Parking

Unread post by appgrad2010 » Sat Sep 17, 2016 6:38 pm

Ok, as athletic department staff has changed greatly over the past year who needs to be contacted regarding game day parking? Situation has happened for a second time where someone with a Yosef club pass has gone to library deck 2 hours before game time and no spots are left. Do they not make sure problems like this don't happen?

Library Deck is festival parking; no numbered spaces. That likely means that there are more Library Deck passes than there are spaces in the Library Deck. That usually would not be a problem, but with a record crowd, I'm surprised it didn't happen a lot today.

I know this. I still don't find it appropriate for an individual to give to the Yosef club and be subject to having to park all the way at legends. This happened once last season as well.

FWIW, I would head over to River Street Parking Deck. I know a few people who have passes there who don't use them.

Fortunately I haven't run into this yet but last week for ODU, I did have to go further up in there than usual to find a space and was aggravated to see people taking up spaces to tailgate or just hang out in. There should be no tailgating allowed in the decks unless you can do it literally off your tailgate and not take up more than your one space.

Thanks T-Dog! Not sure who the immediate contact is to get parking switched anymore with all the staff changes in athletic department? AppinAtl-that's the problem-you are not supposed to take up more than 1 space in the library deck or rivers to use for tailgating. I guess it is not being enforced. I bleed black and gold but will gladly run over a tailgate if they feel they are wanting to take up another parking spot.

People tend to take up the space that's available. Most Saturdays, the Library deck is nowhere near full. I've never seen anyone not move out of the way if needed. Running over someone's tailgate would probably cause a lot more problems than just asking them to move.

Haha, I am saying after one asks people to move and they don't.

I should be clear: I am in the River St Deck. I made those observations last week. I got there about 8:20 this week so the deck was nowhere near full an I was able to find a spot right away so I didn't see any abuses.

It was crowded...and my complaint is that they are not enforcing the actual time when decks open. I know for a fact, one car parked overnight on top of library deck...complete bs and if the time is not enforced then I will park my truck up there for the next home game...tonight. They need to do a car count and after X amount of cars go in, they don't let anyone else up until the guys manning the gate run and do a visual check. My folks were in the deck but no other spots were open. I had to get in, have them get out and luckily I found a handicapped spot on the third level. Others had to back down and find a place to reverse and then drive out. The library will eventually need to be numbered I'm afraid. A reminder to those in charge who might read this site...we come for football but you guys need to enforce rules so that tempers don't flare and we enjoy the entire game day experience.

As I recall, there was a communication sent out a few years ago emphasizing that parking passes entitled you to exactly *one* space in the deck total - not one for parking and another for tailgating. I didn't have an issue getting a space Saturday, getting to Rivers St about 2 hours before kickoff, but a number of folks were tailgating in empty spaces.

I saw this throughout the Rivers St. deck this weekend, but people moved their tables/coolers/grills whenever someone politely asked them to do so.

All concerns regarding parking should be addressed to Alan Daniel - danielap@appstate.edu or 828-262-8075.

That said, it's important to remember that Rivers Street and Liberry decks are festival parking which doesn't, technically, guarantee a spot.

Personally, it would be my preference to cap the number of $500 donors allowed in the Rivers Street deck to the number of spaces available with any "excess" $500 donors being allocated to Liberry based on Yosef points within the $500 giving level. Likewise, Liberry would take the excess $500 donors and as many $250 donors as it can hold with any excess $250 donors being parked somewhere else based on Yosef points.

I'm generally a free market sort. If we've got empty reserved spots going unclaimed, then "bump up" your top $500 donors to numbered parking. Hopefully, they'll like it enough to want to increase their giving if the market requires all numbered parking to be above the $500 level. Likewise, if we cannot accommodate numbered parking because the demand is too high, then make Rivers Street or Liberry decks numbered to handle the higher donation levels.

As of October 1, there will be no one left as a Yosef employee who was there when I first started volunteering with Yosef. Times are changing ... I think mostly for the better ... mostly. Still, sometimes I miss Mayberry.

That may be true, but I'm thinking if you are in a group of cars that go all the way up looking for a space only to find there are none, having to get turned around and ask someone further down to move is just a major pain.

Agreed. It would be much simpler if everyone showed some consideration for others and stayed out of the empty spaces. You get ONE space. There's usually 3-4 cops or ROTC standing around the entrance to the gate. One of those should patrol the deck to make sure everyone is following the one spot rule.

Very valid point and the process of enforcing this within the festival parking decks could be better managed so it does not come down to asking for someone to clear out of a spot.

I give more but request library because my tailgate group is there and we are accommodating to those coming in later...that being said, I have seen more than one car use less than stellar attitude when "demanding" we move away from "their spot" as they try to navigate around cars and tents. Kindness and easy going outlook goes a long way imop.

I spoke with Allen prior to the season concerning Liberry parking. Anyone who donates at $250 level gets Liberry $500 gets Rivers St. This information is on the Yosef website.........somewhere I'm told. We've been at the $500 level but had to do $250 due to budget this year. I requested rivers St but when the packet arrives I have Library. Called to change but can't due to donation level. But $500 Rivers St can request Library and switch. So an already oversold Library deck now has additional competition for spaces. Usually may not be an issue. After a 6AM departure from home we arrive 9:45 to a full deck. Our friends at Rivers st advise spaces are available. We park up behind Legends. Now it was a very nice walk across a campus that I'm very fond of but have you ever tried to explain to you wife why Miami fans are in the deck taking up space and we had to park at Daniel Boone? I called Allen and said "its for you, the Missus is on line one" (JK)

Good ideas from Daphne
