win the title to save his job, basically meaning another year without playoffs and he was gone, and we won the title that year.

Yes, it took a season or so for everything to come together and the new offense to show results....but when it did...WOW!AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 2:00 pmJim Garner was a good AD for sure. Re: Doug Gillin
This schedule he was able to pull out should tell you all you need to know about Gillin. The early schedule was Charlotte at BOA, Campbell and Gardner Webb at home. When phase 2 got extended, it actually saved us from this schedule but made Gillin and company scramble even more.
What Gillin was able to do with his connections/reputation isn't far from a miracle.

And there were allegedly some good matchups being discussed that were in the works but didn't pan out.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 1:03 pmThis schedule he was able to pull out should tell you all you need to know about Gillin. Re: Doug Gillin
I believe I heard some schools out west as rumored possibilities but I'm glad we did not play them in this current climate. Without the virus I would 100% have loved those but it is probably better we got close games. I heard BYU and Nebraska but who knows if it was really a chance. I like our odds better to actually play with local teams rather than teams way out there.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 2:10 pmAnd there were allegedly some good matchups being discussed that were in the works but didn't pan out.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 1:03 pmThis schedule he was able to pull out should tell you all you need to know about Gillin. Absolutely shameful if it happens....
I’ll say it again, professors do your damn job without bitching every 2 seconds. Let DG and athletics do their job.

I get their anger. But it's misplaced. It's our state government both Republican and Democrat that has neglected salaries and benefits at all levels of teaching.

Usually, I let the like button speak for itself, but when we agree, it must be noted.
We also must be correct.

"Some people call me hillbilly. Some people call me mountain man. You can call me Appalachian. Appalachian's what I am."-- Del McCoury Band
