We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. Re: Athlon Predictions
Theoretically if we were in a regional conference that required almost no air travel for teams, on average how much does that save the athletic department? Do we fly teams to Marshall? The MAC seems pretty regional. Looks like the Belt and the AAC in particular are hurting each other. Both have schools too spread out.

Re: Athlon Predictions
I think that there is a mileage threshold that determines the need to drive or fly. I have seen some dated rules that the limit to fly is 450 miles. All SBC East schools are within that range so we take busses. Troy is 492 miles so we may bus that depending on the cost and logistics.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 7:50 amTheoretically if we were in a regional conference that required almost no air travel for teams, on average how much does that save the athletic department? #1 criteria for flying vs. the bus:
- How many opportunities will we have to stop at a Buc-ee’s on the way there & back?

Re: Athlon Predictions
I think that the only two that are on the way to a location is the one in Florence (Coastal) and Auburn, Al. (Troy).

Re: Athlon Predictions
Oh nice. I actually stopped at one in Leeds, Al. last year on my way back from Monroe. I didn’t count that one because most folks wouldn’t drive it. There is also one off of I-40 west of Knoxville, Tn. if you were driving to Arkansas St.

Re: Athlon Predictions
We stopped by the Auburn location traveling back to ATL airport the day after SBC championship game. It is a very large convenience store. It was nice, however, I would not drive out of my way to stop at oneAppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 5:54 amOh nice. I actually stopped at one in Leeds, Al. last year on my way back from Monroe. I won’t either. I haven’t seen one that wasn’t right off the interstate. The one in Leeds was actually one of the more difficult ones to navigate in and out.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 7:16 amWe stopped by the Auburn location traveling back to ATL airport the day after SBC championship game. You may be looking forward to an Eastern based G5 conference that includes Charlotte, ECU, JMU, ODU, Georgia Southern, Coastal, etc.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 6:00 pmThe notion that we are going to move up to any existing P whatever is just delusional. Probably Memphis as well?
That would be insanity considering if App turned it down, Charlotte probably gets the call. Or they could go all in and add App, Charlotte, and ECU to backfill the Carolinas and bring in Memphis. Would be complete idiocy to turn that down.
If it is down to perhaps WF, GT, BC, SMU, Duke, Miami, a football-less ND, Syracuse, Cal, and Stanford, than they will just add a few high-brow schools like Georgetown, Rice, and Tulane and rebrand themselves a (mostly) Southern Ivy League. William & Mary or Richmond have a better chance getting into that league than App.
Under your scenario, App never gets a call because the ACC has gone basketball. I don't think the ACC would do this though and I could easily see a reformation of sorts to something akin to what the SoCon did, albeit at a higher level. Time will tell.
I wouldn't be opposed to that.

Re: Athlon Predictions
That could very well happen. But it isn’t, in any way, going to be confused with or compared to the ACC. Which is what your point is.ericsaid wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 6:13 pmYou may be looking forward to an Eastern based G5 conference that includes Charlotte, ECU, JMU, ODU, Georgia Southern, Coastal, etc.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 6:00 pmThe notion that we are going to move up to any existing P whatever is just delusional. The prompt was to say that absent Clemson, FSU, Notre Dame, and I believe UNC, would you still join the ACC?AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 7:28 pmThat could very well happen. The answer to that very specific and direct question was a resounding “yes”. The feasibility of that happening is 0.000000001%. I can admit that but this is the most unlikely of unlikely hypotheticals. Call it a thought experiment.
So yes, you’re right. I’m not sure if that’s what you’re wanting to hear.

Re: Athlon Predictions
Until the city of Boone either moves back to a more populated area that also includes a larger television market there is no way App State gets invited to or included in a major conference. Did the ACC want Pitt and BC for the overall athletic excellence they have had? It was for markets.
