This is not meant to be negative (here comes the but

) someone please explain to me our first down play calling. I know late yesterday it was probably about just trying not to make mistakes or maybe working on executing our bread and butter against good competition but the predictable play calling on first down is a pattern.

My best guesx is that our coaches have zero faith in our passing game. Only way i know to explain the predictable runs up the middle. We have seen Satterfield open the playbook when we have the horses, so i assume he must know more than us and realize that we need to be run first, secon and third. Maybe if the run is established, the oppenent brings some defenders to stack the box and we can get some easy passes to work. But thats just my best guess.

I saw it differently. Passing on first down with the incompletions put us behind the chains on second down. We are a running team and we need to run to set up play action.

Everyone always complains about the runs up the middle. Its not sexy, but we've busted some pretty long plays running it up the middle if you pay any attention. Nobody complains when we do.

I have no problem with the first down play calling. We seemed to be able to move the ball somewhat consistently on the ground yesterday.
It's when we tried to throw the ball that things went wrong. Judging the passing game against primarily P5 competition is not entirely fair at this point in the season though. I fully expect Lamb and crew to improve this week and into sunbelt play.
